I added that "Coin Operated Boy" song to my playlist after I discovered it from this show and connected it to a certain franchise and moment, just like"Something in the Way" for Batman and "Like a Prayer" for Deadpool and Wolverine!
Its really sad to know the only reason Nina was in prison is because people literally percevied her to be a monster solely based on appearance. In reality, out of all Creature Commandos, Nina had the most humanity in her.
Literally the only member on the team besides Weasel (probably) who hadn't killed ANYTHING. Weasel didn't kill those kids, but everyone thinks he did because he literally can't tell his side of things. Which, by proxy, makes it so in the official records Nina's ONLY crime is that she looked different from everyone else, which in hindsight is kind of insane considering the caliber of crazy she's locked up with. Suicide Squad was only floors above them, King Shark gets transferred down there and we know exactly how he feels about killing things, Phosphorus is a apathetic sadist, Bride doesn't give a shit about casualties and probably got a few people killed in her fights with Frankenstein, and yet SHE is locked up in the Monster division? Absolutely insane
3 Things: Considering how depressing the first season was, I can only imagine the heartbreaking backstory they’ll give Nosferata in season 2. Probably my favorite shot of the season is the princess’ blue eyes peering through the blood in the water. So chilling. Also, man do I love how unapologetically evil Phosphorus is. A true Batman villain in an antihero team.
Oh my god, I didn’t catch it before! Phosphorous called Weasel Fruit Brute! One of the lesser known cereal monsters who’s a werewolf, that’s hilarious! 😂 They’ve actually brought that one back the last couple years I’m pretty sure
I believe the old woman with Eric Frankenstein, in the post credit, is the woman who called him in to tell him where the Bride was. The one with Zac Efron on her phone’s lock screen
Nina will definitely come back, maybe thanks to the mummy called Khalis and his magical healing powers. In the comics he healed Nina to the point where she no longer needed the suit to breathe on land. Also, let's not forget that we didn't even saw her intellectual capabilities because Amanda said that she was the smartest of the group. In an interview the actress who voices her said that she's exited to play her in live action.
I'd hate this with passion. I love Nina, her death really hit me like a truck, but I want dead characters to stay dead. Death should be meaningful, specially in stories like these
Reading Conan by candle light while listening to the sound track on an iPod sounds like the hardest shit. That's why I love these guys, they do the kind of stuff I'd be doing with my nerdy ass at home lol
3:47 I think GI Robot has the most of an actual kill count, saying how many Nazis he's killed in each battle and they said over 1000, plus you can count all the ones he kills in his episode as well
8:57 I think he called him "Fruit Brute" which would be a DEEP cut as it's one of the General Mills monster cereals from the 1970's. That one was cherry flavored I think but the mascot was a werewolf.
Biggest takeaway from this is that Bride essentially acted rogue in killing the princess in the end. The war is still gonna start at some point, wonder if we’ll see any hints of it in Superman
@GoB1996 Well, they certainly left a power vacuum because the old queen (Ilana's mom) is not gonna be able to defend her position. A civil war is coming. The US did what it does best: destabilization.
She was made for aquatic life and couldn’t even kill a regular human girl in the water. She was a sweetheart and deserved better for a superhero team she was completely useless
@@antzvoli4577 The princess is (well, was) clearly very well trained in combat, by the way she disarmed an assailant (Nina) and killed her without skipping a beat. Nina had no training and it was never implied she had to deal with life or death situations. Waller says she is the most intelligent of the bunch and would likely be very useful in many cases, but she's no fighter. They just assigned her with the wrong task, unfortunately.
Nina’s death was so sad! She was completely and 100% innocent. She did absolutely nothing wrong. She only existed and was captured and killed for it. I was not happy about her death.

Nina’s life was a tragedy from start to finish. Her end was a true gut punch when you realize she’s the only true innocent in the series. The entire season people were theorizing why Nina was imprisoned, what incredible power she had hidden and what terrible crime she might have committed. But the twist was there wasn’t a twist. Nina had never done anything wrong. She never hurt anyone, even as self defense or revenge. Rather than be near those that hurt her she simply tried to be alone. She couldn’t have killed the princess in the end because it wasn’t in her to hurt anyone, unlike the princess. She never stood a chance. Only two people ever cared about her, her father that was murdered in front of her and the Bride that called her the biggest freak of them all and sent her to her death. Nina deserved a softer, kinder world.
