They paid because they thought it was gonna get them a big return when they sold the items. Celebrities have admitted to changing their signatures so people could not profit by selling it. No doubt Brady did that so they could not make money off of him, which is what he should do. Nonetheless, that is the issue, they are mad that they cannot make big money like they thought they would. They do not care about the items, they are meaningless trinkets, they just wanted a big payday, and now they're mad that is not gonna happen. I bet when Brady signs for a kid, they get the real autograph, but a middle aged man trying to profit gets the throw away autograph. As sure as you're breathing Brady knew what he was doing.
except that almost 70% of USA citizens are this level wealthy. it is news, you are just poor and that's what people want to focus on because you are dumb and want to only think of others as being as bad as you.
@@postersandstuff I never said there wasn’t a market. My point was more on the unimportance of the object itself. I never understood the fascination with celebrities.
When I was a collector, my mindset was along the lines of “wow, (insert name)’s hands really touched this item, marked it, and now I own it” It makes some people feel more connected to the ones they look up to. Bit of a weird concept
The fact that the authenticators can't authenticate a real signature proves that signatures are BS. How many times in history has real signatures passed off as forgeries and forgeries accepted as authentic.
Yeah it's dated method. We now have a finger print or semi dated way of collecting hair that now can be traced with dna. But that's sounds way too dystopian outside of fingerprint
My thoughts EXACTLY! The "official " experts were WRONG, when their ENTIRE BUSINESS model is based on them being RIGHT. How are they still in business? I agree, the whole autograph thing is completely asinine. Although I did have a chance to get Hank Aarons autograph for $5. back in the 80s and I didn't do it (I hate waiting in line ) I regret that decision.
Fanatics has Brady on a contract, and he's not supposed to be signing unapproved items. This is what happens when big Corpo gets a hold of legends. This was probably the only way Brady could skirt his contract.....by not actually using his signature. LOL. What a joke big money has done to the fans/collectors.
Hit the nail on the head. It's become a joke, just like anything that main stream rich bullies get their hands on. You're right about the way he signs as well. I was lucky enough to get two magazines signed and it looks very much like the videos autos! I don't mind as much as these guys because I never paid thousands and then hoped to turn a profit! I actually cherish the magazines!
I forgot to mention, luckily some other guy had a silver marker because Tom says "can't do blue unless it's Brady blue, sorry, silver or nada" lol if the silver marker guy hadn't been there I guess I would have gotten 'nada'. Could have been a joke but he seemed serious.
@SkrvnHiptR77 It's because blue inks can be pressed onto other items. I'm assuming the "Brady blue" is a shade that has a unique shade so it dries quicker or can't be pressed onto other items
As a card/mem collector myself I have ZERO sympathy for this man. You buy this stuff to collect and its meaningful to you. But here he is solely having it signed to have it authenticated to RESELL or INVEST. He already has proof of it being signed but its not good enough for him because of resale concerns. Plus, at the end of the day the thousands of dollars paid is divided to greedy organizers, the lavish party event, and is going to Brady who is already well off. It is truly fools money, and going public makes him even more of a FOOL!
It’s not necessarily for him to resell & it might be meaningful to him if it actually looked like a Brady auto. It doesn’t matter if he witnessed Brady putting pen to item if he just scribbles something that doesn’t even resemble an auto. If I’m getting what resembles the scribble of an infant than I’d much rather have the memorabilia without said auto. Guys like Mickey Mantle & Michael Jordan have done way more signatures & they always sign their names properly, do it right or don’t do it at all
This is a hobby for him & he paid to get them signed, so what if he wants use it for resell?! Tom Brady charging a fortune (no big issues with that) to do to sign his name & he instead ruins the guys property. That’s pretty f’ed up of him!
Even if it looked better you wouldn't know it was "authentic". You didn't watch him sign it because you're using a shady signature factory to make money.
Okay but if that's the case Brady should not have been charging her autographs at all. If you're against the idea of monetizing autographs shouldn't you be mad at Tom Brady for having an event that did exactly this
I predict in 40 or 50 years, those items with proper providence, will be among the most valuable Brady signed items in existence. Just get documentation. Make a website about it. Get collector magazines to write an article about it. Get Brady to say he signed those. Make it so everyone knows about those particular things and the unusual but ACTUAL Tom Brady signature. A collectible is something people want and is limited. Unless he starts signing like that every time, those are going to be worth a fortune.
I just left the very same comment before reading yours but I didn't think about making publicity about it, EXCELLENT IDEA, they should of got a picture of Brady with the items.
If youre willing to spend thousands on someone's autograph then you deserve whatever penmanship theyre giving you. Heck from what i learned with rare -worn collectibles is that signing them years after the fact may hurt their price anyway. These are just foolish collectors
I felt so much peace when I left the collecting scene. It’s stressful to care about condition, limited releases, fighting crowds, all that. Happily a minimalist and content with what I have
A natural disaster destroyed my home and most of my belongings. I realized I didn’t miss most of that stuff and definitely didn’t care to pay to buy them again. I also like that I feel more lightweight and not tied down to stuff. Currently all of my belongings can fit in my car. I still have some nonessential collector items. They fit in a small tote. I appreciate the few I have. If something happened to them, I wouldn’t chase to own them again.
Whether or not you wanted the scribbles, he actively signed them himself, which means he fulfilled his end of the contract whether or not you like the way it looks is irrelevant
@@postersandstuffNope. You try it in court. There is no law that says a celeb has to sign anything, let alone a signature that is letter by letter discernable. The guy has his proof in the receipt he got for his money. That's his authentication. If he doesn't have that, then he's telling a pack of lies, either in how much he paid, or that he paid at all, or that he sent them to be signed at a legit event. OR he's dealing with an idiot dealer.
The local news just verified that he did have receipts any paid exactly a certain amount per signature. I know people here don't want to criticize Tom Brady but Jesus... Even though this collector is quirky and kind of silly the fact is Brady was monetizing his autograph and did a s***** job
I've never in my wildest dreams imagined someone complaining that his favorite celebrity didn't autograph their name the way he wanted it. The most bizarre complaint I've ever heard of in my life
You didn't really listen to the video then. Authentication is pretty huge in the sports memorabilia world. If Brady has a signature everyone knows they will expect to see that signature. This man paid thousands of dollars. If he ever decides to sell his memorabilia he is going to have a hard time making his money back, all because Tom was too lazy to actually give him a complete signature. It has nothing to do with the reason you said and is actually a legitimate complaint, especially for the money he spent.
Except, he agreed to sign a bunch of stuff and at a very HEFTY price tag. Have some pride in your work. If he gives them a product in return that has lesser value because he was too lazy to write his full signature then that's a problem.
Well its still bradys signature… He did them like that so the items wouldnt just be resold for profit… Cause thats what most of the people tried to do… Get him to sign something so that it becomes more valuable. They dont care about the signature, They care about the resale value.
If they paid $7300 for it they can do what ever the heck they want. There is no clause that they keep it and cherish it forever. I can see if they are knocking people down to get to him at the airport so they can get his autograph and sell it on eBay. Those people are scummy. But if he paid $7300 I think he has a right to resell it if he wants. Brady got his money for doing it.
His autograph is altered and worthless on non approved stuff. Almost all the celebrities that have an autograph contract do this because they get sick of telling fans they can’t sign the item. Fans don’t take time to do research and they get sick of telling hundreds of people they can’t sign that item that they just give up and use an altered signature. If fans would do the research or just listen to the venues then this wouldn’t happen but since they don’t it’s becoming more and more common.
The current situation regarding autographs is extremely discouraging. Decades ago athletes' and celebrities' signatures in general were neat and very legible. Penmanship was taught in schools and deemed a necessary skill. When did two indecipherable letters become an autograph? What good is an autograph if you honestly can't tell whose it is? This always baffles me. I have a handful of autographs of HOF'ers from all four major sports in the USA who were superstars in the 1950's, 60's and 70's. Each one is extremely neat and you can read every letter of both the first and last names easily. They are some of the most beautiful examples of penmanship you'll ever see from grown men, including one of the all-time beasts of the NFL. Maybe if people would stop all the greedy speculation and idol worship and not pay ridiculous amounts of money for scribbles especially from prospects who will probably never be HOF'ers or even have what will be considered very good to great careers then these athletes will start to take more pride in their signatures in the future. Honestly, you can see examples of their signatures (and I use this term very loosely) before you buy them so why would you want to waste your hard earned money for a signature that reflects little if any respect for the fan who wants it? They will continue to get away with this for as long as the paying public encourages it.
Both parties should be embarrassed. Tom should be embarrassed for a lazy signature and the fans or collectors for spending half a salary on autographs. Yes, some people make very little money in a year and these buffoons spent half of that.
Not sure it’s that easy, those are rare items . . 1971 game program, game worn cleats. I think the damage is pretty high and signing something basic won’t undo it. To make it right he’d have to return the money and throw in some extra for the lost value of the items. I’ve always thought pretty highly of Tom’s character, it’s a shame he wouldn’t realize the importance of delivering a nice signature to people who paid thousands.
The mental health and depression crisis in the USA is real. The ones with drug problems are visible but those with sports problems are not, unless they gamble or deal in memorabilia
Wow, there are a bunch of jealous people on here. It says that the man is a “sports memorabilia collector”! It doesn’t say that he is a dealer! I own a few autographed pieces of recently graduated college athletes, that I stood in line for hours just weeks after having cancer surgery, to have the opportunity to get an autograph that luckily included a numbered hologram. I added them to my meager collection. I didn’t buy them to resell, but I definitely hope they increase in value. If the player is a bust, the value will drop, if he is a star, it will increase. They were favorite players of mine anyway. Brady definitely was a star, and if he TAKES $3600 per autograph, he should take his time and sign the item correctly. If he doesn’t want the money, just refuse to sign the items. If he gets too tired to make $3600 for 5 seconds worth of work to sign his autograph correctly, then STOP taking the money. Unfortunately, the money charged is beyond the reach of most fans, so only the well-heeled can do it. For all you folks that have NO sympathy for this gentleman, I hope you don’t collect anything. Some people spend lots of their hard earned money on whatever they choose to collect, whether it’s matchbooks or barbed wire. It doesn’t matter! It’s enjoyable to them and it’s their money after all. I might not want to collect what they enjoy, but I will NEVER berate them for collecting it! Like was said below, some folks like Peyton Manning do it the correct way…….others don’t!
Most people just don't understand, same thing for expensive art pieces. I bought a piece local to me because of the history, paid about $250 for it years ago. Turns out it's worth more than $10,000 currently, yet it still sits in my office room.
@@neopolitan2076 It’s the guys hobby & his own money. Definitely not something I would care to spend money on but either way, what Brady did was pretty bad.

