Please note that The Netherlands back in the 17th century was the mightiest country in the world, colonised Indonesia, Australia(New Holland) and stuff... New Zealand is called after our prince Zeeland. Brooklyn. Harlem (Breukelen, Haarlem), also examples. Back the the Dutch fleet was the biggest by far.
We never colonized Australia though. We just discovered it and gave it a name (same for New Zealand). The rest is true. If I'm not mistaken, our fleet was larger than the second and third combined.
we also kinda made New York, since it was first called New Amsterdam. so yeah. we made it, it got concuered, it was renamed New York

My grandmother came from the Netherlands, she immigrated to Scotland during one of the world wars and then she ended up having five children with a native Scottish man. And my mother when she was about 19 came over to America in 1975. And then she ended up having six kids. And she still lives here today

Dutch people are not offended when you ask them if they're from Holland, most Dutch people even say 'Holland' themselves instead of The Netherlands. It's totally fine. :) What he says about it is correct though, not many people know the difference.

I am dutch, i am proud of it, altough the language might be a bit strange for english people but its a beautiful language. In this video yuo could see some amazing vieuws from the netherlands. The netherlands also were big in history of the world, there was the golden age as we call it where the netherlands were big with trading and especially paintings like the nachtwacht from rembrandt van rijn.
Being of Dutch origin, I live in another country for more then 10 years now.
With good reason, for I married a wonderful woman, in the land where I live now.
Seeing this video, brought tears to my eyes. Twice! Once because I actually felt a little bit homesick, for the first time in ten years, probably because I have not been eable to return for such a long time, because of Covid. The second time, because of the pronunciation of "Keukenhof".
But hey, Dutch is a rotten language to learn, and to pronounce, so, no worries.

However, what I meant was, that being a Dutch national, have given the people of the Netherlands Antilles the proviso travel around Europe without visa. For instance, I’m living in the UK, I came to this country and have the same rights as a British person thanks to the Dutch Nationality. While a British citizen, needed a visa to travel to Curaçao. ( of course things has changed now with Brexit)

I don’t mind foreigners referring to our nation by saying “Holland”. The thing I get worked up about is Dutchmen replying to the question “Where do you come from?” answering “Holland”. They teach wrongly and don’t know their country’s name in English. Again, foreigners are forgiven, few citizens of the Netherlands often support the nation by saying Holland theirselves too, for example during soccer games, or naming traditional food, but teaching/spreading a wrong name as a native intentionally without any context is different.

I live in Gelderland and it’s amazing, the landscapes are really good, I used to play at the scouting clu pb in the forests, making little huts with my friends and stuff

2. In Dutch 'The Hague' is called 'Den Haag'. If you translate the word 'the' do Dutch it is 'de', so in Dutch it is not a Article.
3. Fun fact: Our king (Willem Alexander) is a pilot for KLM and does about one flight a month :D

Don't forget dat Den Haag as well as Den Bosch are shortened versions of the original town names. So Den Haag was 's-Gravenhage before where the 's was a shortened version of des. That translates to the fence/hedge of the count/earl. This was a big area that was fenced off as property of said count/earl.
Of course these were long names that especially internationally were considered confusing and so they got shortened to their current form. (Den Bosch or 's-Hertogenbosch means the count's woods).

Kind of annoyed only. It's because (generalization of course) the personal culture of the Hollands is quite different from say Gelderland, Noord-Brabant or the North-Eastern provinces.

I never heard of a city with “the” in it for a long time either, because in the Netherlands it’s called “Den Haag”!
Actually the official name is 's Gravenhage but Den Haag is also accepted. It's one of the few cities with two names, Den Bosch ('s Hertogenbosch) being the other one.
If you want to nerd it up even more, you could say that, officially, The Hague/Den Haag/s 'Gravenhage isn't actually a city because it's never gained official city rights.

Louis Napoleon, the French Emperor's brother, was actually *first king of Holland.*
The Dutch people loved him and he loved Holland/The Netherlands in return.
He actually followed lessons in Dutch, gave money and aid to the victims after a big munitions ship had exploded and he also ignored Dutch illegal trade with the English, which was strictly forbidden by the Continental System imposed by his brother, the Emperor of France.
When Napoleon asked Louis to send him 40,000 fresh Dutch troops, Louis responded he was unable to because there weren't that many left after Napoleon's first few drafts.
After only a few years, Louis Napoleon, King of Holland, was recalled by his brother in disgrace.
The Dutch however were sad to see him go. He also gave us the idea that having a monarch was kind of neat so when the Prince of Orange returned from Great Britain, he became first Dutch king Willem I.
Napoleon made troubles in many places.

Another fun fact: the king of the Netherlands actually has a job at KLM as a pilot. So it gives the “royal” in royal dutch airlines an extra meaning.

The term Holland has nothing to do with the water , but it is an old Sachsion term for a Forest , Trees Holland ; Holt = Wood , so Woodland = Holland

as a dutch person i can tell about the aviation part: the introducer of flying in the Netherlands was not albert plesman, it was Anthony Fokker, plesman was the director of KLM. I can teel this because I made a thesis about aviation and got 8 out of 10 points

There's another language in the Netherlands, it's called Nether-Saxon. The Nether-Saxon language covers most of the east of the country, and similarly, most of the West of Germany; the language has it's own local dialects. The language is literally in between official Dutch and German, retaining elements of both, but has a unique enough syntax and grammar it's considered its own language.
Dutch people in the west of the country who have never learned Nether-Saxon as such can usually still understand the language (Unlike the Fries language, which takes a lot more effort to decipher). The same doesn't go for Germans.
We call in Den Haag, but because we are able to speak some tones (like the g or sch) that people from different countries can't, it is called The Hague. This way people who visit The Netherlands are able to explain were they are going without having struggels. And we don't get offended when you say your are going to Holland, even though your are going to visit our whole country, we just appreciate it more when you say that you are going to the Netherlands. We from the Netherlands also don't say; we are going to California even tho we visit every state.
We actually had the most succesfull company EVER! The VOC or Verenigde Oost-Indische Compagnie had the highest profit of any company ever. That's gotta be an interesting fact.

One thing I DIDNT know, however is that there are Seals there! When you said that I almost cried because I have always qindered why I love them so much...and now I know!
