  • Good morning! In this episode, Jeff gives us a close look at the Lamello Classic X cordless biscuit joiner. The first time I used a biscuit joiner was around 1985. My then boss had picked one up from a woodworking show and it happened to be a Lamello. Back then, I believe Lamello was the only one in the market. I’ve had a few different brands since then, but none of them have worked as nicely as that Lamello. It’s going to be really nice to have one back in the shop. Almost 40 years later, and I still believe that a biscuit jointer is a must have tool and it finds its way into most of the projects I build. Do you use a biscuit jointer in your shop?
    Have a great day and thanks for watching, Jon

    Before there was today's Kreg and Lamello solidly placed in the woodworkers world, there was Norm Abrams. In the "This Old House and New Yankee Workshop series way before the internet, he introduced Pocket screw jigs and Biscuit Joinery to the unwashed American masses. In fact he made his first pocket-holer jig out of rock maple to evaluate the concept, before long he was sold, especially when he switched from flathead screws to pan head.
    And then there was also Roy Underhill who showed how to use a chisel and a few well-placed hammer blows to inset a "V" recess for pocket holes, both great craftsmen in my opinion and the two most- used joinery methods, especially when paired together.
    Russ Morash was the PBS series producer, it was amusing to see Norm use tools that had black tape over the manufacturers badging. Russ was open to donated tools and soon you'd see a branded grinder or other tool proudly and loudly used and the taped one retired.☺

      We all owe those guys a lot. Although Roy is a bit of a close talker for my taste 😝

    I've had a Lamello biscuit joiner for many years, and would never have another. I recently upgraded to the Top 21 joiner that gives a little more flexibility in setting the height. I don't know if you have the Lamello Zeta P2, but it's like the biscuit joiner on steroids. I make mitered, beaded cabinet doors using the Tenso connectors where no clamps are needed for assembly. You can't go wrong with a Lamello product. Yes they are expensive, and not for a casual user, but they are so well made once you do use one, you won't go back. Oh, and you're right, their biscuits are, hands down, the best around. I bought a little container of PC #10 biscuits because I didn't need a whole Lamello box, and their quality control sucks.

      The Top 21 is very cool because you can do offsets for drop edge shelves etc.
      We have a Zeta and absolutely love it. We use it all of the time.

      @@TodaysCraftsmen I never thought of using the Top21 for offsets, but that would be a really accurate way to do it. Thanks for the tip. Glad you have the Zeta, such a great idea on their product.

    I thought this was a Festool killer. These tools don’t need to be that expensive.

    I’ll go with the Lamello Zeta, if I would buy a Lamello machine. They are very well built and for some very custom projects they are life saving.

      We have one and love it. You can put a regular biscuit cutter in a zeta but I’d rather have 2 machines.

      @@TodaysCraftsmen I would prefer a Festool Domino and a Lamello Zeta! That covers more than a regular biscuit jointer can cover.

    I thought when I got my domino I would never use my biscuit joiner again. I love the domino but I use my biscuit joiner more. Great to have them both. Totally agree that lamelo biscuits make a big difference

    • @TodaysCraftsmen
      @TodaysCraftsmen  7 днів тому +1

      Agreed. Both Domino machines collect dust for the most part. They’re indispensable when you need them but the biscuit joiner comes out far more often. Along with our Zeta P2

    I hadn’t realized - the Lamello “clamex” biscuits work in a slot cut buy by my old PC?

    • @TodaysCraftsmen
      @TodaysCraftsmen  5 днів тому

      The Clamex p-14 for the Zeta will not but Lamello recently released the Clamex s-20 which works in a regular biscuit slot along with some screws.

    Wait...the price...uuuuhm, what?!? In Europe it's over $700, and in the US, it's over $1000?!? For a bisquit joiner!?! Seriously?!?

    • @TodaysCraftsmen
      @TodaysCraftsmen  7 днів тому

      Definitely pricey but it’s reflected in the quality of the tool. Also if you use it frequently it’s easy to justify the cost.
