On "My Car Story" we're in the Western Suburbs of IL on 9-4-19.
We're looking at a 1962 Chevrolet Bel Air Bubble Top in Ermine White Paint. The car features the factory 409 CI V8 engine producing 409 Horse Power.
The car's Owner is Dave Trumbo. Dave’s had this car since 2014. Dave shares back in 1962 this car was the fastest car from the Factory at the drag races. His car is restored and looks great.
ENJOY!
Wow....a 409 dual quad, four speed Bel Air. How rare and beautiful is that?
Hi Racoldgin, Happy to read you appreciate the rarity of this car :-) Thank you for viewing, sharing and I believe you're going to see many more cars on this Channel you'll enjoy. Lou
Saved my pennies, saved my dimes, giddy up giddy up 409…. Awesome and thank you.
NiCE! You're welcome Back Roads Wingrider :-)
Four speed, dual quad, Posi-Traction 409...... They do not write songs about electric cars.
"They do not write songs about electric cars." AWESOME !!!
@@loucostabile Thanks for this one Lou!
They do not and will never...
Or about Priuses!
I love these old cars. They have so much personality. Driving them is best. When my mother first learned to drive it was in my dad's 62 Ermine white Bel Air . It was a 4 door 283 with power glide. Not a 409. No seat belts either. Those were the days. I miss cars like these. I think todays cars are boring as hell most of them. Lou keep finding and showing these rare gems. Thank you.
Hi ZWILD1, Happy to read this one reminds you of your Mother 1st driving lesson :-) Thank you for viewing, sharing, and you're welcome, Lou
The old Chevys were a thing of beauties!
Nice :-) Hope you take some time and see the many more that are on this UA-cam Channel I think you'll enjoy.
That is a beauty. I will never forget the first time I saw a 62 Bel Aire bubble top, it fit so well with the lower body. I have liked that roof style since it came out in 1959. GM used that roof well for four years.
Hi Randall, Happy to read this car brings back memories of the 1st time you saw a 62 Bel Air Bubble Top :-) Thank you for viewing and sharing, Lou
My father bought the 1963 Biscayne version which was probably a bit lighter than the Bel Air. It had a rubber floor covering, no carpet, no radio, and no heater. Just get up and go. If you can believe it that is the car I learned to drive in. Thanks, Lou for bringing back such great memories.
Hi Rich, Happy to read this car brings back memories of your Fathers car :-) Thank you for viewing and sharing, Lou
I've been subscribing to My Car Story for quite a while and it's amazing how many guys with these classics have said their car has never been filmed for the internet. This Chevy is sensational for its time and its rarity makes it a true work of automotive art. Keep up the great work Lou!!
Hi Mike Vale, Thank you for sharing you've been a Viewer for quite awhile :-) Fun when I can share one not seen on the internet before with you. Like opening a present on your birthday to see what's inside, Lou
@@loucostabile ...and for me as an Aussie car enthusiast, through your work I'm learning of classics I've never heard of that never made it to Australia, such as this Chevy bubble and many others from your classic car catalogue of videos. :-)
I was born in 1949 and I loved the cars of the 50's and 60's. I regret not taking advantage of the huge discount on new cars given to military personnel returning from Vietnam. Love the Pontiac GTO, Olds 442, Buick GSX, and Chevelle SS of '69-'70.
Hi Kitty, I think you're on the right UA-cam Channel for the cars you love :-) Make sure to watch the commercials so I get $ and I can keep sharing the cars with you, Lou
The most fun way to live in a bubble! More punch than George Foreman! Best of all, starting in '62 you could get the 409 for any big 'Chevy, even a wagon! 409 thanks to you and Dave for showing its stuff! Giddyup!
Hi iswc27, "The most fun way to live in a bubble!" Good one :-) You're welcome, Lou
Those 'plain Jane' Chevy Belairs and Biscaynes were so cool! I was always a Chevy man..got it from Dad! Put a bubble top on it, and put a 409 in it and you have an awesome car. I think Grumpy Jenkins used to run one!
Hi Dave, Happy to read you enjoy this car :-) Lou
As a 72 year old guy, I can very much appreciate the importance of this car…” SHE’S REAL FINE, MY 409”!
NICE !
This is the exact car that the Beach Boys were singing about in their song "409". I've seen a 1961 Bel-Air bubble top with the 409 dual quad 4 speed at a car show in St. Louis that was just like the 1962 example in your video. Those cars will flat out run!
Hi Michael, Happy to read this car brings back memories of the car you saw in St Louis :-) Thank you for viewing and sharing, Lou
Stunning car and built exactly the way I would have ordered it, one of my top 3 Chevy’s of all-time ! 👍🏼
Hi Richard Devoe, Happy to read you enjoy the looks and options on this car :-) Top 3 Chevy...NICE! Lou
Richard Devoe like this and the 1961 Chevy-61, first year without fins.
61 was the first year for the 409 actually and it came in the first car to carry the "SS"badge was the impala as well.

Neat car I remember the first time I seen one, I was 11 years old, it was the summer of 62. Most of the 409 cars got thrashed pretty hard and many didn't survive. I looked at a 63 with a 409 in 1969 and it was already on its last legs. You could buy them back then for 500 bucks. If we had only known what a good one would be worth today.
Hi grant wright, Happy to read this car / video brings back memories for you :-) Thank you for viewing and sharing, Lou

What a neat old car and the owner was awesome too a fun guy he was! Boy that engine sound and power was really awesome. I loved the white color it gives a plain Jane car to me a great look. I love white cars. But wow a 409 with the bubble top just awesome and a great video Lou and thanks for sharing!

