Unpopular opinion: Automatons wouldn’t be that bad if their planet wasn’t the same as the Terimanids. I personally think if the automatons world was more of a destroyed civilization with reasonably scaled buildings that you could maneuver around the planet through would make it WAY more fun. We’ll have more viable cover as well as the terrain changes could help not get you yeeted across the map by those missile launching dudes
That doesn’t make sense though. They’re robots made by the Cyborgs to weaken the humans. Their only “home” planet is Cyberstan, they wouldn’t really have infrastructure elsewhere.
I agree with your opinion on why the bots feel worse to play. While I can see that their design is meant for a more methodical take, cross map aggro and the rockets that 1 shot is just too much
The biggest issue is bots don’t lose aggro, especially devastators who can retain aggro even if you’re hundreds of meters away. And it doesn’t seem intentional because sometimes the bots will keep shooting even if they appear otherwise passive.
Personally I don't see enough people using the explosive resist armor. It's been a godsend for me vs bots if I'm not wearing stealth. You take a rocket devastator to the face and get right back up most of the time. My issue with high difficulty Automaton drops is that the heavy devastators (shield + minigun) almost completely replace the generic soldier robots. I hate them far more than any other automaton type!!!!
LOL I actually like that you left the first cut in! Great video, thanks for the commentary! 6:30 I think this is a great idea! Flinch Resistance booster - I'd love to see that!
Yeah the rocket devastators need a fat nerf. They need more of an arcing trajectory and way more warning, or they could have a more random trajectory like the Hailfire droids from Star Wars battlefront (the first ones). But getting sniped in the face by a rocket can’t be played against, can’t be countered, you just instantly die with zero warning which is definitely frustrating. There also aren’t really any good stratagems you can use to block rockets, the mech just dies instantly as well.
FUN TIP!!! With the NEW Sickle Energy Rifle if you shoot the Devastator in their Rocket stack backpack it explodes and they get destroyed super quick. 😉
The barrages generally have too long cooldown for what they do, which is miss a lot. Even the precision strike has like 100s cooldown, even though it's a rather weaksauce skillshot with its long call-in time. Though one use I do have for the 380mm in particular is toss it into an enemy base and just have it clear it out of fabricators for me. Not a 100% success rate, but it's not too rare either. Worth a strategem slot? Prolly not. I think I got the 120mm to wipe out two tanks for me once, although it was a case of tossing the strategem and booking it. I found the wrecks later. Didn't see them actually get hit, but it's what I assume happened. Airburst is good. Too long a cooldown tho, as an eagle cluster can do the same, but more often and at a competitive rearm time.
At that point I usually just use the laser. It takes out the Fabricators and Bug Tunnels itself if there aren't too many heavies to take its attention away. Cleared out a good number of heavy bases just throwing that while everything else was on cooldown
I am the connoisseur of HE barrages. I find it to be an amazing stratagem. My main uses are against Destroy objectives. Detection towers, anti air, mortars, large outposts even research station and removes the risks of triggering bot drops. Use it like a fire and forget stratagem. You just want to leave the area go do something else and in 32 seconds you will have an objective cleared or nearly cleared and you can comeback for clean up. Also great because often outposts can be a source of enemy spawns and it just completely removes that as an issue. For extractions its nice if you can see a huge amount of enemies and you want to not worry about that direction for awhile you can just delete that direction and use it to zone out enemies similar to the orbital laser but you have unlimited uses. Just throw it in the middle of where you want to bomb. Seems to have an issue that wherever the ball is it never or almost never drops where it is. Big thing is just knowing what problems you want it to deal with. Bad placements of the stratagem is what I think most people have a hard time with since it has no forgiveness and you can easily waste the stratagem.
I only really like in certain situations, but in those situations it is really good. I mostly find it harder to use since teammates won't leave the area I put my barrage in alone for a bit even after my callout
I highly recommend trying the Anti Material Rifle! It has much more ammo than the Auto Cannon and reloads much quicker. You can deal with every single Automaton enemy besides the tanks. It makes really quick work of the hulks if you shoot their face. Please try it!
Vouch. I didn't like how the railgun handled even pre-patch, no auto-reloading single shot mags was just a deal-breaker for me. Nothing like a good ol' 50 cal clone to go blastin' with.
OMG The red-bladed dudes call in reinforcements! Thank you so much, I was having so much trouble - was scared it was like the bugs where basically any of them can call those in. Automotons will be so much smoother now that I know that.
Any of the basic mook soldier robots can. You can interrupt the animation at least unlike bugs, but the timing is still pretty tight and they can do it with no warning.
Great video and nice use of the autocannon! And you are totally right about bots being hard but not in a good way. Their aim with the rockets is just way too crazy for how many they shoot, and the fact it one shots you. Against bots I like to use the Scorcher against armored stuff and the Stalwart as a main weapon against the rest. So you can run the shield to save you against the BS random rocket going for your face. The laser rifle and laser cannon are also really good. And flinch/stagger should be highly reduced by the armor stat. So heavy armor would make sense.
I'd be more inclined to run these mission with heavy armor if it had a built-in reduction to flinching and stagger from random stray shots and some minor impacts.
If they ever want to make the mech better against automatons, they only really need to add resistance to bullets. Make a minigun devastator take over 6 minutes of continuous fire to destroy it by itself, meaning 3 devastators would take about 2 minutes of uninterrupted fire to destroy it. Though it still wouldn't be invincible considering every unit has a rocketeer variant (that I would love to see their damage all be nerfed but could still see it being weak to explosive damage). Doesn't even need to be this mech resistant to bullet fire either as there are multiple variants that exist in helldivers 1 likely to appear in helldivers 2 and they could all have a certain faction they are better against than the others.
You're a hell of a good helldiver son, I look forward to seeing your UA-cam career as you get more experience and tighten up the edits a bit, I could see you going big.
I feel the strength of the HE barrages is to pull enemy attention to that location. To fully utilize it, I like to throw it into a large base that I don't plan on personally running into (at least initially). They call in reinforcements but I'm long gone. Then the reinforcement is on cooldown when I run into the objective I plan on taking. This strategy significantly reduces the odds that I'll need to deal with reinforcement call-ins. That being said... the 380 is way too spread to do reliable damage to a base. It's more luck than anything. I tend to run the 120mm he barrage. It is perfect for nearly annihilating smaller outposts including the mortar outpost. It may not destroy everything, but you can stop by after hitting another outpost and cleanup whatever remains.
I pretty much only play solo against automatons. Some things I've learned is that any of the small bots can call in a bot drop, not just the commissars. I still use the railgun because on unsafe it can still one shot the AT-ATs and Hulks while being easier to aim than the autocannon. I also always bring the orbital laser because it can deal with tanks and turrets easily. Personaly I like the default orbital strike more than the 500kg because it has a quick cooldown and its good for destroying outposts. Usually for the last spot I bring the mortar sentry, but sometimes ill bring the shield backpack. The only thing that sucks is the kill automatons missions are now basically impossible on higher difficulties solo and theres almost always one per operation.
Id recommend trying the anti material rifle. The scope makes 1 hinting hulks easy, plus it has more ammo and a higher fire rate than the auto cannon. Also, you can run a backpack with it.
The Commissars aren’t the only units capable of sending flares. All Trooper variants can use them as well. What sets the Commissars apart is that they fire a flare as soon as they can, usually right when combat starts, and they tend to hang back until all Troopers are dead. Commissars are identified by their use of one sword and one pistol without a jump pack. In order to best take down enemies, I’d recommend using a primary or secondary that is good for sniping, and attempting to eliminate as many enemies as possible before being detected. Start with isolated enemies and always have something to block line of sight. Once you’re out of easy kills, take out the Commissars ASAP, and then throw a stratagem if necessary. I prefer to use the Senator to start, as it is oddly quiet.
Try out the orbital rail cannon strike to one shot the occasional hulk, and the orbital laser for wiping out those massive automaton bases and objectives (also to save your team in a really bad situation)
Have you tried the shield pack and anti material rifle combo? Its not very easy but gives you a way to still take down stronger enemies with shots to their eyes while having a shield pack. Also love your videos, they are really helpful at getting better at the game!
I haven't tried Bots solo, but you should know that the Liberator Concussive consistently stuns the Devastators. If you're quick, you can keep several of them locked down at a time. If it's a shield guy, just aim for their exposed shoulder or hand.
barrages are pretty good for doing large aoe damage over time against structures or large enemy groups. I use them against large bug hives and bot factories. Sneak up on one, throw a barrage in there and book it. Come back to wipe up the pieces. Works pretty well most of the time and they have unlimited uses.
If you hate rocket one shots, I really recommend trying out heavy armor with the fortified perk. It gives explosive resist, and some more general toughness. Its enough that you can survive a direct rocket hit like the one that killed you.

I have been fighting Automatons since level 1. By the time I saw the bugs, I was level 20. Now I'm level 47 and still fight the bots, but, during major order times I will go fight the bugs.
The 380 needs a tighter cone, and you need a dude wearing armor that helps with throwing, its unusable right now lol. Maybe they add a 4th teir to the ship stratagems to help tighten the grouping up.
I like the classic firefight situation with automatons. And barrages seem to be good to throw into big factories or troop masses and then move to the next objective.
I know you're not a big fan of automaton missions but I've been absolutely glued to Ustata since the planet opened up... So hard though since I'm still trying to figure out how to solo higher difficulty
The 380 can be used to defend a flank on an objective. Toss as far out as possible, hold 120m diameter circle. Can also be used to cover a retreat as you used
Any good advices on Terminid extractions? Last time I tried to hide in a fair distance from the Extraction zone and let the timer run out. Patrols swarmed the Extraction area then... something happend... I don't even know what, and every single bug in the area knew where I am with pinpoint accuracy. They just all turned towards my position and from there on I had no hope of losing them. With bugs I feel like the AI always zeroes down on me even if I am in sneak mode. Its like bugs always discover where I am no matter what.
The RAILGUN its still good for Automatons. It only sucks for Terminids. I usually love playing against Automatons more than Terminids. You can 100% still use the RAILGUN, I prefer it since I can carry Shield unlike with the Autocannon.
I have a pretty comfortable loadout vs Automatons. it's kind of simple really; Eagle Airstrike + Orbital Railcannon, and then your choice of backpack/support weapon. If I take a 2-in-1 like the Autocannon then I'll consider a Mech or Sentry. Not really a solo build but definitely good for high level Automaton play.
the heaviest armor with extra padding can survive a rocket hit, and the scorcher is the best primary for bots IMO cuz you can take out every bot from the front with your primary except tank and hulks
I use the 120mm barrage only on those 15min defend missions at higher diffs where you have so many enemies running around the area that it becomes worth it. The 380mm barrage hits way too wide to be of any use. It either does nothing or kills a team mate.
barrages I throw in front of me to cover my exit, the countdown timer is so long I would rather kite the enemies into it and risk a stray shot than completely whiff on a throw behind because the mob already moved out of its area. That’s what the Eagle is for anyway
I’m genuinely impressed that this guy can just run around these maps solo on level 9 difficulty, competing objectives no problem. When I drop into suicide mission, it’s an endless barrage of enemies that never stop coming.
It can be lethal if you can get to an elevated spot somewhere ahead of your squad and go prone with it. Pretty much nothing but the tanks is a major issue for it, which is why you bring some eagle rocket pods or railcannon strike to deal with those. Had a squad last night where 2 of us had them, and we were leapfrogging in pairs on the way to extraction with the second guy on each team handling the flanks and any jump packs that tried to close the range.
Suggesting to try AT riffle with shield and 50% survival chance armor. Feels almost the same as autocannon but a lot easier not to die to random stuff.
I think a change that could be really healthy for the game is for specific patrols only being able to call in a limited amount of reinforcments. I say this because you can get yourself stuck in an endless loop of enemies spawning because each drop ship will drop one of those assholes that hides behind a rock calling new drop ships in.
Both barrages are good at clearing bases as long as you’re not near them lol. Toss the 380 barrage in a 10 hole and run around for ~30seconds and it will clear most of the holes for you
Honestly, the Slugger is probably a much better option vs bots simply because it brings range to the table. It's more like a DMR rifle that's actually done right than a normal shotgun, and can actually snipe things out at long ranges while still keeping the close range stagger vs Berserkers. I believe it can 2/3 shot Devestators with headshots as well which is nice, and near misses still punch through their armour and do decent damage
The barrages arent for the units, they're for the bases. Like, when you spawned next to the eye of Sauron -- throw the barrage at it. Large automaton base? Barrage it. It takes out all the spawning fabricators and heavy units inside with ease. Literally call it in and run away and then do other objectives and you'll just have maybe 1 or 2 fabs to destroy manually. The laser is also fantastic for taking out bases. Walking barrage is also better for clearing out a pie shaped part of the map. Really good for fighting back to your body, too.
is arc thrower any good. it feels quite solid against most enemies. only tanks and hulks seem to be problematic but hulks are manageable. maybe its because of the not top difficulty
At minute 13 why didn't you explode that resp building, it's 1 shot from autocannon to the vent? Also didn't shot that turret that was standing backwards.
Hey dood, your vids keep making me want to figure out my key bindings. Are you running standard key binds? Your gameplay is very fluid at higher difficulty, Please help a fellow helldiver out. FOOOOR SUPPPPER EARRRTH lol
Not sure what he runs but i play at really high difficulty and have a 100% keyboard. I have strategems on my arrowkeys so I can still sprint while I hold right ctrl + the arrow keys. Makes things much more "fluid" as you say.
The patrols that spawn directly on you after the most recent patch, plus the fact that the bots will launch rockets 5m from where they stand to kill you while they take minimal damage as well as them shooting rockets through environmental hazards at 100+m with pinpoint accuracy is why they'll almost always be a no for me. I'd rather take my chances against hunters than bots, no matter the difficulty.
Personally, against automatons, I prefer an heavy armor with 50% resistance to explosions, the am sniper and a shield (which the autocannon doesn't allow). Works fine for me
I prefer fighting the Automaton. It’s like a perfect mix of stealth and combat. Bugs I find myself running around like a chicken with my head cut off getting slashed away by hunters and pouncers. Then the hive guards and the other bigger guys come and feed.
I tried using a jump pack and smoke screen combo to allow me to retrieve my kit easier and immediately fly away to get that distance... It did okay. I did extract XD.
It's Neva about the fun.... When was it ever about fun... It has always been about, and will be about the...Creek... Never forget about the Creek.... "Checks Mag" Here we go again!!!
I actually like automatons more than terminids only because i feel like i'm fighting a "war" cause they are like humanoïds. terminids make me feel like a bug eradicator, i like it too but I love how everything explode with automatons
Arc Thrower is also really good against he Automatons you skip the whole thing with trying to snipe Hulk heads you probably won't kill Striders just as fast, but they still go down most Automatons can be defeated by the Arc Thrower; you only have to worry about tanks and turrets
They seriously need to tweak how far the automatons can snipe you from, specially those devastator rockets, also need to decrease the range of that hulks flamethrower. Automatons are wayyy too overturned
Heads up, armors seems to work as it should against the bots, I run medium and rarely die unless there's rockets but apparently heavy can eat a rocket, from what I see you just take soo much damage from light armor against bots, dunno if it's worth using.
Classic orbital 380 mm, I swear it avoids enemies and objectives most of the times, but God forbid you or your teammate are in range during the first salvo. It will connect so precisely, the shell would kill you with impact alone
For me, I kind of dislike the bugs. I was never a fan of hoarder shooters, and the bugs are no different. But helldivers does it the best. I very much prefer automatons though. With amazing coordination, even the mech slaughters them all despite rocket devastators or hulk bruisers. The only times ive died with the mechs is when i turn too hard to the right and shot a missile and it ended up inside of the mech instead of shooting out and ended up killing myself. But, thats with good coordination, not playing solo. I usually play duos.
Why don’t people ever Combine the Guard dog with the Anti personnel rifle. You don’t have to wear a backpack for the sniper and the Guard dog gets rid of any grunt that makes it difficult to kill the more advanced enemies
While I do agree that the automatons are harder to deal with, I think the absolute most annoying/frustrating thing in the game is the stupid hunters and their slowdown mechanics. I’d take literally anything over that
Why do people play more against the bugs? I wish both factions were equal in terms of popularity but I don't see many automaton videos. I'm assuming it's because the bugs are pretty much all melee. Hopefully they decrease rocket devastators like they did with chargers
Unpopular opinion: Automatons wouldn’t be that bad if their planet wasn’t the same as the Terimanids. yeah auto climb is annoying as hell i hope they add an option to turn it off
I know you're not a big fan of automaton missions but I've been absolutely glued to Ustata since the planet opened up... So hard though since I'm still trying to figure out how to solo higher difficulty
The 380 can be used to defend a flank on an objective. Toss as far out as possible, hold 120m diameter circle.
Can also be used to cover a retreat as you used
I was thinking the same thing about the flinch, a booster or maybe a new ship module that increases reload speed and reduces flinch
I hope devs won't nerf automatons. It's cool we have one faction for fun and one - for flashbacks:)
Actually, any of the small, light bots can shoot flares, it's just that the commissars are the ones that try to do it first out of the group.
Have you tried the arc thrower on bugs since the charger changes? Arc thrower is my favorite against them now, railgun being a close second
The RAILGUN its still good for Automatons. It only sucks for Terminids.
I usually love playing against Automatons more than Terminids. You can 100% still use the RAILGUN, I prefer it since I can carry Shield unlike with the Autocannon.
if no one uses heavy armor - adding less flinch as a feature for heavy armor might be good to make it more appealing
Os seus vídeos são muito bons, me lembra bastante as longplays no começo do UA-cam.
For Barrages, i use the 120 and chuck it at an objective and hope it clears everything out
I use the 120mm barrage only on those 15min defend missions at higher diffs where you have so many enemies running around the area that it becomes worth it.
The barrages I think are best for clearing big big hives or larger side objectives. Kinda like a drop and run kind of item
I’m genuinely impressed that this guy can just run around these maps solo on level 9 difficulty, competing objectives no problem. When I drop into suicide mission, it’s an endless barrage of enemies that never stop coming.
Could be a property of an armor set to reinforce you against flinching or twitching when taking damage.
Tip for everyone: If you want to keep shield pack with the auto-cannon, just run Anti-Material rifle. 2-shot Hulks.
Is your first video with commentary?, love it
Suggesting to try AT riffle with shield and 50% survival chance armor.
Toss the 380 barrage in a 10 hole and run around for ~30seconds and it will clear most of the holes for you
Nice vid!
i really like watch your gameplays
Love your content
LET'S GO 🔥🔥
Honestly, the Slugger is probably a much better option vs bots simply because it brings range to the table.
16:14 Average barrage experience 😭
The barrages arent for the units, they're for the bases.
Like, when you spawned next to the eye of Sauron -- throw the barrage at it.
Large automaton base? Barrage it.
It takes out all the spawning fabricators and heavy units inside with ease.
Literally call it in and run away and then do other objectives and you'll just have maybe 1 or 2 fabs to destroy manually.
The laser is also fantastic for taking out bases.
Walking barrage is also better for clearing out a pie shaped part of the map. Really good for fighting back to your body, too.
Honestly had no idea you could kill the detector tower with anything other than a Hellbomb.
I really like the fast stealth playstyle against Automatons.
is arc thrower any good. it feels quite solid against most enemies. only tanks and hulks seem to be problematic but hulks are manageable. maybe its because of the not top difficulty
At minute 13 why didn't you explode that resp building, it's 1 shot from autocannon to the vent? Also didn't shot that turret that was standing backwards.
9:40 Passive, aggressive, however you play is awesome to watch!
Makes things much more "fluid" as you say.
is it just me or did they nerf the visual effect of the 500? it doesn't feel as epic as it used to, but maybe it's just because ive been playing hours
Works fine for me
The 380 is more of a fire and forget thing rather than an at your feet instant thing XD
Thb in my team we just throw the Barrage on any bigger area we need to clear just to thin the Herd a bit
I actually like automatons more than terminids only because i feel like i'm fighting a "war" cause they are like humanoïds. terminids make me feel like a bug eradicator, i like it too but I love how everything explode with automatons
damn he forgot about the first intro
Slugger is pretty good, for the devastators, not bad trash clear either but can have ammo problems. Jar 5 burns thru mags unfortunately.
Love the vids man I’m new to the game so seeing cool vids like these is awesome hope to see you on the battlefield fellow diver 🫡
Arc Thrower is also really good against he Automatons
you skip the whole thing with trying to snipe Hulk heads
you probably won't kill Striders just as fast, but they still go down
most Automatons can be defeated by the Arc Thrower; you only have to worry about tanks and turrets
Which Armor do you wear? Why dors it have a hood?
They seriously need to tweak how far the automatons can snipe you from, specially those devastator rockets, also need to decrease the range of that hulks flamethrower. Automatons are wayyy too overturned
How would you deal with the tanks?
How do you have that many 500ks? Is this some ship module that's boosts it up that much?
Yes, there is a module that gives +1 bomb uses
barrage appreciation post
❤
The barrages are only good if you mix the 120 and the 380 together.
It will connect so precisely, the shell would kill you with impact alone
i recommend using smokes or smoke stratagem against bots, it helps a ton
Heavy armor should resist flinch
automatons has to be the most fun faction to play against with friends
How do I use my barrages? I don't. Wayy too unpredictable and unreliable
You don’t have to wear a backpack for the sniper and the Guard dog gets rid of any grunt that makes it difficult to kill the more advanced enemies
restarting the intro messed me up lol
All the small bots can call for a drop, its just uncommon outside of commisars
I prefer Automatons because it takes a little more brain power. Bugs are pretty good starter enemies.
Not as fun. Plain and simple. They just feel like any other shooter game playing against the bots
bots are too hard
would play against them more but rocket devastators don’t make it that fun as they can be 100% accurate from 30 miles away
