    Dude, I lived and worked in Los Angeles for a long time... All I can say about people : Any country will have shady people. The main thing is that, it doesn't cover majority of the people in the Phils. There are a lot os a-holes in LA or any place in the US as well, but hey, there's a lot of good people as well. so that criteria of shady people speaks for any country or people int he world... as the saying goes , " in every basket of fruit, there will always be a rotten one." But I am to ask what country to choose because of people, I would bw proud to say and choose Phils.... just saying.. Less a-holes, more work and profit dfor people like you.

    I agree with what you’ve said about your impressions about filipinos and the Philippines! I can say also that everywhere in the world, there’s always those good and bad people (workers). I worked with different people here in the US and I found good and bad, hardworking and hardly working people, complainers and those just silent type or say-nothing against others, friendly and those that don’t care about their jobs and others. I’ve encountered a lot of different types and kinds of people in the US. But the Philippines still the best place where you can expect respectful, hardworking and friendlier people!! 👍

No, we are just more considerate knowing that foreigners do not know enough of our culture and its nuances. We also appreciate that you took a time of your life to come and visit our country considering there are other countries to visit. We also by nature respectful, generous and hospitable. But fact is, everywhere in all countries there are bad apples. So be cautious!

    Anywhere in the world there's always a bad side. There's no perfect country or a person, you can't live the life that has no problem and when it comes to clothing if you want cheaper then go to Divisoria, Baclaran or Tutuban mall cheaper than 20 dollars, don't go to a mall where they taxed your clothing so high...When making friends try to loosen up or be a lil bit open because when Filipino see a foreigner they will think that you're not approachable and don't be just negative all the time...Don't expect the Philippines same as in the U.S...

    • @WatchCaliforniaExpat
      @WatchCaliforniaExpat  5 місяців тому

      Thank you for sharing your thoughts about this. Not everyone in the Philippines lives in Manila to be able to travel to Divisoria, etc but I understand your point, there are more mura places to find clothes in the Philippines. What I was mentioning is that foreigners should be aware that some of the clothes they are used to being cheaper are more mahal in the Philippines than their country. I definitely don't expect the Philippines to be the US and I appreciate most of the differences.

      I would say, only 20% of Pinoy food are sweet. I can easily think of 50 dishes that are not sweet. There are 3 major regions in the Philippines.. Luzon, Visayas and Mindanao. Take for example our famous adobo dish. It will be cooked and seasoned differently, depending on what region or province you are living in. 😊

      I'm filipino myself but I don't like sweet food, like adobo mixed with sugar, I'm from Negros Oriental living in USA I went to the place here where you can buy filipino food, and I don't like their sweet adobo and most of the food mixed with "patis/fish sauce" seasoning . I guess it's depend on the region.

    I'm surprised about your negative view of making friends with other expats. I've found the opposite during my 7 years in Thailand. I've found it much easier to meet and connect with other expats. First of all, I am meeting people from all walks of life that I would never have met in my social circle in the US (San Francisco Bay Area). Of course that means you will meet some weird people that you don't want to associate with but just move on. We all have in common the expat experience that connects us. Also, I have been lucky to find that the Americans I meet have chosen not to divide themselves politically. The rule from the old days, don't talk about religion & politics, seems to have been revived in my experience. I enjoy meeting expats from other countries as well. I am really enjoying the expat community here. I am assuming that expats drawn to Thailand are pretty much the same as those drawn to the Philippines?

    • @WatchCaliforniaExpat
      @WatchCaliforniaExpat  5 місяців тому +1

      I appreciate you sharing your experience Marty. I think different countries attract different types of expats, and I'm seeing in the Philippines, different locations in the Philippines also attract different types of expats. I've met more expats that I connect with in 4 months in Davao City than I did in 4 years in Cebu City--but I'm grateful for a few close friends I've met that are expats in Cebu. I have only visited Thailand a couple times and before he died recently in Thailand my Dad had been living there with his wife from Thailand, so I can't compare too accurately about expats in both countries, but there seem to be some similarities between expats being drawn to both and some differences. Though I think different personalities of expats are drawn to different locations in Thailand same as the Philippines. For example, I'm drawn to Bangkok, other expats to Pattaya, and expats like my Dad were in Sattahip.

    There are two things in a country that make the cost of living in that country to be cheap,, food and housing or rent. The reason why foreigners say the cost of living in the Philippines or Southeast Asia is cheaper than in western countries are because food and rent a house or condos. Clothes, electronics, cars, ect are things that we don't buy every day or month. But everyday we have to buy food and every month we have to pay rent. So food and housing are determining factors if a country cost of living in high or cheap

    • @JoeyZee-vs4kr
      @JoeyZee-vs4kr 5 місяців тому +5

      @davemarshall9925 John is balanced and he's telling the truth. Dave, I wonder where you live in the Philippines or whether you're an expat or sexpat. It really depends on what type of personality you have. Filipinos are great with foreigners who are jolly but if they find you ANNOYING, you'll feel very quickly that they don't want you. It's best if you just return to where your original place is because you won't feel great in this place.
      If you've lived long enough in the Philippines, vigilante justice was very common before in the South. They don't go to court to settle things up but just gives you a kind of "sucker punch" and it's a type that you won't be able to recover.
      Remember, Magellan was killed in the Philippines. If it were a fair fight -guns with guns, they would have been all wiped out on their first landing. I think there's still people who live in this world who look highly of themselves but if you listen to them, they are really stupid. I only noticed it very recently when I visited an expat video and boy, those old guys are truly stupid. Sorry for that Dave. There's really cases that stupid people look at geniuses as crazy, not knowing that the problem is on them. 😊

      I understand. It also depends where you are living here. In Davao City where I am its very clean, and in many province areas its not crowded. But certainly there are crowded and dirty places like you mention too.

    You made alot of complaints about Philippines and if this country did not meet your expectations why would you stay and have stayed for 5 years? You should have left long time ago…it seems like you are closed minded the fact that you have a hard time adjusting the kind of life living in the Philippines you should leave and find another place that will meet your expectations

      I love the Philippines and Filipinos. I don't think you've watched many of my videos.