Guys like Ruth, DiMaggio, Mantle would never, take some pride in your auto. I want a beautiful recognizable auto not an unrecognizable scribble that doesn’t even look like a letter. What a joke do better Brady!
You could’ve donated that money for some child’s first year of community college instead of wasting it on an over paid entitled athlete. You paid the devil and you lost.
Can't say I feel bad for this guy. He obviously has the money so he'll get over it. Plus he's a dealer they are all crooks anyway, what goes around comes around.
These guys all have their autograph where they take their time and it’s legible and they have their assembly line autograph which is a scribble and on to the next piece. I have zero sympathy for this collector buying anything he didn’t see first, and if he did see it first he deserved what he got.
If they were able to pay to go see him in the first place then they must be financially stable. Sounds like collectors are getting greedy. They should enjoy the opportunity to meet Brady and be happy he signed anything. I'm sure the point of the event was not to see how much they could make off Bradys signature. Clearly not true Brady fans. I got Louis Tiantes autograph at an IHOP when I was 13 and I still cherish it to this day even if it's not worth a dime.
Paying that much is ridiculous, especially when they don’t even bother to spell their name. Been collecting memorabilia since I was a kid, got Sparky Anderson and Alan Trammels autographs for free by leaning over the dugout and asking nicely. You can read them too, thought I was going to get yelled at by Sparky but he was much nicer than he looked.

