On "My Car Story" we're in the Scottsdale AZ on 12-31-19.
We're looking at a 1960 Chevrolet El Camino Restomod in Blue Paint. The car features a modified LS4 V8 engine.
The car's Owner is Bill Horner. Bill’s had this car since 2018. Bill shares he not really a “Car Guy” however when his Friend offered him the car for $600.00 he saw in his mind what the car could be, and then took the next year and ½ and with some help, and created what you see today.
ENJOY!
Literally the best part about these classic cars: they are an instant friend maker!
I agree, that is the best part of the cars is being a "instant friend maker!" :-)
No need for a garage queen . Put a bunch of money in it , you might as well enjoy it and get every dime out of it . Very nice and tasteful . Thanks for posting .
Hi Bud Lee, Happy to read you enjoy this "Very nice and tasteful" car :-) Thank you for viewing, sharing, and you're welcome on the post, Lou
The lowest production Chevy, now I know why I haven't seen many 60 El Caminos. Fabulous restoration. My favorite color too!
Hi David, Happy to share this rare treat with you, and glad you like the color :-) I like the color too, Lou
Lou I think that's one of the rarest cars that you have interviewed that is just gorgeous
Happy to read you appreciate the rarity of this car :-)
Maybe the owner is not a car guy, maybe he do not know too much about mechanics either, etc...
But he brought a second life to this El Camino and by that, he brought a little joy to the rest of us!
Nice car!
Hi Pablo, Thanks for viewing & sharing you enjoy the 2nd life to this car, Lou
The Chevy El Camino and 4 door hardtop cars roofs for 1959 & 60 are called Flat tops. Thank you Lou.

This was a cool video almost impossible to drive that beautiful El Camino down the street without being stop.
Clearly an "Instant Friend Maker" :-)
Can’t remember when I last saw a 60! Well worth saving this one.
Hi Craig, Glad to read you enjoy this rare treat :-) Lou
I’ve always had a liking of El Camino‘s, thanks for posting this beautiful example.
Glad to read this is one you like :-) Regarding the post, you're welcome.
Lou, you seem to have an endless supply of videos. Thanks!
Hi David, I'm going ok so far, however I'm going to need some Car Friends & Car Shows soon. You're welcome, Lou
A definite crowd pleaser.
You're right :-)
A shade over 14,000 units were made. I've always wanted one, It's my birth year, but have never found one without serious rust! Buying one already finished is kinda expensive, and I've wanted to restore it myself anyway, so thanks for the inspiration and that's a very nice ride.
Hi Leddy Gee, Happy to read this car in your birth year has inspired you :-) Thank you for viewing, sharing, and you're welcome, Lou
A BEAUTIFUL restoration job!!
Happy to read you appreciate the work that went into this car :-)
Holy smokes ... Now thats an incredable example of one mans talent to restore such a dif and a little odd looking ...lol i love the EL CAMINO its always been a fave of mine ... I just always thought the first year they made it ...that it seemed odd how they designed the back window and ledge lol ..i had a 1961 biscayne that had almost that same back window and weird window ledge ....dont get me wrong that EL CAMINO is super sexy ...and a fine example of restore ...thanks Lou for the linc ...this is why i love this channel ....light and love ...
Hi Marcus, Happy to read you enjoy this episode :-) My pleasure sharing with you, and you're welcome, Lou
Droolin' here. That's a car guy's ride! Kudos to Bill Horner for his vision and Lou Constabile for the video!
Hi Mark W, Happy to read you enjoy Bill's work, and a pleasure to share this video with you, Lou
Nice ride, thanks for the video lou. Couldn't think of a better way to start my day. Saturday morning coffee with a good video from lou. Thanks again and have a great day. Bruce from Boston.
Hi Bruce from Boston, Glad you enjoy this rare treat ride with me :-) You're welcome, Lou
Rarest of the rare rides Lou👍. Excellent job Bill for saving this beautiful example of rolling history
Hi X K, Happy to read you appreciate the rarity of this car :-) Lou
It's really great the owner let you wrap up this review with a ride. It should always be the case.
Hi 65283impala, Maybe if the Channel hits "Jay Leno" status sure :-) Until then, if an Owner asks if I'd like to drive it, I gracefully accept :-), Lou
@@loucostabile Montreal may be a bit far for you to swing by and check out a 69 Satellite sport coupe, but if you ever did come by we'd take it for a ride provided the roads are dry :).
Bill thanks for preserving this car.
:-)
Excellent choice of power plant for the 60 L, not too expensive to operate! I love the bench seat. This car is better than new in 1960!

