@@rhcerce ... The man just oozes greatness, no matter how old he is. I’ve seen him “bust out” often on The Voice UK leaving the audience & his fellow judges absolutely awestruck ✋️😁🤚
It was about a prisoner who was about to be executed. He was dreaming about his “mama and papa” and the “green, green grass of home. “Then I woke and looked around me. There were 4 gray walls that surround me. I realize: I was only dreaming.” Then, he woke up and realized that he was in a prison cell.
My grandmother passed away many years ago. My uncle Carl sang this song at her funeral service. The service was held in the church I grew up in, Cash Creek Baptist Church. She always loved to hear her son sing this song. Each time I hear this song, it brings me back to that service. It was in the summer, the church was packed, the oscillating fans on the walls, half dozen wasp flying around, the older women fanning themselves with the funeral home fans. All though the old church burned down and a newer building stands in it’s place, I can still see that vision when I hear this song. Thanks you.
This is about a prisoner that is about to die (surrounded by 4 grey walls, wakes from a dream, and the priest (Padre) walks him to his death). Very beautiful and sad song Check out George Jones "He Stopped Loving Her Today"
The song does have a reminiscence feel to it...sad but soothing and I assume that is how someone being taken to their death would want to feel...a calm...soothing.
@@DrewsClues I really like your take on the song... focusing on the acceptance and comfort the man in the story found in thinking of home and knowing that indeed he was finally going home. Tom's voice expressed that so soothingly.
He is brilliant, My family and I were back in the Welsh Valleys 7 years ago, my mum was from not far away from where Tom was born, her and dad got married in the village mum was born, we all went to scatter their ashes in the stream near the church they were married in. This song always reminds me of that say. ❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️
Mommy Drew... The thumbnail says “he’s still got it”... My response to that is “HE’S ALWAYS HAD IT” ✌️😎✌️ Sir Tom is so revered in the world of music that he isn’t just an icon... He is so many steps PAST being an “icon” as he is in a class all by himself ✊️😄👌. It’s always a treat listening to this great man sing. Thankyou so much ❤️🤗❤️
@@DrewsClues ... I pride myself on “calling it like I see it” & considering his status in world music, I’d have to say I’m right on the money about Sir Tom ☝️😉👌
I see you're enjoying our Sir Tom Jones, you've got loads of live music and albums too go through you can find him on all social media platforms, have a look at Sir Tom on The Voice UK he's one of the coaches and also his fellow Welsh singer Dame Shirley Bassey between them they've sold over 300 million records and around 130 years of showbiz between them,Dame Shirley has also just bought out another album age 83 and Sir Tom new one when he was 80 he's just turned 81 and the music is very different again
Had the pleasure of seeing Sir Tom in Vegas in 1978. He was in his prime and will never forget it! Handsome & sexy body moves!! I was only 24, but loved him since 60's!
His songs are great to singalong to, this one maybe the most. If i were on The Voice, i might even choose it. He sings as well as this over 10 years on.
As an Irish kid in the 70/80's i thought this was about Ireland, we are associated with the colour Green. I was a kid and didn't know who Tom was and certainly didn't know he was Welsh. Have you listened to Tom Jones and Jennifer Hudson - This is A Man's World
He turned 81 this year if you can believe it. Still a good looking man. You also need to listen Engelbert Humperdinck singing You're the Other Woman & I'm the Other Man. Plz listen to this song. It won't let you down.
Tom is from Wales. There is a strong tradition of male voice choirs in Wales. Can I suggest you listen to Treorchy Male Voice Choir singing a Welsh language song called Myfanwy
Ja, he is awaiting his execution - dreaming of his home, he wakes up, in jail - the four grey walls that surround me - outside, there’s a guard and a sad old padre, arm in arm, we’ll walk at daybreak…..again, I’ll touch the green, green grass of home…as they lay me, ‘neath the green, green grass of home…It’s incredibly sad, it gives me goosebumps, and brings me to tears. Thank you 🙏
I know that when they sing about green grass of hope in the 60tis / 70tis they meant something else 🙈 here we call it weed . i'am from Holland so maybe i'am wrong hahaa. Goerge Bakker whit little green bag i know for sure. Haha❤ jacco
Lady please, if you listen to the lyrics, this song can not bring memories of your growing up, unless you have seen yourself in a cell, surrounded by 4 gray walls and about to wallk, arm in arm with a sad old padre to your execution.
And what do you know? It is not only the words of a song that triggers memories…it times and melodies as well. Many people are in cells that have no walls…don’t you know this…it is only the privilege in life who are unable to see this. Quite being so fast to judge…we have too much of this is the world today.