You know you grew up in a great era, when your family’s maid drove a car identical to this one. We had many jokes over cleaning (quickly) and “I can’t do nothin without my 409!”
Hi 2W3X4YZ5, Thank you for viewing & sharing, Lou
This 62 Chevy brings back memories for me as a very young boy. My older brothers first car was a 1962 Tan color biscayne. Three on the tree with a six cylinder. After 3 days the car disappeared from our driveway and my father kept pressing my older brother where the car was? My brother keep making lame excuses where the car disappeared to. Anyway, after two weeks my brothers car shows up sitting back in our driveway with a 409 motor four on the floor, big chrome tach mounted on the dash duel exhaust with laker pipes wide rear tires with the hubcaps off! He was a 18 year old machinist apprentice at the time and I was 10… funny how I remember these things!

Car guy all my life, seen all kinds of Bel-Air and Imp., never saw this coming! Love it.Keep it up Lou.
Hi James, Happy to read "never saw this coming!" :-) My pleasure sharing with you. Lou
Hi Lou,
Great interview my type of guy keeping the dream alive. 409 1962 Bubble Top, you think about it, this Chevy is 57 years old & what beautiful stunning condition it's in.
Sounds mean like it's ready to rumble with anything that crosses its path. True people from his generation know what it is & appreciate it for what it is.
We have the responsibility to ensure these old muscle cars live on & on. The pressure is mounting slowly but surely to eradicate these beautiful machines off the road due to environmental concern.
I know this first hand with my 1970 VG 770 Hemi 6 cylinder Hardtop Valiant.
My 2 boys go on & on it's environmentally unfriendly etc etc etc no intrest at all except if it is a Tesla.
We must fight the fight & like your host drive our muscle cars daily.
Love the sound absolutely awesome.
Louis Kats from Australia 👍
Hi Louis from Australia, Glad to read you enjoy the looks & sounds from this car :-) My son too looks quite fondly at Tesla's. I hope that a little of this rumble will sink into his memory, Lou
I'm 73...Dave, I know exactly what that car is.Dave knows what I mean. You could hear that engine's heart when he took it uo to 2K...409x409 in a Bel Air...60's badass
Hi Ralph H., Happy to read you enjoy this car :-) Hope you see many more cars on this UA-cam Channel you enjoy, and please share the Channel with your other Car Friends too, Lou
The 1962 Chevy Bel Air 2 door hardtop was the only full sized GM vehicle that kept the thin pillar or "bubble top" styling from the 59 through 61 generation. The Impala and all Pontiac's, Olds, Buick and Cadillacs had wide c pillars beginning in 62. At the time the the Bel Air hardtop was the lowest priced full sized GM 2 door hardtop with an MSRP of just below $2500. Now it is the most sought after due to the exclusive design of the narrow c pillar. This car with the 409 engine make it even more valuable. Also radio was not a "delete" option on cars of this era. Am radios were extra cost on all vehicles except the Ford Thunderbird where it was standard. Heaters were delete options as most cars had heaters as standard equipment. This is truly a rare find that could sell for 100K with the 409.
Hi Larry, Thank you for viewing and sharing your knowledge, Lou
Wow really nice and the white paint. Clean. The exhaust stock came out just behind rear tires love the sound when he shifts gears.
Happy to receive a "Wow" from you Dan Kingma :-) Hope you see many more cars you enjoy on this UA-cam Channel, Lou
I don't mean to be putting the car down, it is drop dead gorgeous! The 409 emblem is to close to the cross flag emblem, the exhaust never dumped in front of the tires, and the vin number tells you it was originally a 6 cyl. car. The glovebox and dash trim are from an Impala!

Nice ride! About the gas, your probably ok with the Premium 94 test that's at every pump (runs great in my 2019 400 HP Dodge Hemi). If your using the original heads and valves from 1962 the main thing is the absence of lead in modern gas. I've seen off the shelf additives in a 12 oz bottle you add to a full tank of today's gas and it will help protect your valve-train, running real Racing-Fuel isn't really necessary unless your compression is up above 12 to 1 or so. I used to know a guy back in the 1980's who had a 16 to 1 compression full race engine in a 1968 Camaro body, he ran High Octane Aviation fuel that was 120 test (or so).

in 1971 i bought one of these 409 bubble top, the car was well known around long island. it was customized with the original tail lights replaced with olds lights and a crazy green heavy metal flake paint. i would not have changed the tail lights. i street raced it a lot .ate up GTO'S. anyway it had a electric fuel pump well hidden under the dash. it would go about 1/2 mile and shut down if you forgot to turn it on. i went to jones beach one day and the car was stolen. i forgot to turn off the pump [probably distracted] they would not have got far if i did and probably would have just left it. it was 1 of a kind and a lot of people knew the car so my best guess is that it was stripped or sent overseas. never found. i was a young guy and that hurt. story goes that after the original costomizing it had a article in hot rod magazine in 63. without internet at the time i could not verify that

My brother had a white bubble top with a 283. Not a barn burner but smooth and quiet as a lamb. Problem was loosing a tooth on the fly wheel because the starter motor was engaged while it was already running. It was so quiet and smooth. And light. Cannot imagine with a 409.