I know that sports memorabilia is an entire sub-industry, but I have no empathy for these guys Not saying that these guys specifically do this, but so many memorabilia sellers gouge the end consumer for things that more times than not, DON’T appreciate in value I get that the more obscure the signed item, the better chance it has to appreciate, but they take items that on their own aren’t worth as much as people think they are, pay (usually) a modest signing fee, pay another small fee to get it authenticated and then charge hundreds if not thousands for it I’m not saying that Brady is right to have half-assed the scribbles, but when you’re charging $3,500 for a signature and a flock of re-sellers have a bunch of items, I have a feeling that Brady knew exactly what he was doing Lesson to the memorabilia crowd; if it’s an investment to hold on to signed trinkets, remember that investments carry risk of loss, even minutes after you buy it Those game shoes… who knows what they paid for them… might’ve been given to a kid and the memorabilia person might’ve paid them $100 for them… gets them each signed ($7,000) and then prolly would’ve tried to sell them for $10k or more… probably a lot more… but if someone came in to sell those same shoes to a dealer, they’d probably be offered $2k at best and then see them in the display case later that day for $10k Same with regular investments… spend $7k on a given stock on Monday morning, transaction finalizes Tuesday… by Tuesday night that investment might drop to $4k in value… maybe it recovers over time, maybe you got a crap stock at a fluke high… Here is sounds like Brady knew damn well that every single person there was just trying to have him sign blank checks for them In this case alone… good on Brady Price gouging, market inflating, memorabilia dealers can suck a lemon
if a place that checks the signatures doesn't accept a legit signature even tho there is video proof and hard evidence then that says more about a place that verifies then anything.
EXACTLY! No such thing as signature experts anymore, it's a monopoly made by contracts! Rejecting a legitimate signature is quite absurd. And tells me THEY are the ones responsible for the "limited" numbers. Just like the diamond market. Diamonds are as common as gravel yet are hoarded to drive price way up. Dirty business.
He price gouged them, and they paid, so he should do his part. After all, grown men pay and take time out of their days to watch others throw a ball around and chase each other. It’s pointless to me. Also, I acknowledge that it’s possible that age, and wear and tear on the body has caused his signature to change over time.
Whatever certification body is rejecting them will have to accept that they are Brady’s signature. He can change his signature anytime he wants it is his signature after all and in this case he did sign them.
Get over it. He gambled and lost. He thought he could spend $15k and make a million dollars reselling it. Brady knew this when he saw the dollar signs in the man's eyes, which is exactly why he signed it that way. He's not going to sign someone's entire collection so that they can turn massive profits. It also waters down the value of balls, jerseys, etc that he signs for kids at children's hospitals, games, or charities. THAT memorabilia that has actual sentimental value. That old man gets no pity from me.
Hey Black people they talk about you wasting your money on gold and nice cars & clothes…These fools are paying thousands of dollars for somebody signature. That means nothing on some ugly sneakers in a paper card etc.
Hilarious!!! These guys aren’t fans. They’re treasure hunters looking to make a fortune off someone else’s work. I bet it’s a real comfort surrounded by all your possessions when your relatives will be fighting over it when you die.
That's what you get for wasting money on trash instead of helping animals or something. Besides what kind of man wants another man's name anywhere around his house or anything like that I've never understood that it's kind of weird when men collect stuff of other men.
You see adults running around major league stadiums with ball after ball and card after card trying to get autographs before and after games. They aren't collecters they are dealers.
You can't ask for re sign them when the deeds already done,.he already did what he ask, which is sign those memorabilia. The contract never stated that you have to sign it certain way so he could flip it for more money,.so by contract law, transaction already finished and he cannot sue him. Think about it, if you go to a restaurant and people there serve you foods and you don't like it, can you ask for your money back? No,.whether you like the foods or not, it's your problem not restaurant's problem. 😅

