    Simple as fudge, which is what we need. I usually summary wakeup scenario in 3 categories, either you:
    Play Safe - Block or DelayTech
    Yolo - Press a button or EX Reversal
    Run! - Backdash, Neutral or Back Jump

      I'd love to make more tutorials but they take up more time and they aren't even that popular so it's hard to financially justify making them. I set a couple of goals on patreon (www.patreon.com/mdz_jimmy) for this type of content so I can just make content without having to think about taking a financial hit. The next tutorial will definitely be a full explanation for every normal move of ryu.

    Is the neutral jump (offense) equivalent to shimmy ?
    Beating late throw tech, but vulnerable to invisible reversals ?
    Maybe more vulnerable to DP, so higher risk, but higher reward with a full jump in combo ?

    • @mdz_jimmy
      @mdz_jimmy  6 років тому +2

      yes you can do a well timed neutral jump to beat late crouch tech, it's essentially another form of a "shimmy", nobody calls it a shimmy though.

    Miss these tutorial vids from you, Jimmy.
    Would love to see a breakdown on how you approach fireball timings and fb risk/reward based on spacing, meter, and opponent observations!
    I'm pretty scrub tier, but I feel like my fireballs get blown up way more in sfv than they did in sf4.

    • @mdz_jimmy
      @mdz_jimmy  3 роки тому +1

      Fireballs are difficult to use in SFV because there are a lot more anti fireball tools in SFV compared to SFIV. Tutorials will become more frequent again once I hire an editor for the channel. At the moment it's kinda tough editing a new video everyday the way I do, especially now that I'm a dad I simply don't have a lot of time.

    Command grabs eat me alive tho. I don't know how to process that extra layer. Any advice?

    • @mdz_jimmy
      @mdz_jimmy  6 років тому +7

      command grab characters are indeed tricky to deal with and they do change the wakeup game a lot. it's all about trying to find a pattern and showing your opponent that you're willing to just block and not freak out on wakeup. on high level, players with command grabs win without using command grabs a lot, it's the fear of the command grab and the resulting panic reactions that lead to big damage for them.
      I should do a tutorial on that topic.

    How does this change against characters with a command grab?

    • @mdz_jimmy
      @mdz_jimmy  6 років тому

      the dynamic is somewhat different because command grab characters never have a problem of opening up someone. the idea is to mix up the timing on when to defend against command grabs and to make sure you don't panic. this is particularly true on high level where players mostly win without ever using command grab but using the fear of it to land regular attacks on wakeup.
      I'll cover this in a future tutorial for sure.

      similar but has a higher risk of being punished on high level. on the other hand it does punish some shimmy attempts very nicely so it's not easy to say which option is better.
      I initially wanted to put neutral jump as the option to showcase but ultimately decided to put backdash in it as it is safer and is actually intended to be used like that.

    That statement of react-able grabs being bad is a totally incorrect statement.
    Try playing a game with a react-able throw; I guarantee you are still not going to tech them most of the time. Skullgirls has it like that with throw conversions, even, and people get chucked ten ways from Sunday.
    Anyways, excellent video, and this was extraordinarily helpful.

    • @mdz_jimmy
      @mdz_jimmy  3 роки тому

      I don't play Skullgirls so please correct me if I'm wrong here but a quick google search tells me Skullgirls has a 13F tech window on throws and that is 100% outside of human reaction speed. Top players in SFV need around 16-17 frames to react to an expected clear visual cue.
