On "My Car Story" we're in Iola WI on 7-7-23.
We're looking at a 1969 Ford Torino GT Fastback in Indian Fire Paint. The car is equipped with a 351 CI V8 engine, with an automatic transmission.
The car's Owner is Bob Quast. Bob’s ordered this car and he’s the original Owner. Bob shares when he was ordering it, that he was recently married so he wanted the car to have looks with the fastback, and had to consider budget too. He’s been an amazing Caretaker of this car.

Super low miles and in pristine condition. Very well kept one owner car. As soon as the hood was opened I thought to myself, "I bet he wishes now that he got the power breaks.". My first car was a 1968 Chevy BelAir 4 door. And, yeah, I remember no power brakes, no power steering, shoulder belt on the ceiling, and the high beam on the floor button. Also, columb shift manuals. I had several of those, in cars and trucks. But the BelAir was a 2sp power glide behind a I-6 250 w/a mono-jet carb, with a posi rear. It was used when I got it, but still had the bias ply tires under it and on the spare. (So, the spare in the trunk of that Torino was doubtedly the original, seeing as bias-ply was the norm in 68. Likely why he didn't answer that question. He was saving face for you, or maybe he didn't remember, being 55 years ago).
Great video. Beautiful find. And a big thanks to Mr and Mrs Bob for taking such great care of that beautiful piece of Americana.❤

I bought a used Red 1969 fastback Ford Torino with a pure white interior in the early seventies . My wife at the time was driving a 71 Pontiac Lemans with a 350 CID in it . Those were the days .
Congratulations to this gentleman for keeping this car all these years 👍

Beautiful car! Amazing condition for an original survivor. Bob has done a wonderful job of tacking care of it. Aside from the Mustang and Cougar, the Torino was my favorite model line. In the fall of 1968, I went with my dad to get the heater repaired on his 66 Comet, and we looked at the new cars in the showroom. They had a Torino GT in the in the showroom. I fell in love with the car. My dad was impressed enough with it that we sat down with the salesman he usually delt with and negotiated a possible sale. Unfortunately, that sale didn't happen as my dad couldn't get the price with trade that he wanted. The next year, we got a 69 Mercury Montego, the counterpart to the Fairlane line that the Torino was a part of. Once again, a great video, Lou, I enjoy your videos they bring back a lot of memories of the golden years of the automobile.

Another great car I haven't finished the video yet but had to stop and say I absolutely love the hitch (3:32). We hold these automobiles from this era in such high regard today, albeit for a good reason. But back then (I am told I'm 43) that these were "just" regular cars back then. So whenever I see a hitch or something similar it reminds me that these were "Just" cars back then. I was told a story from an Old Timer that was a mason by trade that said he used to use a 68GTX with a hitch/trailer to haul his equipment around. I enjoy all old cars I hope this comment did not come off disrespectful to anyone it was an observation/perspective. Another great video, another great Owner, and another great car!

How good did this 1969 Ford Torino GT Fastback look in that Indian Fire color in full sun! In addition, all its chrome decorations are very attractive, such as those three rear inclined vertical stripes, along with the long black stripe that runs through and ends with the Torino logo. A simple, but attractive, and functional interior in black (a good detail, putting on the floor mats a relief of a GT40, winner of the endurance competitions at that time). As always, the brochures and manuals of the time (and in full color!) in the trunk are very striking. Congratulations to Mr. Quast, for having this Torino in such optimal condition, while, giving us a magnificent ride, he remembered unforgettable anecdotes from yesteryear! Best regards, Lou!

Oh, my, Lou! What do you have for us today? This brings back memories as my Dad ordered a 1968 Ford Torino GT fastback in Gulfstream aqua with the black c-stripe back in 1967. His was one of the first made and it had the low back bucket seats without the head rests which were required I believe on either late Dec 1967 or January 1968 builds. He loved that car and ultimately had to sell. His was only a 302 but it rumbled when he pulled into the driveway nonetheless (stock). I really appreciate all you do with your channel and you offer such a wide range of vehicles. Your channel is a must watch one!

I still have mine. A 1968 Ford Torino I ordered new. The day I picked it up, I drove over to our hangout to show my buddies. While there, in walked a girl with a birthday cake for her girlfriend. I didn't know her, but talked her out of a piece of cake for a ride in my new car. Two years later we got married. Our daughter and son both used my car for their get-a-way car at their weddings. As of today, I feel very lucky because my wife is still baking for me and I am still giving her rides in that same car.

@@loucostabile We live in Fortville, Indiana. Our car is what I call "respectable" It's not restored but kept as good as we could afford. I did have an issue with mice about 6 years ago that destroyed the interior. I filed a Rodent Damage Claim with our insurance, State Farm and they paid for a complete interior job from Vails Classic Cars in Greenfield, Indiana. I have rebuilt the engine 3 times, transmission once and did a paint job back in 1981. Drag raced a couple of weekends. F/S with the 390. Lots of miles driven over the years. Stored in the winter now. Car show last year. Got The Survivor Award Trophy which was the most cherished award at that show.

My father who did everything by the seat of his pants really liked these. Two days before we left on an extended vacation he visited the local Ford dealer to have the gas gauge repaired on our 1966 Fairlane. While there he announced that he would like to trade the 1966 Fairlane for a new 1969 Torino GT fastback. Unfortunately, the dealer didn’t have one in stock so he ended up buying an LTD 4 door hardtop! My mom and I picked it up the next day and the following morning we left on our trip. Nothing like planning.

    Hola Lou, buenas tardes.
Segui adelante. Gracias.

Grew up with a 69 Torino Squire fitted with the hotter 351 (in those days if you wanted something, you could get it, and Dad did). PS, PDB, AC, HD suspension, white with a blue interior = Mom always thought it was the prettiest car we ever had. It didn't make it to my legal driving years, but yeah, I had it out on the road a few times - bad teen. I've looked for another; no luck yet. The GT of course was the iconic model but not as potent usually as the GM and Mopar offerings. Of course the Talledega made a name for itself - though not as much as the Cale Yarborough Mercury Cyclone. Very masculine design, cool dash, but pitiful trunk space on the fastback. They were actually very sensibly sized cars - this was before the 72-76 bloat. Nice ride.

1969 would be the Windsor. The 351 Cleveland wasn't an option until 1970 on the Torinos.

Nice one Lou! I had a '69 Torino formal roof, dark blue with dark blue interior, 351 Windsor 4V, bench seat/column auto, ps, manual disk brakes, and dealer installed under dash a/c, in mint condition with 98,000 miles from an old lady. A great car as a Christmas present at 17 for $1,000 in '83. 🧏‍♂️
