- Why does the Korg microKORG make a great first synth? Along with it being the longest-running synth in production & still available for purchase today, the microKORG is lightweight, compact, has 128 programs & it's an incredibly intuitive synth that can be battery 🔋 operated! It even includes a mic for the built-in vocoder 👌 The 5 knobs at the top do so much more than just adjust your cutoff, resonance, attack, release, and tempo which allows for immense possibilities for sound creation & design

Don't tell UK customers that it's under £5
Literally lost my mind for a second 😂
@@TimmyTheSnail bargain
Lol, i am german and did think the same... I don't need this, because I have such a huge amount of Software and can generate every possible sound, but for under 5 pounds I would instanly take one, no matter what that days exchange Rate was... 😂😂
Could you imagine physically paying with 118,533.8 marks 😂
Took me embarrassingly long to arrive at what y'all were talking about 🥴
"making sound design as easy as possible" is bending the truth quite a bit 😂
Still, a great synth! Regret selling mine.
“Easy and intuitive” hahah uhhhh maybe I had a different synth or something because this thing was confusing as hell to learn on, knowing very little about synths at the time.
I have one of these, still use it for some of my current recordings. Very basic but it can produce interesting sounds. Sometimes I'll it run through external pedals to give a wider range of soundscape potential.
😱 my first synth was a Maplin 3800 which I had to build myself 🥵 i wish i still had it ☹
I don't know about the Micro Korg being under 5 pounds mine was £220 😅 and i love it 🥰
5 pounds in weight
they need to make these synths with more groove shot samples and loops like you will find in the phone apps. partial ballads, break beats and orchestrations too
I accidentally fried my MicroKORG by plugging it into the wrong AC adapter. Still pissed about that! I definitely prefer fully analog, semi-modular synths. Namely because I like having all the parameters visibly exposed at a glance (vs dialing through a digital preset).
Great synth still! My first board and I really hope I can have it repaired at some point.
I am also looking for something with a lot of ethereal options, like what is being played here. is it a good option for that?
Damn.
And the SE wavev thing we waited years for isn't
I can´t fixx my keybed . I dissasembly it, clean it and 1 moth after some keys get muted again
wouldn't a micofreak be a cheaper better option ?
Intuitive it’s not. I know, it was my first synth.
Maybe your intuition just isn't that strong.
@@superultrathanksmom3845 I usually ignore trolls, but to you I suggest google what intuitive means and then try a MicroKorg.
Why does everyone say that it’s hard to program??
Because it has the screen of a 1980's alarm clock
@@g_dub3456 lol
because it has only 5 knobs to edit parameters, which causes a TON of menu-diving, which itself is not an issue. The real issue comes when you have to do said menu-diving in a 3 digit, 7 segment display from an alarm clock
€450
Depressing menstrual sounds.. Get something sharp cool and awesome by Korg/Roland from the 90s
This video wasn’t very informative at all.
Let's talk about your looks
"intuitive" lmaooooo
ikr I feel like I'm stabbing in the dark when editing it manually.
Absolutely great synth, but i agree with you here
It’s the same engine as the MS2000, and that’s a killer synth!!
The MS2000 sells for a similar price to a new Microkorg SE… Obviously they’re all old and might need awkward SMD caps replacing though.
@@Jonathan_Doe_editing sounds with ms2000 is from another world. I remember how I (and all others) hated microkorg for this reason.
A Beast in Small package
You're out here trying to sell me another synth and I'm still waiting on the volca keys i bought in December.
Damn, you could've bought one used for $60 and be happy already.
Where the fuck did you buy yours from? I bought mine from Sweetwater and had it in two days.
@@HipixOFFICIAL yeah kinda sounds like a distributor problem unless they got straight from korg, I guess
Oof I was lucky to get a basically brand new one on reverb for msrp and free shipping, not to brag or anything 🤷
Better get it back in blood
Dang, the comments are going crazy. I actually like this synth as a beginner option. This was my first synth. It absolutely has it’s limits, but I think it is a great starting point.
Maybe in the 00s it is a great first synth, but the UI and sound is easily outclassed by innumerable other synths. Even Korg's own Minilogue XD outshines the Microkorg as a beginner option.
Hell, I bought one 20 years later, as sometimes I just like minimalism and being more constrained. With all the hardware and software I have, it’s often option paralysis! 🤘😉👍
@@milk_bathIt’s still a very good synth and you won’t find many studios without one. It’s a classic!
Mine too, yes it does lol, but, yes it is! Agreed! I got mine about 20yrs ago. It was the synth that I used when my jamband-electronica project really took off. I now actually understand & can use a real multi oscillator analogue synth, but... back 15yrs ago: I tried to use a real analogue... & all I know, is I got it so out of tune & couldn't even get a note out of it 😂😂😂
I've come a loooong way in the synth dept. Always Be Learnin'!!