Exactly bullies suck, and still not enough folks stand up or speak up when they see it happening... Loved Creature Commandos can't wait to see where the story goes next season and if the new superman movie will have an impact somehow. Hope you guys stay safe out there with everything going on.
So Gunn starts with Weasel drowning in The Suicide Squad, and ends with him running into water to save his friend, resulting in another dying. Goddess, that's dark. lol
I definitely like Nina and Weasel and all the others people shun as monsters, but I've always felt a need and want to love others like that. Nina is really sweet and smart, and Weasel is still a cute animal even with him looking like he does I think he's adorable and deserves all the pets😂
King Shark here is voiced by Diedrich Bader (Brave and the Bold and Harley Quinn show Batman) and Sly will return since he said he would during a interview for one of his projects (I think was Tulsa King)
I really enjoyed listening to your guys reactions on this show. This season started out as a slow burn for me but by the 3rd episode I was on an emotional roller coaster. I think James Gunn ability to allow us the viewers to connect with the characters is just chef’s kiss 🤌🏾, I teared up in episodes 4 & 7 of this show and remember doing the same in Guardians 3 over rocket raccoon . You guys bring up a great point about the world building aspect of the DCU James is doing. I couldn’t help but think of how dark & gritty this show’s tone and themes were. But like you guys said, it has to be intentional to have this show come first before the arrival of Superman who represents hope. I’m definitely looking forward to season 2 & the new Superman movie. Thank you guys for all you do ! 🙏🏾❤️
Something I can’t help thinking also, is that given the first season used the idea of giving each character pretty much one full episode to have their backstory fleshed out; I hope Season 2 chooses a different technique. Don’t get me wrong it was super cool, but if every Season is just gonna be episodic character bios that could get stale quick, but I trust Gunn so let’s see. Obviously foolishly excited to see Superman, I also am entirely excited to see Lanterns, I just watched Rebel Ridge tonight, and I think Aaron Pierre has greeeeaaaat promise for John Stewart. I just hope they give the Lanterns the respect they deserve, I’m also rewatching Justice League (Animated) and it’s easy to see how they gave that respect to the John Stewart character in that. A lot of the time he’s the one calling the shots, and doing things other league members can’t. Excited to see where they go with it
Another great review lads !!! I agree with you all on this one, the world building vs story building was important and a cool starting point. I think we got great cameos to add to that world building as well as some full blown characters (not cameos) that helped fill out the world (Cersei, Economos, Flag), I agree with Augustin, that is was very funky, a cool animation style, good music choices, and the intro was awesome !!! Excited for season 2 and to see how this will weave in and out of other corners of the new…DCU !!!
Not sure if someone noted, Khalis (mummy at the end) can revive Nina like he does in the comics in Season 2. Would definitely be interesting, especially if done in a way that isn't underwhelming or unearned.
Does anyone else find it weird that a lot of the civilians in the show act freaked out by the team? In a universe where metahumans exist? Where Themyscira is well known, it’s safe to assume Atlantis is also known- Non humans already exist in this universe, Batman has already gone through multiple robins- there’s multiple green lanterns on earth. Everything would imply that this world is really rich in history and these things should be common knowledge, buuut a lot of the people behave like that isn’t the fact. Also why did it take Batman so long to capture Phosphorus? Dude literally took over an entire gang and wiped a bunch of people out in public places.
Hey guys👋🏻. That wasn’t Stallone probably cuz it was a small role with few lines. I think if King Shark gets a bigger role in S2, or live action he might return.
I think the issue with Peacemaker was that it was kind of just floating in the middle of the ocean. DC didn't feel like it had a proper universe that everything was connected to. Peacemaker felt a little silly because you had somewhat normal humans, despite all the references and mentions to DC characters, dealing with aliens that look like butterflies that take over people's bodies. Like, if the show was more connected to the new DCU, the characters and the storyline would feel like it had somewhere to belong.
Also, lastly (sorry lol), I like how they’re making it so that even though this is a world where all these characters exist, it doesn’t necessarily mean that they’re privy about each other. Like for example Augustin commenting about Superman being in Pokolistan, and the concurrent discussion about how he will navigate the world’s borders, like we also have to keep in mind, he has a life as Clark Kent, and can’t be everywhere at once, not to mention he doesn’t have the resources of the Lanterns or Waller. So there will be stuff he doesn’t even know about
I don’t love the decision to fridge Nina, to be honest, but the rest of the show was so good that it’s still one of my favorite shows of the year. Can’t wait for season 2

Society is treating Nina like this for being an underwater sea dwelling creature. This must mean that people don’t know about Atlantis or Aquaman in the universe yet much like they don’t know about wonder woman who is not exposed to himself to the rest of the world. James Gunn did say that only a few things are canon and not everything else so Batman exist in this world because we saw him with phosphorus they know about Superman, but they don’t know about other major heroes in the justice league yet. I think this is because James has green lit movies that are pushing story rather than in over our King universe. If it’s a good script, he wants it to be me. He’s great at taking very little known characters that no one knows about and making them very popular just like he did with the guardians of the galaxy.
