      Just like any diesel… smoke at start up. Then clear. No muffler is attached either for shipping. They are removed so trucks can deliver under bridges etc to new job. These type of units backup hospitals so they remain powered during an outage. I’d hate to be in surgery and have the lights go out… how about you?

      @@GeneratorSource You're basically right, but I would wish that my diesel BMW would also smoke black like that when it starts cold...😋👍🤣🤣

      That is a Mitsubishi s16r engine, an older engine with separate inline injection pumps for each bank. Newer diesel generators have electronic injection, and essentially all tier 4 generators have diesel particulate filters to clean up the exhaust. And remember, standby diesel generators usually don't run very much unless there is a power outage. They just sit around doing nothing except for occasionally running scheduled exercises. Also, diesel generators run at constant speed and nearly constant load, unless an electric motor starts. So they produce much less pollution than automotive, construction, or agricultural diesel engines.
