I'm a small scale no-till farmer near Portland Oregon. Just had our NRCS rep out this summer. We are going to be starting our projects in 2025! Thanks for the good content!
@mpitaji to be honest it's a lot of hard work. There are lots of "free" resources out there but it's time and work. I tried doing it alone but was burning out. Now I have 2 business partners and I couldn't do it without them.
As an aspiring farmer, I have watched hundreds of videos from different channels on these topics. Your channel has been one of the most informative and helpful! I truly appreciate you putting all your wisdom out there for us to understand how we also can succeed!
I'm from VA, Chesterfield County as a child, and Pittsylvania county as an adult. In 2018, I moved to Tennessee, and I don't regret it for a minute. There are no state taxes and no stupid laws. Stay out of the major cities by at least an hour, and land is pretty reasonable.
@ absolutely! I moved here from Vermont. Buying a home in Vermont would have never been feasible for me on a Chefs salary. Land and homes are over priced and taxes are some of the highest in the country. Thanks for tagging along 🙏
They do have a list online on the USDA, NRCS, EQUIP site of what you could potentially get by state and by county. Mine was 1400 pages long. Definitely look into everything thats out there.
Great video. We just purchased 76 acres of conserved farmland under the Farmland Preservation Program in Connecticut. Connecticut Farmland Trust has told us to apply for these grants. Your video was very helpful in explaining the process.
Thank you 🙏 that’s awesome! Love the idea of farm land trust programs! I would love to find access to an actual farm of my own someday! I’m glad you found the content helpful! Wishing you the best with your new farmland 👊

@ I had time to think about your video. I believe you owe your viewers another video dealing with real life. It’s great what you have done. The truth is that everybody cannot rely on grants. The black farmers were just awarded a grant because they were denied grants during the depression. I went to a school on a grant ( did not finish). The grant told me what major I had to pick and did not pay for housing, food, clothes or books and school essentials. I did not take out any loans and decided to work . I don’t regret any choices. The reality is that grants or loan is not a entitlement. With all the hard work you have put in. We both know that nobody gets it right the first time!!!

Do you have mosquito problems? If so, dragonfly ponds are easy solutions and might work with some grants you may be eligible for. They can be as small as a bathtub and would fit in your pollinator area. I have no skeeters because I have dragonflies.

We're in the process of turning our suburban backyard into a food forest to feed our family and friends. No more watering lawns. We also have a small-scale rainwater catchment system. Thank you for taking the time to produce and share this video and valuable information.
Thank you so much for this video!! It was very helpful and informative. I'm acquirring 14 acres in New Jersey for 2025 and looking for grants to help me get things rolling. Thank you!
I don’t think so! But you will need to pay taxes on the money if you don’t have a business to expense it through. But these are all good questions to ask them. Don’t take my word for it.
@chefsharvestfarm in your personal opinion, would you say that the gov keeps more of an eye on your farm now that you've received these grants? Asking because I'm looking at agri zoned land in Hawai'i and intend to have my privacy.
Great video and smart way of using credit cards. That was something my parents drilled into me, if you have the $ to buy something, instead buy it through a credit card that has interest free periods and pay it off during that interest free period. An off topic question, the video of your crops is amazing! They are green and lush. I have a small garden, but find caterpillars, slugs, snails and other pests eat holes in the leaves. I've tried to avoid pesticides, but I'm guessing I'll have to venture down that road. What do you do to combat pests?

What is that handheld thing you used to cut the lettuce with? Thanks.

Impressive organic farm ! Hard work pays off, especially if you know to access government loans for the small farmers. Looks like you have some “ herb “ growing as well ? Nice job 👍🏼
@@moscaman559 thank you 🙏
Nice, thanks for sharing this information, I learned something and will follow up. 😄
Awesome! Thanks for watching 👊
I'm here, checking in.
Hey pal! Thanks for saying hi 👋 it means a lot 🙏
We're in the process of turning our suburban backyard into a food forest to feed our family and friends. No more watering lawns. We also have a small-scale rainwater catchment system. Thank you for taking the time to produce and share this video and valuable information.
My goal is to have no lawn to mow 🙌 I hate mowing the lawn 🤣
Thank you for this info! So hard to find.
@@immortalgenetics you’re welcome 👊
Great overview! Nice looking operation
@@Rppbiz thanks pal! I appreciate it 🙏

