I always thought Ray has a business mindset, which is a compliment btw. The way he wrote an email to Thomastik Infeld to ask to support him or founded the Tonic app are showing he is a very intelligent man who can see the prospects of things.
What a great interview! Ray Chen is not only a brilliant violinist but also a stupendous storyteller. His engagement with these strings is destiny.

The Dolphin has swam through the lives of many virtuoso violin experts and its fascinating to know that each person who played it also have their own unique and brilliant sound. This is one of the many things that fascinates me with violin. My own unique sound is in its' embryonic mode and I love to listen to the experts, like Ray Chen, Pinky Zuckerman, Itzak Perlman, Hilary Hahn, Maxim Vengerov, Janine Jansen, and Ling Lings such as Two Set Violin Eddie Chen and Brett Yang, and many otherswho are all inspirational.
No dolphins were harmed in the making of this video.

Heifetz didn't use no megabuck strings on that Dolphin, it was silver G raw guts and a Goldbrokat.
Wonderful and charming performance, thank you very much for that. I tried the strings, they don't work well on my violin and the time it takes to break them in is long. My favorite strings are the Dominant Pro. They hold the tone almost immediately and sound wonderful from day one. They sound clear and have a certain depth. Many greetings from Germany. 😊🎻

I bought the Dynamo strings no matter what becoz of Ray😅 I didn’t expect much BUT when I started playing, I sounded MUCH better. I particularly like the warm lower notes on the G and D strings. I can also produce crisp and clear sounds using artificial harmonics, which is something I couldn’t do with other strings that I’ve used. I’m so excited and it motivates me to practice.

Wonderful interview! The quality of the recording is great too! I use the PIs and now have to try the DYNAMOS. For the video editing, I would have used the wonderful wall painting as background to the questions. The transition between the white screen and the video scenes was a bit uncomfortable to watch. 👁🕶😁
A while back I used Thomastik strings on my mandolins. The flat wound strings removed the zing of the phosphor bronze strings that I didn't think was appropriate in classical music. Wonderful strings. Expensive but worth it.

I am curious….is it worth the price to try these for a much lower value instrument? 😂 I have an Italian violin worth $10k. Been recently disappointed in projection and clarity with Dominant strings. I’ve only used classic Dominants though, so could also try PI.

I can't stand how one is constantly spending money to search for that perfect sound on violin. Like we don't have to deal with that as pianists. It's just one and done
Until you go to the piano store and try out all of the good pianos there 🙂
@@Highlander515 I only spent $650 on my electric piano gear. That's a drop in the bucket compared to violin stuff. Even after you buy a violin you have to constantly buy strings and bow hair

I'm sorry, but Ray Chen does not have a "juicy" sound.... it might be his thin fingers, but he just cannot produce nice, warm, rounded sound
Supposedly great violins have good amount of high frequency overtones, so it may not sound warm in a close range recording like this, but it should project well in a large concert hall.
@@Highlander515 I've heard him in concert hall as well in-person. . . violins actually sound great in smaller rooms that have good acoustic surfaces like here.
