    At 1:50, Ridout says that the back length of the viola on which he plays is "17 3/8 inches, that's about 43.7 cm." These are approximate figures, because 17 3/8 inches =17.375 in = 44.1 cm, and 43.7 cm = 17.2 inches. As he discusses at 0:25, the playable string length is shorter than normal for an instrument of this size, so it is not as difficult to play as one would expect for a 44 cm back.