Worth the $120 bucks for sure 👍
Great Work buddy, keep going :) greeting from germany :)
Thanks pal 🙏
Thank you so much for this video!! It was very helpful and informative. I'm acquirring 14 acres in New Jersey for 2025 and looking for grants to help me get things rolling. Thank you!
Sweet dude! Wishing you the best! I was born in Jersey, Morristown 👊
Well done
@@Sabobobabo77 thanks pal 🙏
does it matter that the grant applicant is or is not engaged in a commercial enterprise?
I don’t think so! But you will need to pay taxes on the money if you don’t have a business to expense it through. But these are all good questions to ask them. Don’t take my word for it.
So you can get grants even though you're an LLC rather than a non-profit? That's good to know. This is a great informative video.
Yes, you don’t have to have a business.
Good job
Thanks pal 🙏
Excellent video, bro
Thank you 🙏
@chefsharvestfarm in your personal opinion, would you say that the gov keeps more of an eye on your farm now that you've received these grants? Asking because I'm looking at agri zoned land in Hawai'i and intend to have my privacy.
Very nice outdoor sog
Thank you 🙏
Great video and smart way of using credit cards.
Thank you 🙏 here is a pest control video ua-cam.com/video/sPyoUcOx24c/v-deo.htmlsi=C8yuqGZZ5BWY519C one thing I don’t mention in the video is Sluggo for slugs and a few other pests. amzn.to/3PmtXcz

Thanks for the info Bro

Great job. What kind of rope are you using to criss cross (to hold down) the poly?
Thank you 🙏 it’s just a polyester rope I believe. It comes with the kit.
You are my Hero!!!
Thanks pal 👊
Feed chickens greens and the eggs are orange and excellent.
@@angelofamillionyears4599 have you ever watched “chef’s table” on Netflix? There’s an episode with Dan Barber where they prove that you are what you eat, eats… and they feed the chickens red chili paste. And their eggs come out red! Pretty cool! Thanks for dropping a comment 👊
👍👍Another great video Chef Mikey. I'm just a home gardener with the passion and give away extra produce. I've thought about market farming but would need extra space and lots of work so it may not be practical for an ole retired fart. 🤣
Keep the videos coming as they are great! 😊
Thanks Mike 🙏 I appreciate you following along and always dropping comments! It goes a long way 👊
@@chefsharvestfarm You bet. Btw, I'm not quite "no-till"" but understand and appreciate the soil food web and the destruction deep tilling can do. So I do low or shallow tilling 1-2". I have a Troybilt tiller that I use like a tilther (using what I have rather than spending another $675!). 😊
What do you do to keep wild animals out of your garden?
Electric fence
Chef- Get in Food City... Buy all day here in JC. Need a local purveyor for salads stuff , now a days. been watching ur channel, little jelly.
Thanks pal 🙏 I just sell everything to high end restaurants who pay top dollar for produce. But if anything were to happen I would probably pursue groceries rather than stand at a farmers market all day. Thanks for following along 👊
@@chefsharvestfarm Totally understand Chef. Miss working in a restaurant but don't, lol.
Would be nice to know where the veggies come from now a day! (a lot in the news) Trying to buy land/house with acre + and grow my own again!!
@@fins5150 yeah same! If I had the time I’d love to go get in the kitchen with some of these guys I sell to. Good luck with your new property 👊
This is great information!

Any grants for the mood cabbage?
@@keithlanter883 you gotta ask the USDA
excellent podcast! I'm in Northern California, and my girlfriend and I would really like to focus in this direction.
Seems somewhat daunting though. How long has it taken you to get to this level of homesteading? I will watch the link you posted about how to get started. Thanks for posting this, it's very encouraging, yet daunting....

@@mydream2bhappy thanks Dave 🙏 I started gardening with no experience at all in 2017 when we bought this house. So about 7-8 years.
