I first heard this song in a bar in Trenton, Ontario around 1973. A black guy was playing it on the fiddle and he asked a member of the audience to accompany him on the harmonica. It has always been one of my favourite songs. First time I've heard it on the guitar. Many thanks for sharing it.
My father ,Fraser Mac Farlane died in May of 1998 and 3 members of the New Brunswick Country Music Hall of Fame played the music at the funeral home in Petticodiac , New Brunswick. Perry Craft, on Fiddle, Vance Patterson , on Guitar, and June Tremaine on Piano. This was my dad's favorite tune, and the last they played before we closed the casket. In Perry's words, "Some of you may not think it appropriate to play this next tune, but every time Fraser was at one of our parties, he would not let us put the instruments away until we played this next tune, and we may not be ABLE to get the casket closed until we do !,,, so here goes " A wonderful tune, wonderful memories... Thanks so much for posting !
This is just beautiful... Could listen to this all day... Awesome job... This is what guitar picking is all about... A great performance... Thanks for sharing your talents....
If I may add this song was a hit in 1957 written and performed by Canadian fiddler Ward Allen from near London Ontario. The player here is Canadian as well. Its a really great song but not Nashville Country. Ward Allen (1924-1965) was popular all over North America and performed at the Grand Ole Opera.

I was surfing through the "tube" after discovering it not too long ago. I stopped here and have been listening to this for the past hour. The music and your playing is wonderful. Year's ago I saw Maybelle Carter on "Hootenany" playing wildwood flower. I took a cab home right after the show and kept picking on my brothers old Kay until I got it. I set this in my favorites and when I manage to come close to your to sounding like you, I'll let you know. thank you so much for this clip

Hey it's one thing to play maple sugar on the violin ,that is what it was composed for and played by thousands of people sounding from exceptionaly ,good / to exceptionally pathetic, sorry !!! But to come up with that kind of perfection with a guitar 🎸 on a tune composed for a violin , just blows everyone else right off the music sheet and out of the auditorium. This is truly amazing music to the ears and eyes as you watch him pick effortlessly !!! Thank You.
Dedepick your another great guitarist from the coast. When I watch your right hand pick, its smooth and has an easy, steady movement ; you remind me of Norman Blake a great picker in US.Thanks.
on this afternoon I capoed up, and tried to follow. great god almighty, I can learn to pick along, and maybe (dare I) take a break. thank you dede pick

Wow that's about as pretty of an example of flat picking as I've heard in a while and what a great tune as well! You know as I listen to you I'm thinking it would be fab to hear you do this on an electric guitar -- you could bend the notes and get more sustain like a fiddle -- bet it would really cool! Realy great job.
LOL! That got a complete loud whoop outta me that scared my cats right outta the room! =D Thanks for sharing...we used to do this tune too, but not as good as this!!! ♪
