My favorite Touhou song and the theme of my favorite Touhou character. I’ve been requesting this song in the comments of almost every Touhou cover you’ve done since then. I’ve also asked for this song in several song ballots. I may have not have been as persistent as other comment requesters but I was willing to play the long game. I graduated high school and then went to college. I then dropped out of college because it was too hard for me. Friends who I thought I was close with drifted away from me. I was fired from several jobs due to my own stress and pressure. I had to make it through a global pandemic. But, I did not want to give up hope. I was able to move out of my parents place and into my own apartment. I met new friends who I am extremely close with. I found a job that I both enjoy, and where I am appreciated. My hope for a better future paid off. And now my hope of you covering this song paid off too. Thank you Jonny. That being said… OH MY GOD YOU KILLED IT! Welp, it's now official. This has been my best year of being a Gametal fan so far. Seriously, almost every single song had an impact on my year in one way or another. It's Pizza Time was an incredible opening to the whole thing, and gave me quite the memorable drive about a month ago. Morpho Knight, Battle Against Smithy, and Battle of Little Slugger were great ways to finish off a long session of class work. Never Let Up, Deathmatch, Showtime, and the Kirby 64 boss theme were really dang good workout songs. The Place 1997, Kraid's Lair, Stardust Speedway, Ghost Trick, Dingodile, Bombs Away, and Panic Puppet were great for focusing on work as a whole. Angry Birds Transformers and Learn with Pokemon: Typing Adventure were both great joke games with a surprisingly good soundtrack. Phantom R's Theme alone inspired me to try Rhythm Thief, and now its soundtrack was in my top 3 for the entire year. Cortez Battle, Captain Falcon, Prince Mush, and My Innermost Apocalypse were also great for motivating me to finish some of my harder class assignments. Someday gave me something to look forward to on the drive home from a hard day of work. Even Not Alone, which came out less than a month ago, helped me SO much in motivating me to get my finals for the semester over with. And just when I thought it couldn't get any better... on the same year I became a hardcore Touhou fan, you cover not only my favorite final boss theme from the series, but one of my favorite songs of the entire year... Consistently, throughout this entire year, I've been able to come back here and find something new to jam out to while getting through day to day life. But now that it's finally here, HOLY SHIT THIS IS SO GOOD AGGGGHHH The guitar is incredible, the editing is incredible, I love that part with Zelda on the keyboard, but also that one part where the music stops and it coincides with Jonny stopping for a second on the drums??? Knocked it out of the park for this one as usual! Pleasure bringing you footage as always! ...oh yeah, it's been like, what, 4 years since the last Touhou cover? Almost 5? Yeah, comment readers, still the same person as in most Touhou covers in terms of footage. Y'know, the person previously with a username containing a certain Sonic character and Mario character. I grew out of that name, if my working-around-saying-it is any indication. Still same old me, though! 2:12 oh no you left a glimpse of me dying to a really easy attack how will my reputation recover from this /j Yeah, I was originally going to get a perfect run of this stage (no deaths, no bombs, no border breaks), but deaths late into the fight are pretty demotivating, especially considering the stage itself has one difficult part. As a result I just left the upload unlisted. 3 Deaths isn't bad anyway. I haven't uploaded on my channel in a while, but cheers to those checking me out regardless. By the time I sent this footage, I was both demotivated and wanting to play the Mega Man Zero games for the first time, so I dedicated my time to that instead. Fun games! Great music too, which I wasted no time listening to the GaMetal covers of.

And 4 years since you covered Sleeping terror, your last Touhou song in a while... When I saw Yukari's portrait in your last cover I cannot explain the amount of hype I had. And of course you both knocked it out and blew it out of the park~! Not even I was expecting the extended version! I don't mind having to wait another 4-5 years for another cover, all I request is doing a cover of Memento of All Organisms - Memory of Fossil Energy, one of my personal favorite songs now and let's be honest, Abandoned hell of blood pools would make such a great background~
I know you don't have a lot of context for Touhou, but I can't describe how much of a love letter to the series this cover feels like. Like, I barely see the Magical Astronomy arrange get acknowledged, much less in a cover of this quality. And you absolutely nailed that chorus. I was so happily surprised to see this pop up on my home page, and even more surprised that it was the Magical Astronomy version. I love the album version of Necrofantasia so much and you really brought out every bit of it so well here. It's been a great year to be a GaMetal fan already but getting a Touhou cover this good really makes it for me. The amount of care and affection that goes into making something a real GaMetal cover instead of just a typical metal cover of a song never goes unnoticed. It's been 8 years since a Touhou cover •Yakumo literally means "8 cloud" •It can also mean "Countless cloud" and if you turn 8 sideways it becomes infinite •Yukari is an 8th stage boss •There is a long gap between touhou covers. Yukari is known as the "Gap youkai". The stars have aligned.
The “Yakumo” also comes from Yakumo Koizumi. Koizumi, born Lafcadio Hearn (name inspiration of Maribel Hearn), was a Greek journalist who went to Japan right before its industrial revolution and documented a lot of it. Older people loved his works because they preserved the Japan they grew up with when the industrialization changed it. In the same way, Yakumo Yukari preserved the youkai of Japan by making the Great Hakurei Barrier. It all comes around.