@milk_bath except the minilogue xd is an actual analog synth, & if you're a beginner & don't know about ASDR & LFOs & bla bla bla... you'll be a very cornfused individual lol. So, even though it was my 1st synth (20 years ago) ... I agree there are many other synths nowadays that are digital analogue emulators & have a lot of features that they just plain old left off the micro korg. It's funny, my ex wife wrecked mine years ago, & they quit making them in '22, I wanted to get another one, I looked & looked, & finally found 1 of only FOUR new ones remaining in the US anyways... so, I re bought it... and, yeah; let's just say things have come a long way in 20yrs 😂😂😂
I do enjoy A31 without the arpeggiator running. And there's a couple chill pads & strings: I use it to make background samples for my house music & sample it into the maschine plus. I use much better stuff when I play live lol.
"Intuitive"???
You're crazy! .....I had one for a while and it drove me nuts.
Yeah, I can't figure it out😅
Exactly. Its a great synth, seriously, but intuitive for beginners? Nah
... 😶 Arturia MicroFreak. Just sayin'.
its a very bad synth for starters with all that menu diving
I miss mine, bought it in 2004. I had to make a trade for it years ago and never got another.
It was my 1st synth. 20yrs ago lol. I've since bought many a korg synth: my current favorite; minilogue xd. Also the wavestate is cool... I like the prologue, but the xd is almost as cool. Gosh.. I have a pile of korgs lol... Kronos, krome, hell I HAD THE OG: The Korg O1-W Music Workstation. With the 3.5 floppies lolol. It was like $5k+ in um... 199...4? 1995? I know it was a LOT of $$ for the time! Love ya Korg; user unfriendly as you are 😂
Y'all make the best!
Owned mine for 15 years or so now and I’m still in love and discovering new features
Used the MicroKorg for many years playing shows for Freezepop. Was small, rugged, and sounded great!
omg are were in freezepop ??? i love them, less talk more rokk is such a bop
@@uglyaniimals -- Glad to hear you dig the song! yeah, I founded the band back in '99.
Always appreciated the love you all had for the Yamaha QY series :)
Thanks! I got a lot of mileage out of that one box :) @@bayleybaybey
do you know how to connect the synth to computer? cause it doesnt have a USB chord
This was one of my truly first synths. I have 2 of them nowadays and will never let them go.
This is the first micro korg I've seen that the owner still has the vocoder mic haha
Erm, I love you guys but whilst the microKorg is many things, “intuitive” is definitely not one of them. I wouldn’t recommend this (or the latest one) as a good first synth.
i have her right in front of me, been a fav since day one, PS shes a beast with BASS
Well, ahaha, certainly sorry to say this, amazing what crap she serves up here, both in content and acoustically, but since she has such a cute face I finished watching the video🫡
The initial patches were triesome over programmed and cheesy. I know several micro owners and they are all clueless at synths. Buy a Behringer SH101 clone if you want to learn a classic synth. The microkorg is a menu diving nightmare and was only any use with the admittedly useful free sysex editor. The 1st demo should be how to turn everything off except a straight up saw wave.
Yeah no, the words "Intuitive" and "Micro Korg" should never be named in the same sentence xD There's a reason why this thing has a Software programmer to actually allow you using this thing like a REAL Synthesizer. Personally i'd rather go with a Korg Minilog nowdays. THAT one is truly intuitive :)
Why the satanic pyramid tattoo
:D And then she also looks like an abused barby doll.
think it's a requirement to be in the music business it just costs the price of your soul
this grandpa of a synth belongs in a WWII museum
Bro it came out in 2002...
my boy had one of these laying around and didnt use it. sold it to me for $120. i cleaned up the dirt on the inside of the keys and this thing runs like butter. havent really used it yet but i know there will come a time where the work i put out using it will outweigh anything i paid for it lol
and shity pots and keyboard. and if you use battery - they leaks and corroded all inside
I didn't care for the interface. "Easy as possible"? It was convoluted to get around. There's much better out there, including things from this very dev. I gave mine away.
I was SOOO HAPPY when I sold mine🌟 Super uncomfortable keys, only 4 voice polyphony, contorted complicated way of changing parameters….
Roland SH201 is a much better beginner synth. I hate the layout of microKORG
Was my first synth 18 years ago. It's ok, I wouldn't hate on it, but I sold it 16 years ago. :D If you're looking for a first synth I would rather suggest the arturia microfreak. About same price if I'm not mistaken, but so much more possibilities.
This is the way.