The way I read Creature Commandos, and why it has to precede Superman, is that this is a cynical world without hope. Your choice is between openly malicious villains and understandable yet horrific monsters (including Batman, Waller, and Circe here). Hope is in short supply. It's a world that needs Superman.
I just REALLY hated to see Nina go. When Waller said "In water its a different story" I really thought when she jumped in the water she was going to be a terror. Not so much though....
Them killing Nina made me completely uninterested in season 2 because if I just wanted to watch the slaughter team at work there are a dozen other shows doing that right now.
Nina is characterized as a monster because she’s an outsider just like G.I. robot. The bride and phosphorus phosphorus humanity was stolen from him. Therefore he had no choice, but to take up the life of a villain you could say the bride looks the way she looks and the only love she ever felt besides the friendship she had with Nina was from Dr. Frankenstein, who treated her like a person. Weasel cannot communicate his real feelings because he’s more animal than Man 🔥🎥 and was seen as a monster, though he was only playing with those kids, and when the fire broke out, he was trying to rescue him, but the cops and the old man only saw him for what he looked like. GI robot was put in jail for leaning into his true nature of eliminating the threat of Nazis and not being able to adapt to a “normal life”. Nina is seen as a frog and treated as a frog by the other students in her class and much like the rest of society to see her as an underwater sea creature.
I'm just glad the princess died, because I was worried it was going to continue to next season and I HATE those shows that keep reusing the same plots and returning villains with no real resolution!😂
I am hoping I just missed it in the past, does Blue Beetle happen to still be in this new universe? Or are we not sure? Really enjoyed that one and was hoping to see more of it.
The true monsters are Amanda Waller, the princess, the mob bosses who did what they did to phosphorus the old man in the cop who mistreated weasel Frankenstein, the monster who was abusive and objectifying to the bride . It makes you think about what a monster is by definition or by appearance no one classifies Superman as a monster, though he has these terrifying abilities that kind of power that could wipe out the entire human race, he has seen as a paragon of virtue as symbol of hope something angelic like. Aquaman is not seen as a freak because he is living below. The world’s oceans can speak to aquatic creature deals with things that could be considered magic with the triton of Neptune, though in this universe, I don’t think that he is known yet this phase of the DCU is known as gods and monsters.
Hey guys, just to be careful. Take care of yourselves and worst case scenario, we wait a little while for you to come back online. All three of you guys your safety is more important.
Clayface became the professor after she spoke to Waller and convinced her Circe was telling the truth, that's why her personality was different and why she pronounced Themiscyra differently.
@@extracheddar they knew flag would investigate because the princess started a relationship with him to get him to be emotionally invested in her and be against anything they find out from Circe.
story of Nina and the outcome really made me upset with how Gunn wrote her. Cause, why? Really making us care the most about the character, showing us that she is her whole life miserable only to kill her right when she finds her "friends" and just before killing her off? Cmon. Its effective, but it feels like a cheap trick and not a good one. I care for Nina 100x times more than for Weasel after this ep, shame. No redemption in her story
@@fuzzyotterpaws4395 so did people not finish watching the movie because we legit see King Shark leave on the helicopter with Ratcatcher and Bloodsport
I think the reason why this finale doesn't work for me, is that all the conflicts in the episode could have been avoided if people talked to each other. Also, all the reasons why people weren't talking to each other seemed contrived for the sake of the plot.
Sorry Agustin usually agree with ya. Prisoners fighting the fires is justice for taking away from society. At least they can try and do some good after taking away. This is "bad guys" filling people's agenda who think they're right.
Really didn't like how the show handled Nina and Ilana's death. Firstly Nina had zero combat training or experience killing anyone. Yet Phosphorus and the Bride pushed her to go kill Ilana. Who they know is dangerous. And when Nina gets killed by Ilana (in self defense) the Bride blames it all on the princess. She takes now responsibility for it. Then when we come to Ilana. Her death was way to sudden. There we're so many things we didn't find out about her. Her motivations, her story etc. She should have been the antagonist of s2 and been fleshed out more.