I wanna thank the owner as well as you Lou, great video. I wish my father could have seen this beautiful automobile. Happy motoring.
Hi Mustafa Haboglu, Happy to read you enjoy this episode :-) You're welcome, Lou
Sweet ride, I would for sure have it as a daily driver👍
Hi Paul Hole, Agreed, would be a nice ride to everywhere :-) Glad you enjoy this car, Lou
Very nice , tastefully done. LS engine makes it so reliable and a perfect driver. That El Camino was born Sunstan Copper Poly paint, code 920A. His choice however is also period correct and looks sharp. It's always amazing to see, which this looked only to be a shell without a nose ect , brought back to this result. That is a lot of time money and effort to cross over the finish line. Thanks Lou and to the proud owner, well done.
Hi Skinner Hound, Thank you for viewing, sharing details on the color, and glad to read you like this one, Lou
The iconic Batwing rear end...
Flat & flying :-)
What a beautiful car, never seen one so clean

I can’t remember the last time I saw one of these! I owned a 1960 Biscayne when I was in high school. It was a one owner low mileage car and cost me $600 back then! For a resto rod this is very nice! You got caught having way too much fun again, but that’s OK, because you cause thousands of us to have fun too!! And with many activities on hold, guys like you are super important!! Thanks so much, Lou.
Hi Fred and Debra MacDonald, Happy to read this one brings back memories of your 1960 Chevy. Glad you're along for the ride & having FUN with me too :-) Lou
Great car story Lou 😃and a great way to start a weekend, my uncle had the '59 elCamino and the '59 station wagon in the copper and white color it was neat to see them side by side in the driveway, thanks for sharing and as always "Howdy from Texas 😀"!!
Beautiful car, nice build Bill. I love the dash. Thanks for the ride Lou and Bill. Very neat talking to the ladies and guys. My first car was a black 1959 El Camino that I bought in 1964 at 17 years old. It looked real good, but the drive system was a mechanical piece of junk. I sold it a year later.
HI Randall, Happy to read this car brings back memories of your 1st car :-) Thank you for viewing, sharing, and you're welcome, Lou
Most interesting ! I think this is a fabulous restoration. I like the fact that is unassumingly stock yet rare.
Happy to read you enjoy the build of this car :-)
A really nice El Camino, I also like what he did to make it a daily driver with the engine. The dash and gauges were awesome looking. like you said Lou a friend maker... When you drove off in your Viper i remembered why you said you like blue..... Thanks Lou
Hi Newton, Happy to read you enjoy this daily driver, and thanks for sharing the details you enjoy. You're welcome, Lou
I love it! Bill has quite the car & definitely a "can do" attitude! I understand & respect why the purists feel the way they do, but when you can combine parts & can make it come out looking & running like this one does, you really do get the best of both worlds.
Hi TheGunfighter45acp, Happy to read you "love it!" :-) Lou
Nice car/truck! That’s what I called el caminos and rancheros when I was a little kid, along time ago, back when a car of this year was new or maybe just a couple of years old. The owner did a really nice job keeping the original look and not doing a bunch of customizing bodywork to it.
"Nice car/truck" I like that.
What an outstanding restoration on this '60 El Camino. I think the '59 and '60's were the best looking of all and this one nails it with blue-silver paint, ermine white roof, and my favorite - dog dish style hub caps. I would likely not have done anything different in restoring this beauty including addition of LS engine. So unique and beautiful. Well done guys and thanks.
Hi Bruce H., Happy to read you appreciate the work that went into this build. Thank you for viewing & sharing, Lou
That was one of my favorite my car stories. You guys were obviously having a lot of fun that day.
Happy to read you enjoy this episode with us :-)
Thanks for keeping the videos flowing through tough times..
My pleasure!
Wow, Lou, this one is your best yet. I don't usually go for the resto-mods but this one is a peach, done just right. And you got to drive it :>) Great story thanks for sharing your fun day in the desert.
Hi Rich, High praise for this car & episode :-) My pleasure sharing with you, and you're welcome, Lou
Love it! Too Kool! Great job rescuing that one! 😎👍🇺🇸
Happy to read you "Love it!" :-)
And that right there is a nice 1960 Chevrolet El Camino there
Hi kjchicago1, Happy to read you appreciate this car :-) Thank you for viewing, sharing and I believe you're going to see many more cars on this Channel you'll enjoy. Lou
I don’t normally like restomods, but the car looks amazing! The owner did a great job. Thanks, Lou! Hope you are doing well and staying healthy.
Hi Brian Chappie, Do I hear you opening up that mind set up to enjoy a restomod too :-) NICE! Lou
I had a 60 Brookwood or 2 door wagon. This is the first 60 Camino I have seen !
Hi Jay Morgan, Sounds like you had a fun Wagon :-) Happy to share this rare treat with you, Lou
My favourite car of all time; love the few originals left, but these modifications allow a classic design to endure. Congratulations on a brilliant project, and thanks to you both
Hi Steve, Happy to read this is a car you enjoy :-) You're welcome, Lou
The mid-late 60's Ford Rancheros are station wagon based, also. Probably other years, too, but mine are '69's and that's the only version I can verify. Perch-to-perch housing spacing is three inches narrower on the Wagon/Ranchero than the Fairlane/Torino, and carry 5-leaf springs instead of four. Legally classified as 1/2-ton light trucks, same as F100. Very nice Camino there!
Hi 413x398, Thank you for sharing your knowledge, Lou
Nice Camino! A little modern but not "over the to" Perfect balance.
GREAT VIDEO LOU.
Hi TCT9MM, Happy to read this build has the "perfect balance" :-) Thank you for the kind words on the video, Lou
Awesome. Love 60 El Camino.
Hi Peter Vitti, Happy to read you "Love" this one :-) Lou
Mopar guy here but that Impala elcamino is sweet
NICE !
Looks like you enjoyed taking this for a spin!!
LOTS of FUN :-)
Beautiful '60 ! Thanks for posting Lou !
Hi Rudy, Happy to read you enjoy the looks of this car :-) You're welcome for the post, Lou
Very beautiful clean blue Chevy Elcamino Lou.
Hi CJ Colvin, Happy to read you enjoy the color & the car :-) Lou
@@loucostabile Thanks brother.