This is one of the "least" intutive synths for sound design. Great for playing live, although the keybed is 100% trash.
lol I love mine but you've just described why the MicroKorg is NOT a good first synth.
First thought: No way this hast been out for 20 years.
Second thought: Fck i am old
I have one and I would say its biggest draw back is having only 4 poly notes.
And if you make a 2nd timbre then it only has 2 poly notes.
Ooooo this girl has 1995 Angelina Jolie Hackers vibe
ok, I've learned something.. That is $5 s
I’ll never be able to comprehend how people do anything other than tweak the presets… Guess I bought the wrong instrument 😂
She has different variation than mine. The sinth sounds good to me. You don't have much control over the sound unless you go to your computer and make the patches there which kinda sucks.
microKORG was my first synth around 15 years ago and still using it to this day :3
I have a question, how can i do that it sound? Like, can i conect to an amplifier or a speaker or it have built in speakers
all resprect-- but this is all copied from other people.. weird
Hi, how do I record a song? or record my voice and use my voice as a sound? thanks for your videos
i played it for hours, but never used it in a song xD
Annoying little piece of kit but ill never forget my first snyth
I'd go for a Minilogue XD instead
Can i have your job
Aphex twin confirmed??
Can you plug it into a macbook pro from 2021?
Yeah, they literally go for well over 200!
Yeah menu diving is really intuitive.
Under 5 lbs?
it's been 20yr and still no usb port?
That review was about as deep as the machines capabilities. LOL :)
I would love to play my MicroKorg more. But not having the sound editor updated for newer MacOS is pretty frustrating.
Virtualize the older one.
Cute girl pat benatar vibe
What’s a good first synth to get in todays time?
I use to have one….Someone stole it :(
👑 KING KORG
did I hear it's below £5
This is the first person to ever describe the MicroKorg as intuitive! Great synth otherwise though
Yup, and you fuq tons of money to buy it 😢
Can I create rythm with it?
I've played harder better faster stronger on this thing with the vocoder. It's great.
Kids these days…
I learned nothing
Mine is the Mini moog
price skyrockets
where can I order
Easy? Lol
Still have it albeit with 2 broken keys and broken tempo knob
Lies
still going strong
My first synth was Moog CDX. Korg easy. Roland, to this very day is 'What in the actual......?'
Well we're not all rich, ya know...
Sold it for drugs at my lowest point. Stay sober kids
Are you clean now?
Nice demo, it is very portable for the range of sounds possible. Just sold mine, after having it for many months (so I could afford getting a Modwave) . . . but also, cool tattoos, couldn't help but notice.
It's that tycho sound I love so much
Still have mine from like 2007
Same here. Got it after I saw it in the cd jacket for The Neptune’s Presents: Clones. Pharrell worked that joint.
I have to disagree, of course this is a commercial so.. the editing tables are somewhat convoluted.
It’s a great synth for the presets and vocoder , no denying that, but for synthesis it’s pretty poor.
I think a better first synth would be more like a behringer poly D. Any synth that has one function = one button is preferable.
The problem for beginners is the menu diving making it much harder to build a grand overview of the signal chain inside their head. As crappy as the Roland Gaia is, its knob per function makes it a better starter synth. The Arturia Brute range also qualify. The microKORG still sounds lovely. I have an OG MS2000 so not trying to be negative.
I love how the traditional design hasn't changed over to a modern concept.
I eventually bought a discounted one before covid whenever I'd pick up my roommates who worked at Guitar Center and have never regretted it.
I like how it also kind of looks like something Otacon would've designed for Big Boss to lure guards towards his unforgiving tranquilizer shots and judo take downs 😅.
The Microkorg was great but now that it's almost 600 CAD there's so many other options that are only a bit more for someone's first synth, Arturia Minifreak, Minilogue XD, etc.
The ARP company created great instruments. Still love the Odyssey very much .
I always tell people the micro korg is a great first synth... even low iv never actually had one but iv used them
I went with last model Korg Microkorg Xl Plus as i found really intuitive compared to this one 1st version
I absolutely loved it I had one for $400 new and it was amazing I will never go to heaven and digital synth again ever. There's some digital tones in there that are okay but the analog engines make it so worth the money my play some ol Roland from the 80s that was like $900 new back some years ago that is that the Microcenter is every bit as good as that. Even compares to some other famous synthesizers some of the towns at my son likes from some of the move since or also honest little cord contraption. I had my stolen along with my Fender stratocasters and Ivan has btb bass. So all my best year has been stolen and I've been unwell and not much work for a felon as it is. Tough times I can't afford any more gear I would love to replace this cord more than anything.
I was actually going to get this as my first hardware synth, but ended up getting the Minilogue XD instead. Still a dope synth though!
Been around but 20 years 😂 Fuck, this makes me feel old