I mean Nina was sent in on an assassination job, go in, stab the princess and get it out. Once Nina lost the element of surprise , it was set and match against someone with fighting experience
Show was mediocre- for me it really was just another suicide squad felt more similar than original. It wasn’t bad at all, don’t get me wrong but for me, it’s overhyped. Nina was completely useless she couldn’t even kill a regular human girl in water and she’s made for the water- she didn’t have one good breakout moment the entire season. I’ll watch next season but I’m not waiting w/bated breath. My rank for the season 1: C-
Thing that bugs me the most, is Gunn is now in charge was feared he was gonna wipe out everything and keep his characters and that's exactly what he did. SS characters and lore, peacemaker overtly sexualized non entry point for new fans. Tons of shows get written and never made he has all the choice in what does, and chose this. Excited for his Superman but not a good look or start to a "New" DC.

I think they should go to Circe to confirm if that future has been averted.
Great work yall
I hope nothing happens to Weasel in season 2! He's my favorite one!😭
Take care you three! More DC content thank you ❤
Them killing Nina made me completely uninterested in season 2 because if I just wanted to watch the slaughter team at work there are a dozen other shows doing that right now.
Be safe guys! ❤
Feel like Waller should know who clayface is but Great finale regardless
I'm just glad the princess died, because I was worried it was going to continue to next season and I HATE those shows that keep reusing the same plots and returning villains with no real resolution!😂
I am hoping I just missed it in the past, does Blue Beetle happen to still be in this new universe? Or are we not sure? Really enjoyed that one and was hoping to see more of it.
HER NAME WAS NINA!
Loved Creature Commandos. Can't wait for season two. Superman next baby!!!
Hey guys, just to be careful. Take care of yourselves and worst case scenario, we wait a little while for you to come back online. All three of you guys your safety is more important.
Have you got any plans to react to my adventures with superman ?
I don't know if it's just me, but Gemworld is all over Ilana's office.
I was thinking the same thing. Her soldiers also are called the amethyst knights.
I still don’t quite understand if clayface killed the doctor after she confirmed what Circe said or before or what the princess was really up to.
Could be after as the point was to make it seem that the doctor’s opinion was wrong
@@BlueBlazeKing I guess that makes sense. I guess tho why would they assume that Flagg or anyone else would investigate
Clayface became the professor after she spoke to Waller and convinced her Circe was telling the truth, that's why her personality was different and why she pronounced Themiscyra differently.
@@extracheddar they knew flag would investigate because the princess started a relationship with him to get him to be emotionally invested in her and be against anything they find out from Circe.
i feel like there should’ve been at least one more episode leading to this one. everything just felt rlly abrupt.
story of Nina and the outcome really made me upset with how Gunn wrote her.
NOT YET...
How do we know for sure that Nina doesn't the power to regenerate.
@williebeauford8677 That Mummy in new team is khalis, in comics he regenerates nina
This one hurt me
Sad finale. Overall, it was an excellent season.
Watch SEVERANCE PLEASEEEE
I thought King Shark died? I know this is a new universe but it's also a continuation of The Suicide Squad and Peacemaker
@@fuzzyotterpaws4395 so did people not finish watching the movie because we legit see King Shark leave on the helicopter with Ratcatcher and Bloodsport
I am weasel!!!
My girlfeiend is always commenting on how the four of us could be brothers... i would be down af to audition to help review ALL of the shows!
I think the reason why this finale doesn't work for me, is that all the conflicts in the episode could have been avoided if people talked to each other. Also, all the reasons why people weren't talking to each other seemed contrived for the sake of the plot.
Shank shank shank
Nina kill count: 0 😢😢😢
Nina💔

Glad you are OK! And Conan by candlelight! You are hardcore, by Crom!!!!
❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤
Kinda bummed they fridged Nina. Stay classy, JG
Sorry Agustin usually agree with ya. Prisoners fighting the fires is justice for taking away from society. At least they can try and do some good after taking away. This is "bad guys" filling people's agenda who think they're right.
The princess wasn't very knife in this episode... (ba dum tssss)
This episode felt rushed honestly, imo. Almost like DC said they couldn't do an eight episode run and would only front the bill for seven.
My rank for the season 1:
C-
I liked the show but it felt a bit too needlessly dark in places (I get it, "humans are the real monsters" yaddayadda)