If you want a busy person to sign a bunch of stuff, expect it to be quickly done

If he didn't want to sign autographs why did he set up an event charging thousands to sign autographs? Your comment makes no sense.
WRONG
I have a Steve Grogan autographed mini-helmet and you're correct,it's very neat and legible.
"stop idol worship" and then also you "I have autographs too". Lol.
Is the NFL beast Jim Brown? I feel like it's him for some reason.
Brady forgot to mention he only had three minutes to sign everything.
Both parties should be embarrassed. Tom should be embarrassed for a lazy signature and the fans or collectors for spending half a salary on autographs. Yes, some people make very little money in a year and these buffoons spent half of that.
Brady can easily make this right by just signing a few items and sending them to this man’s house. End of story. Brady would be Legend for it, too.
@@randywatson341 maybe if Tom like met up with him and took a photo with the memorabilia in the picture so he can get it authenticated easy would do.

He's already a legend.

I’m not saying that Brady is right to have half-assed the scribbles, but when you’re charging $3,500 for a signature and a flock of re-sellers have a bunch of items, I have a feeling that Brady knew exactly what he was doing
Lesson to the memorabilia crowd; if it’s an investment to hold on to signed trinkets, remember that investments carry risk of loss, even minutes after you buy it

Same with regular investments… spend $7k on a given stock on Monday morning, transaction finalizes Tuesday… by Tuesday night that investment might drop to $4k in value… maybe it recovers over time, maybe you got a crap stock at a fluke high…
