  • The Oztent RS-1 Swag retails for $500 and the RS-1S King Single Cot for $150. I got them both during the Black Friday deal for $585. I had been looking at these for months and finally decided to do it. Pretty big sticker shock but now that it's over i'm very happy about it. Yes the bags are HUGE but since I only car camp that's really no concern of mine. I love how it looks and functions and like I said, I've never slept better outside. I think in time and without forgetting to pack things and not having to move stuff around to make sure it's in frame when filming I could have this up and down in under 4mins. You could also skip the sway bars, skip the awning, barely attach the tent to cot and probably be closer to 2mins. If I was moving a lot I'd probably skip the bags even because these things by themselves are still smaller than my old setup. All in all I'm very happy, excited to get this thing perched on some cliffs in the near future!

    Awesome review! I had the same kinda issue in my suv regarding the 2nd row not folding completely. Simple solution is to remove 2nd row seats out of vehicle, cut 1/2" plywood to go from the Hatch and over hang where seats used to be and literally one wooden leg to hold up plywood from the floor. It's been great night sleeps in deep griz country.

    This tent set is the bomb! It was incredibly well thought out and designed. So glad you included a shot of yourself sitting up inside with your legs hanging over the side of the cot; that's a very big plus for me because I want to be able to do that. Well, the whole kit is a bit pricey and bulky storage-wise but worth it.

    The best part was when your gear bags started rolling down the hill! Nice little tent. Your probably the first Utuber to present the downsides of sleeping in one’s vehicle! Seems like everyone is building out their truck or suv.

    • @BRollOffroad
      @BRollOffroad  2 роки тому +1

      thanks! and yea there are pros and cons to every setup. vans are great for it but i didn’t like SUV or truck. with the truck bed setup the drawers are a pain to access in bed. also the bed was the entire area so there was nowhere to put anything when 2 people bring in small bags, take off jackets etc. life changes have changed my rig as well but my gf quit her job and will be available weekends again so i’m going to need to change again.

    • @flyingcat2054
      @flyingcat2054 2 роки тому +1

      @@BRollOffroad yes, that’s what I thought about the truck bed too. If I was traveling alone I could make do with the truck bed, Id use a cot and diy canvas or tarp over all, and easy to collapse if need to drive the truck, though I need to accommodate my spouse too. I guess he can sleep underneath the truck. 😀

    • @BRollOffroad
      @BRollOffroad  2 роки тому +1

      LOL!
      the truck bed setup would’ve been 10x better if i had a pass-thru to the cab which my topper did not. if i could’ve shoved stuff through the tiny window into the cab that would’ve been huge… these are the tiny things that can ruin everything haha. seems small but when you’re putting your shoes on a 3rd time to go into the cab and it’s 20° out and you haven’t even warmed up from the last time- yea, really wish we held out for a pass thru haha.

    • @flyingcat2054
      @flyingcat2054 2 роки тому +1

      @@BRollOffroad 😀 never thought about the pass through. Good tip. If I ever venture into truck bed camping I will be sure to consider that. I just haven’t been able to decide on any kind of truck set up for one reason or another, like space, or setting up/taking down/tying up the truck, but seems like a truck should be a bonus in camping somehow.🤨 I’ve been looking for a used tall cap, but it’s hit or miss. A van would be the best choice, but I only have the Ranger truck to work with. I sold all my tents with the poles that have to be assembled and guided through thin nylon tents that don’t breath and let too much in light. Didn’t like folding a12’x12’ cabin tent back up, that’s if it’s dry too! Don’t like the ground tarp, tent floor thing etc, dirty, sweeping, if it’s dry too, but I still like the outdoors and getting away, not sure if the tent cot style would be easier on me.

      it does take a few minutes but it is easy. if i get to camp late there are a lot of steps you can skip… no anti-sway bars on the cot, if you’re getting right in no real need to attach tent to cot, leave awning rolled up, no rear window… that all adds up to 25 unnecessary steps and can save a lot of time. everything still in good shape, just had 2 friends in town and one slept on the cot in my office for 4 days, said it was great.

    Say 6" off the floor.
    Such as the desert walker cot to be specific. I'm 5.5 180 lbs
    The idea of cold wind blowing under my cot is not desirable so I'm thinking a cot inside will be better

      totally, i think i could get 10-12 of my old 2 man tents in this bag haha. the thing is if i’m in a position to use this it means i’m alone and have lots of space so no big deal. during regular driving/filming i actually have more room than my old bed setup, even if it was folded up. i couldn’t be happier, glad you like yours!

      @@paulh8515 Agree about the packed size. I have a Toyota Corolla and according to the dimensions given on the spec sheet the packaged tent won't fit in my trunk or backseat. However, the backseat can fold down a bit to allow large cargo to pass through from the trunk so I'm going to try that and measure it to see if I can get it to fit that way. I hope so because this is about the best car camping setup I've seen for one person.

    Great video. Do you think that the cot could accumulate and hold water during rain? I'm worried that the exposed sides of the tent will get rained on, then that water will run down the sides and onto the cot, sitting in between the cot and the tent. Have you experienced anything like that?

    • @BRollOffroad

      thanks! i was in mild rain the the cot was dry when i packed it up so no. i did have the same concerns as you though seeing that most other options have a skirt that goes over the cot, after a little research i found a response from Oztent saying the tub floor definitely won’t leak (it IS very thick) and the cot is made to have water pass through and will never pool. good enough for me haha.
