  • 12-DEC-84 North of Murmansk
K-371 (Victor II) had returned to Murmansk for reloads after expending most torpedoes to discourage a NATO CVBG.
Our new orders are to block yet ANOTHER attempt for an amphib force to take Andoya.
    13-DEC-84 West of Andoya
We have intercepted the convoy. It only had 3... no, 4 ships, 2 escorts, 1 lander, and 1 freighter.
Unfortunately, I had gotten a bit too close thinking a strong layer would cover me. I was soon harshly reminded of that when torpedoes started raining down on me from the Spurance... AFTER I got 2 65-76s out, plus a TEST-71 for the Spurance. AND a mobile decoy.
As I dove for test depth at flank, popping noisemakers, there were at least 9 torpedoes near me, plus a couple passive torps that I can't see. Fortunately, more than half are after my decoy, leaving 2 I actually need to dodge.
We took a hit from a passive torp I forgot to knuckle for, which damaged propulsion, so we're limited to 10 kt until that's repaired. We launched another torpedo or two against the 2 escorts, even as escorts ASROC'ed us.
Soon wwe heard explosions in the distance. Our 65-76 torpedoes had successfully followed the wake and destroyed our primary targets. Now we just have to survive the escorts, and our TEST-71s are closing in.
We sped southeast, only to realize we have more passive (and active) torps after us. We popped a 3rd mobile decoy, and started knuckling while turning northeast. It worked partially, and we were hit again. Our pumps are damaged, and engineer told us propulsion is now limited to 10 kt and requires yard time. No matter, we will survive.
All enemy ships are down, so the helo is just being annoying. We started shooting off those 65-76s to lighten the ship, while avoiding the helo, looking for opportunity to disengage, which finally came.
GLAVCOM was happy that we smashed the amphib force, but gave us our "final" mission... We need to locate the NATO "boomer(s)" ASAP. Unfortunately, with us limited to 10 kt, we're no good, so we decided to run back to Murmansk (it's not far) for some yard time.
That final mission will just have to wait (for the next episode, which will be FINAL).
Instead of a "clean sweep", this is an ugly sweep.

This will be my second attempt of Soviet campaign. If you want to watch the first version: • (CCPlays) 1984 Soviet ...
The year is 1984. For whatever reason that sounds plausible, the tension between the West and Soviet Union went taut, then snapped into open war. The Soviet Army can take Europe, if the Soviet Navy can stop or at least slow the amount of reinforcements reaching continental Europe from the US. And as a captain of a Soviet navy submarine, I will do my duty for the Motherland.
There is one mod to the campaign. I used the "Small Mods" guide (which I wrote, by the way) to remove the prestige requirement so I start in a Victor II, instead of the deathtrap diesel-electric subs like the Whiskey boats. You can learn how to do that here:
