Hundreds arrested, a scandal contiinuing year after year, and the story was "too bitty" for her?! She's a wonderful example of humanity, isn't she? She blames the lack of a slick PR campaign for the victims. The story wasn't covered because, in fact, the journalists did NOT care about it. Total complacency still.

Private Eye has been talking about it on an almost monthly basis for over ten years. People needed to see it rather than read about it though. We've always been the same. Remember how back in the 60s Play for Today would air on one day and a campaign would start the next day.

On one banking trip me the assistant manager and the manager counted out the taking 3 times before it was put together for banking.
I toddled off to the P.O. with the takings handed them over to the guy behind the glass.
He proceeded to count out the money in front of me but for every £100 he was sticking it in his money drawer instead of leaving all the money out in front of him and myself.
Shock horror we were £20 short which i know he pocketed but a recount is impossible because he had added it to his money drawer.

@TalkTV - Sorry, but citing comments that you felt the story was 'too bitty' so not exciting nor gripping enough to cover, is part of the problem. Hardly any journalists contacted years ago could be bothered, didn't take it seriously. Had you, and been consistent to gain public awareness, those poor people that had their lives completely ruined, would have had recognition years earlier. I feel you are all 'woe is poor me' bleating because it took a docu-drama to do a job that you had daily and weekly access to provide. You all by point of your job title: Jounalist, should have done that in the first place. You all should have covered this story to get the plight full frontal in the public's face. Yet you didn't. All credit, therefore, rightly needs to go to those behind the docu-drama, for not failing the affected people, by not viewing the whole story as 'bitty,' but for pulling out the stops and helpng them, where you failed and did not help, for years.

Isabel Euphemia Oakeshott has a track record of misusing sources and only being interested in sensationalist stories. It's no surprise she wasn't interested in the plight of postmasters. She no doubt saw them as insignificant and unimportant.

Politicians in this country seem to want to take the easy option. Some, mine, don't even answer letters, any letters on difficult things are passed on to a civil servant and their reply is sent back. There's no ownership and they've forgotten who is serving who.
I don't know if it is a modern affliction but most MPs seem to be incapable of asking difficult questions when told there's no problem, or 97% of scientists agree, which they never do on any topic. The same problem also affects most journalists.
But the biggest issue is outside work and consultancies easy money with future employment guaranteed.

Why have the Government (tax payers) got to foot the bill?
    Why not the post office?
    Why not Fujitsu?
I think Fujitsu currently has Government contracts. Why?
Why are the Government falling over themselves to pay compensation?
Are they worried about parliament involvement?

So Sunak can move this quickly over a TV show (he doesn't actually give a toss about the victims) - so when is ITV going to do a show on the destruction and death caused by people smuggling? Surely the greatest State Sponsored Terrorist Actmin History. That way we can get Sunak to move as quickly to put a stop to it? Or maybe his sponsors need to be consulted first?

The posturing of UK media and political class are the pits. Oakeshot is right. ll the squawking makes me nauseous. This is a bloody tragedy, but it is NOT the greatest scandal in British history. The biggest scandal is going on in plain sight in the Covid Inquiry. Sickening.

Did Oakshit want everything served on a plate before she does her job as a JOURNALIST, that is having a nose for a story and even putting a bit of effort in, even if there is a chance there’s nothing at the end of it.
