You get me through my week my dude. To know people out there that still have common sense and a love for American history is a breath of fresh air. You are doing a great service.
It’s so easy to get caught up in the battle and forget that there was a whole community affected over the 3 days, you’re doing such a great job conveying this, enjoying it greatly 👍
I'm going to hate it when this series ends, I'm all wrapped up in it. History is great, but even better when you hear it from someone who get's more excited than I do. Seeing the sites of where it happened makes it all the better. Thanks JD.
Your channel is a national treasure! I hope someday it gets the recognition it truly deserves from our countrymen and it’s educators! Your episodes should be on exhibit in the Smithsonian..
You do a superlative job of transporting us back into our history. Don't ever change your approach, you were put on this earth to perform this service and you do it so well.
I don’t know... you are just blessed with a super talent for doing this history stuff! I’ve eaten there at the tavern many times dressed as Gen Richard Garnett along with my brother portraying Gen Lou Armistead. Fascinating place... Lord willing will be there again over the 158th.
Marvelous and beautiful. There is something about the POV from which this is shot, and the time you give us with the individual locations, returning for a look after you have spoken, that pulls the viewer into the experience of being there. And to feel some impact of these “true life” places. The seriousness and the humble man, woman and child that had to endure this and figure out what to do next. That we can all relate to. Poor Jennie Wade.
Hot tip: Many Civil War or even Revolutionary War Battlefields have existing homes that have been restored as B&B's. The extra cost is well worth the experience. There are many Great ones at Gettysburg. Well done JD!
Before this set of videos, I knew a good amount about the battle in the countryside but zilch about the fighting in the town. Thanks to you, you've changed that.
Hey man you did alot of people a great service during the pandemic...you took us all to places we may not have been able to get to ourselves....you made us feel like part of the journey/adventure, you taught us little tidbits of history that are not as well known. really really appreciate the work you put into all this. best of luck to you, keep it up if you can.
This series is just amazing! Thank you for all your hard work. You and your family be safe in your travels. That room was absolutely stunning! I hope the bed was as comfortable as it looked.
Hi, JD. This is my first time commenting, but your channel was recommended to me about 6 or 8 months ago. I have learned so many interesting facts from watching your videos. You talk about things they never really talked about when I was in school. (They probably talk about these things a lot less nowadays.) i have been to many historically significant places, and i can honestly say that i have never seen a plaque (or sign) like the one at 12:04. That is quite possibly one of the coolest things ever. Thank you for being who you are, and for doing what you do. Don’t ever change. Much love from New York.
The bullet marks on the house are fascinating, to see battle damage reminds me of shrapnel damage still seen here in the UK in London but also local to me, at an airfield where buildings still have strafing damage by German aircraft during WW11.
Hope this B&B experience opens you to the benefit of staying in this type of accommodation ... In this case, the historic aspect of this B&B helped make this stay worthwhile ... Many times though the owners can help provide local information that you might otherwise miss ... Really looked like a marvelous place ... (GREAT video overall though - I never considered WHERE the bullet that killed Jenny originated ... - Your videos are really wonderful ...)
That was too cool. Loved your room! How cool was that?I like how you get off the beaten path and visit what a lot of folks would over look. I look forward to the next Video.
New subscriber here. Thanks man for making these! As someone, like almost all of us here, who loves history but doesn’t have the chance to get out an see some of these places. You are filling/giving this heart such joy learning and seeing these memories of the past! Great job and thank you!
I stayed at the Farnsworth twice and the Jenny Wade House in the last 6 years, amazing beautiful place along with the whole town of Gettysburg. Had a bunch of creepy happenings during both stays, everything from mouth harp sounds in the attic, childs voice (Jeremy) my niece had her hair pulled, heard several footsteps and a moving shadow in the Black room…..I’m trying to get family and friends to go back soon
I stayed in the McFarlane room in 2021 and have a very clear young boy's voice saying "hi" on a video I took in the room. Also caught a bright green orb flying around the room ans even saw it with the naked eye. It was an awesome experience. Going back soon.
JD- This is way your video series is so important to our history. I HAVE NEVER heard of any of these places. I have been to the “beaten path tours” AMAZING !!!!!
Loving this series, JD, although I am seeing it a couple of years later. This is my favorite video of the series so far. The actual battle information is quite interesting, but I love the interior of The Farnsworth House. So many artifacts and so beautifully done, the room you stayed in makes me want to visit. Interesting to learn that some of the fighting occurred in the town of Gettysburg itself!
The July first Union retreat through town doesn't seem to be part of the usual agenda when it comes to Gettysburg visits. The Sweeny/Farnsworth house is another small part of the battle's history as well as a very cool place to stay. Really enjoying the series, thanks for sharing 👍. Edit: I told my wife about the episode and said it might be a nice place to stay for the night. She said she wasn't staying anywhere people were "riling up spirits" because she didn't want one attaching itself to either one of us. That's what she gets for watching all that paranormal stuff all the time 🙄.
Stephan Lang played an awesome Picket but was totally outstanding as Stonewall Jackson. The house was definitely a target...wow. Great information and wonderful vlog JD. 👍🏻😎

Great video. Love this Gettysburg tour! I think its highly unlikely a sniper would target the Wade house, specifically the door. Basically a blind shot? But if there were Union troops close by perhaps plausible. Definitely a good perch to target the street. The artillery shell that hit the house most likely a stray round intended for troops close by. Really fascinating and tragic all the same.

My friends and I rented the whole house for a few nights last year! Very cool place! The room in the video is my favorite. The Eisenhower room across the hall is also very nice. There's a HEAVY green glass jar in the bathroom of the child-themed room that tipped its top off while we were unpacking for our 1st night. I still have no logical explanation for how that things top moved on its own. The house didn't "feel" haunted to me but I heard enough things move in empty rooms that I believe it has to be haunted if anywhere is.
That was really great to see that sniper's nest ....may Jenny Wade rest in peace. Now you've made me hungry... LOL. Thanks again for the videos keep them coming and we'll see you later!