Bill, you have an amazing vehicle. I had never seen a 1960 El Camino before so this was a thrill to see. Even today it is futuristic looking. You did a great job restoring it, and what's best is that it is daily driver. Have fun! Thanks Lou for another awesome car story!
Hi citibear57, Happy to read you enjoy this car & episode :-) Thank you for viewing, sharing, and your welcome, Lou
I like this car, but I especially appreciate that the owner made the effort to name those involved in the restomod. More often than not, car owners do not give credit to those that actually made their car what it is. It is as if the supplier of the money is all that matters.
Hi Old Town, Glad to read you enjoy the Owner and his sharing of the Team to help build this car :-) Lou
Very fine ute, as we say in Oz. great job Bill. Thanks Lou for this rare find. Not sure I have ever seen a '60 el Camino.
Hi D Wnright, Happy to share this rare treat with you :-) You're welcome, Lou
This is really great. When I was 6 or 7. my best friend who was 4 years older than me built a model of a '59 EC which he did a meticulous job on, spray painting the body, you guessed it, metallic blue :).
Man, I think that was the only '59 OR '60 I ever saw so this is special.
Hi glen kepic, Happy to read this car brings back memories of the model car you remember :-) Thank you for viewing and sharing, Lou
Great video Lou love watching your channel. You dont see many 60 el caminos at all, I always assumed that they were low production but didn't know for sure.
Hi PlymouthDuster 225, Happy to share this rare treat with you :-) Lou
This is a beautiful restoration, Lou. Thanks for the link!
Happy to share this one with you :-) You're welcome MisterMasterShafter1
A very 😎 El Camino!
Yes
A very nice car and presentation Lou. I enjoyed it very much and liked the owner and his history of his car. Love that color too and redone very nicely. I was just two years old when they made this car. Very nice ride along too Lou! Thanks for sharing!

Fantastic work - and it must have been done in record time! Great Car Story!! Very interesting. Thanks Lou!
Hi Jeff, Amazing to take this from a frame & some body panels and turn it into this, I agree, it's amazing. You're welcome, Lou

Not to many survived I always liked them but it fun to drive it in AZ

Wifey probably didn't know it would be such a "betty magnet" You gotta go check that Jeepster now.
Hi Dan Martin, Bonus :-) Lou
LOL - you know its an awesome car when people stop you to ask questions. There's nothing more to say after that. Very kewl ride!

Lou Costabile - 👍👍✌🏻
El Camino very cool very unusual car. Existed in a time when car makers were still experimenting. I like the 59 better though.
Hi ron, Is it a car? Is it a pickup? I know! the El Camino :-) Lou
very cool you guys ! love that el camino and with all the updates ! hey get the ladies jeepster on you show … very cool story with in a story on my car story... stay safe !!