After about a year of not seeing a GaMetal remix that I've really anticipated, and getting super into Touhou this year, finding out this song was an option in the latest request battle and then watching it win by only a single vote was absolutely cathartic. Making it based on the Magical Astronomy version is a super cool touch too! Definitely a great way to end the year even if this isn't the proper year-end finale. Since you mentioned in the Discord once you like to look for what people like in a song while reading comment requests, I'd like to highlight what I like about U.N. Owen was Her? for when you can't graze that one any longer. I really like how intense that song is, similar to this one, making for an incredible contrast to the rest of EoSD's more elegant OST and really selling the feeling of a true final boss confrontation. I feel like a lot of remixes I've heard of it so far don't really capture how loud and bombastic the second main melody is compared to the more playful instrumentation the rest of the song uses. Although, if Idolatrize World lost by only a single vote, I feel like it should be entrusted some kind of priority whenever we return to Gensokyo again.

Owen was Her But in terms of situation and the way both songs are used, Necrofantasia is really similar to the UNDERTALE version of MEGALOVANIA Both songs Play while fighting the hardest enemy of the game, enemy wich means to unlock their battle you need to follow certain steps. Also, both Yukari and Sans have a lot in common Both MEGALOVANIA and Necrofantasia are also re used a lot by their composers, this is specially rare for ZUN since he prefers to compose new music instead of arranging old ones, that's why Reimu and Marisa have 6 and 8 theme songs respectively. And also both are remixes of previous songs that surpassed the original in popularity, MEGALOVANIA is a remix of a song of the same name from an Earthbound rom hack, and Necrofantasia is a remix of Necro Fantasy

Yeah, comment readers, still the same person as in most Touhou covers in terms of footage. Y'know, the person previously with a username containing a certain Sonic character and Mario character. I grew out of that name, if my working-around-saying-it is any indication. Still same old me, though!

Yeah, I was originally going to get a perfect run of this stage (no deaths, no bombs, no border breaks), but deaths late into the fight are pretty demotivating, especially considering the stage itself has one difficult part. As a result I just left the upload unlisted. 3 Deaths isn't bad anyway. I haven't uploaded on my channel in a while, but cheers to those checking me out regardless.
By the time I sent this footage, I was both demotivated and wanting to play the Mega Man Zero games for the first time, so I dedicated my time to that instead. Fun games! Great music too, which I wasted no time listening to the GaMetal covers of.
As someone who fell hopelessly down the Touhou rabbit hole due to the music this kicks so much ass, hope to hear more covers in the future!

I know you don't have a lot of context for Touhou, but I can't describe how much of a love letter to the series this cover feels like. Like, I barely see the Magical Astronomy arrange get acknowledged, much less in a cover of this quality. And you absolutely nailed that chorus. I can tell how much effort you put into this and it *shows* and I just want to thank you so much for it. This is one of your best covers to date, easily, and it's funny because this isn't even one of my favorite songs from the series per se, it just strikes that much of a chord with me. Thank you.

I was so happily surprised to see this pop up on my home page, and even more surprised that it was the Magical Astronomy version. I love the album version of Necrofantasia so much and you really brought out every bit of it so well here. It's been a great year to be a GaMetal fan already but getting a Touhou cover this good really makes it for me. You just keep getting better and better with time and after listening for about a decade I think this'll be one of my long-time favorites. The amount of care and affection that goes into making something a real GaMetal cover instead of just a typical metal cover of a song never goes unnoticed. This goes way above and beyond the prompt of just covering Necrofantasia and I legitimately can't express how awesome that is. Here's hoping we can see more Touhou tiebreakers in the future!

•There is a long gap between touhou covers. Yukari is known as the "Gap youkai".

The “Yakumo” also comes from Yakumo Koizumi. Koizumi, born Lafcadio Hearn (name inspiration of Maribel Hearn), was a Greek journalist who went to Japan right before its industrial revolution and documented a lot of it. Older people loved his works because they preserved the Japan they grew up with when the industrialization changed it. In the same way, Yakumo Yukari preserved the youkai of Japan by making the Great Hakurei Barrier. It all comes around.

After about a year of not seeing a GaMetal remix that I've really anticipated, and getting super into Touhou this year, finding out this song was an option in the latest request battle and then watching it win by only a single vote was absolutely cathartic. Making it based on the Magical Astronomy version is a super cool touch too! Definitely a great way to end the year even if this isn't the proper year-end finale.
Since you mentioned in the Discord once you like to look for what people like in a song while reading comment requests, I'd like to highlight what I like about U.N. Owen was Her? for when you can't graze that one any longer. I really like how intense that song is, similar to this one, making for an incredible contrast to the rest of EoSD's more elegant OST and really selling the feeling of a true final boss confrontation. I feel like a lot of remixes I've heard of it so far don't really capture how loud and bombastic the second main melody is compared to the more playful instrumentation the rest of the song uses.
Although, if Idolatrize World lost by only a single vote, I feel like it should be entrusted some kind of priority whenever we return to Gensokyo again.

Both songs Play while fighting the hardest enemy of the game, enemy wich means to unlock their battle you need to follow certain steps.
Also, both Yukari and Sans have a lot in common
Both MEGALOVANIA and Necrofantasia are also re used a lot by their composers, this is specially rare for ZUN since he prefers to compose new music instead of arranging old ones, that's why Reimu and Marisa have 6 and 8 theme songs respectively.
And also both are remixes of previous songs that surpassed the original in popularity, MEGALOVANIA is a remix of a song of the same name from an Earthbound rom hack, and Necrofantasia is a remix of Necro Fantasy
