It's been 2 decades since I rode but I might pull the trigger on a used 21 assault 850. I'm getting excited for winter and now I actually want it to snow and won't be mad if it does haha
@@KotaBearTV where abouts are you located? We are as far western NY as you can get (hour southwest of Buffalo) we went out there for my son's sled after I met Rick at snowfest a few years back and he was so cool to my wife and I and answered a million questions I had and took the time to explain everything. Long drive but I think worth it.
I realized I made a mistake for the hand warmers.. the hand warmers stay at a certain temperature on your left is left hand warmer and right is your right hand warmer.. I am sorry for messing that up but enjoy!
The temperature settings are for the grip heaters and thumb heater. The left and right grip heaters don’t have separate temperature set points. But the left and right grip heaters are controlled independently so the heaters can maintain the set temperature. That way the grips stay at the same temp if there’s a crosswind. The thumb heater is also controlled independently to the separate set point.
@@KotaBearTV further clarification here... the left setting is for BOTH the left/right grip heat, and the right setting is for the THUMB heat. Each will stay smack-dab at the temperature setting you've selected automatically - on warm days, freezing days, cross-wind, etc. You just don't have to think about it anymore.
Let me answer some of the questions that came up. 7SDD can communicate with other 7SDD that are close enough with Radio Frequency communications built in. They can even daisy chain to each other to extend the length of radio communications. IF your 7SDD is using a cell phone to communicate to the RideCommand cloud, other riders with the RideCommand app on a Smartphone, can join your group (throught the RideComman cloud) and you can see them, and they can see other app riders in the group. The Trails updates to the 7SDD take less than a minute. New trails updates are made every day during the season. No problem running the sled for that time. The Software hasn't changed from original yet, but when it does, that update will take about a minute. The quick way to cycle thru the diffferent gauge layouts you have setup and the GPS Map display is to use the Back(U-turn arrow) button on the left handlebar control. If you stop your Matryx sled with the Kill switch, and your sled has a battery, the 7SDD gauge stays alive, keeps the GPS Satellite lock, and you can use the gauge to check miles that you have traveled, show others where you plan to go, find Points Of Interest (POI) on the map, click on the POI icon and get phone numbers, hours that they're open and such for dealers, gas stations, restaurants, pit stops. It is way cool! The PIDD (came out in MY15) and does not support group rides. You need to format the USB flash drive in FAT32 format or exFAT format (on your PC), to use with the PIDD.
The 7SDD can use a USB flash drive to exchange waypoints and recorded rides with other 7SDD and with the PIDD
Hey Kotabear good video. The hand and thumb warmers are set to maintain the exact temp you set them to. The left side is the hand warmers set temp and the right is the thumb set temperatures. Nice sled!
Nice video, I love how the screen is so much bigger and so much more advanced over my PIDD gauge. I always set a way point where I park the truck and trailer because you can then go into the settings and turn on the waypoint and it will always show the arrow or direction of travel and the mileage to get to that waypoint. Once it saved our ass when we were coming back in a blizzard and we just followed that line on the screen. Also what’s really cool is everywhere you ride on the trails it will put a different color line on the trail so for example when you were trying to find your way back and you come to a intersection you could see which turn you are supposed to take because if you started riding down the one trail you will see it’s new territory where if you drive down the other trail you will see that you came from that way earlier in the day because it left your track on the screen.
I know on my PIDD gauge there is two separate updates that I can do, one is a map update and the other is a trail update. Apparently the trail updates need to be updated every three months and the base maps only once a year. Both map updates can take up to a half hour on my machine so thank God for a electric start model with a battery because you have to have the key on for a half hour. The only other interesting quirk on my 2018 pidd is that the USB flash drive needed to do the map updates has to be 8 GB or smaller or it won’t update. That is crazy in today’s age because it’s almost impossible to find a USB smaller than 32 GB anywhere. I’m sure they corrected that quirk on the matrix so that you could use any size USB flash drive to update the gauge from the download software on your computer off the polaris website.
Does anybody know if you buy sled with pull start only if the sled has to be running to use gauge. Or does it have a small battery inside gauge like say KTM dirtbikes.
@@KotaBearTV yeah I had a hard time not snow checking again for this year. Just couldn't afford a new sled back to back years!! Still love my old/still new one anyway! Keep up the good work!
Yeah I hear you it has been a struggle thr last couple years but I've made it work but I think I won't be able to make it work next year unfortunately :(
Well done, and I agree with you - I think Polaris has the best gauge. We have the Ride Command GPS display on our General and it's awesome. This is better!
@@KotaBearTV I like it a lot. We use it for trail riding in the summer and snow plowing in the winter, and it does great at both. Seats are excellent, plenty of power, and that Ride Command finds us trails we didn’t know existed.
Side questions, why would the VR1s be more money since people backed out on them? The dealer already has the down payment money wouldn’t they be cheaper?
Ita called supply and demand they will sell them for full retail to make money on them becuase they can get it becuase its a snow check exclusive... dealers don't really make as much money as you think

As far as I know there is no fee and you can not order anymore this year snowcheck ends in April so the only way to get one is if a dealer had a customer back out on them only way to get one but they get top dollar at that point

The group ride feature works without a phone connected. The displays can communicate directly to each other through an antenna on the sled. No cell service required! People can join a ride using the Ride Command app as well if they don’t have a 7S display.
Great walkthrough... This is what I was looking for. Cheers!