Hi Craig M, High praise for this car :-) Lou
Wow, that is truly amazing. How old is that guy? He doesn't seem old enough to have such appreciation for and knowledge of this vintage but that is wonderful👍🏻👏🏻
Hi PJE, Happy to receive a "Wow" :-) Lou
You dont really many of the 60s el Camino anywhere most of the el Camino are the later models that are more common

Hi galiffrey1, Hoping see this one too, and panning to be back 1st week in August. Lou
Just slightly better than stock.. 😆!
Just slightly :-)
El Camino, made for the road! BTW, it means "the road" in Spanish!
Thank you for viewing & sharing your knowledge.
Between the Trans Am Mustang and this car, it is evident that you were in my general neighborhood and didn't even stop by to say hello. I am SO insulted I am going to cry a river into my lunchtime bowl of Jack Daniels. Hissy fit may follow; I haven't decided yet.
Hi 413x398, If you see me in your neighborhood, you make sure you come out and say hello :-) Lou
wow, a rare beauty indeed! Lou, I gotta ask: you show all these awesome cars on a continuous basis it seems, BUT... the 6 million dollar questions, what's your personal favorite? and what kind of car do you have and drive? I just gotta know!!
# 1 1966 Batmobile. Here is my car - ua-cam.com/video/_cVNSu5xv6Y/v-deo.html
Thanks, interesting build., & may be some good history in Jeepsters (1948) , not to mention more trucks. ( can you imagine some of the Options: & Showroom/ Factory stock ElCaminos) .. Anyways, I have a 2007 GMC (2 Door) Canyon my second Vehicle.....This Pandemic is difficult, at times & great interest , & distractions you create!
Hi Opera, Thank you for viewing & sharing your find this build interesting :-) Lou
The 60 had a good style, a little toned down from the 59 ,cleaner lines
Hi David, Thank you for viewing & sharing the styling details you enjoy, Lou
From a non Ford guy the fender spears are from a 62 Ford sun liner convertible
Hi Dave Butler, Thank you for viewing & sharing your knowledge on the fender spears, Lou
HELLO GREAT CAR BUT NOT SURE WHY IT IS IMPORTANT THAT THE FENDER BOLTS ARE ORIGINAL WHEN THE ENTIRE POWER TRAIN IS NOT....BUT A GREAT FIND...TKS LOU
Hi RON, You know how car owners can be, some things are important, and other parts not so much. Happy to read you enjoy this rare treat "find" :-) Lou
Sweet
:-)
Ford parts on a Chevy... Blasphemy! Haha
Edit El Camino is a Ranchero Imposter 🤣.
Nice paint on it. A little too modernized for me. Thanks for sharing Lou.
That's a good one :-)
@@loucostabile It's all in good fun. Have a good weekend Lou.
Very nicely done, even with the tiny motor, although, it only came with a 283 anyway, about 4.65 liters, so, all good.
Happy to read you enjoy the build of this car & the motor bump up in CI's too :-)
This one never had a 283 in it from the factory , there are no V8 emblems on it . This had the 235 inline 6 cylinder engine .
@@bobbrinkerhoff3592 FYI...there were never any call outs for engine size on 1960 models
@@midnightgambler3718 there were never any number call outs, however the grill emblem spoke volumes . Just the badge meant it had a six cylinder , the badge with a Vee meant it was 283 equipped , the Vee with crossed flags came with a 348 . 1961 was the same as 1960 . '62s had 409 numerals to go with the V8 badge .
Looks like Charlie brother from "Two man and a half".
Thank you for viewing and sharing.
I'm really disappointed that there's no toolbox in the leftover footwell. That would have been crazy cool.
Hi David David, That would be a nice touch, Lou
@@loucostabile No offense meant. I didn't mean that as a dig at the owner. Just a dig at Chevy. Unused space needs a toolbox. Didn't Ford have a pickup with an underbed tool box behind the cab? I remember seeing that somewhere.
Hi Guys Great video I own a 65 ElCamino 327 [Lumpy] 4sd which I am thinking of turning into LS automatic for a more dependable driver I was ruling out the 4.8 but after this video it seems just fine My question is which transmission did you end up installing Thanks
Hi james mercer, I'm not sure of the trans, however glad to read you have a cool 65 El Camino :-) Thank you for viewing & sharing, Lou
@@loucostabile Thanks Lou All the best Jim
Nice car and video but how come you Zoom in on the emblems and tags why is that
Hi Michael Martinez, Because I like to know the details and what they say. Usually you can't see or read them, however with the magnification of the camera, you might actually be able to read them for a change. Lou
I believe I would've took all the dents out of the Bed and fender wells spending that type of cash on a restoration.
