Monk Synopsis: Adrian Monk (Emmy®-winner Tony Shalhoub) was once a rising star with the San Francisco Police Department, legendary for using unconventional means to solve the department's most baffling cases. But after the tragic and still-unsolved murder of his wife, Trudy, the devastated Monk becomes obsessive-compulsive. His psychological disorder has caused him to develop an abnormal fear of virtually everything: germs, heights, crowds... even milk. Monk's condition costs him his job, but he's back as a police consultant despite the unique challenges he encounters in his everyday life. These challenges lead Monk to hire a personal nurse, Sharona Fleming (Bitty Schram), who is always there to offer her assistance, even with the simplest of tasks (like organizing his sock drawer). Her less-than-subtle prodding keeps the "defective detective" on track in his investigations, as well as in his efforts to convince Captain Stottlemeyer (Ted Levine) to allow him to return to the force.

I like how the real mystery of this episode isn't who killed the guard and manager but rather how this joke of an investigator suddenly got so good as solving cases.
"Art Vandelay, p.i." deserved a sitcom show in his own right.
Can't stand ya
The writers of this show did a good job, as did the actors. I love this show.
The show was so good because they had a great balance of seriousness/drama and plenty of humor. Not to mention the touching moments when Monk deals with his trauma over losing Trudy. I used to watch this show with my mom, but never actually finished it. Thank goodness they have it Amazon Prime, since Peacock now charges for the show
Generally speaking, yes. They made a very enjoyable show.
The problem is if you pay attention to the details, a lot of things don't add up or make sense.
Thank God that the robbers felt like discussing the details of the crime while on hold more than they'd be forced to in court
Or in a police interrogation room
Well, considering the robber was so overconfident that he pulled off his mask to expose himself just for a reason to kill somebody he didn’t need to, I think he was a total psychopath who definitely would of done that just because he could.
This scenario made more sense when the show was made. But it wouldn't work today with modern cell phones.
But did u die tho?
*I made a post like this too!
@@jameskelly3502 what would a cell phone have to do with anything?
Also, this show is only about 15 years old. We had cell phones in the early 2000s!
I definitely sympathized with Monk on feeling betrayed/not needed anymore when Stottlemeyer chose Marty over him.😢
Also, yes Monk, Marty is cheating.😉
Also in the TV star episode, everyone left Monk because they all got invited to a party by the bad guy except Monk.
@@iganpparamarta8813😢
One of my favorites! Jason Alexander was so good in this role. Fairly well fleshed out character for such a short tv cameo.
Are you saying he put on a lot of weight? I thought so too!
Jason has been on a few shows as cameo over the years
I wonder what the plan was if they got another case. He'd be worthless as he would have no idea what he was doing. It was an interesting idea for a 1 episode thing.
He should ask Monk who's even worthless and gets his 'solution' from the most random unrealistic events. Discussing a plan while on hold and learning the operator knows the path whole on hold. Give me a break.
Technically speaking, can't the mom get charges for withholding evidence?
Yup. Accessory. Dicey if it sticks, but it's a pressure tool for sure.
No. Legally she has no obligation to help the police with their investigation. If she had lied to the cops about knowing anything THEN she could have been charged.
If she is not being questioned by the police, she doesn't have to do anything. It is only if she is involved in an aktive investigation. Which she is not
This is the closest we ever came to a Monk and Seinfeld crossover. Funny thing is I remember watching this show on My13 on Fridays and Seinfeld would be next at 10pm.
He has a blind fold for driving over bridges - best idea ever. More OCD isn't possible.
The rare instance where the show pivots from murder mystery to crime action.
Columbo did this too, but only a couple of times.
“It would take you four weeks to correct one paper” 😂
Monk and the thieves working in tandem to get Marty caught out 😂
My favourite episode. It had everything - different plot, interesting case, drama, action and we saw Monk's good detective skills
Also Costanza.
@@nicholasfarrell5981"These pretzels are makin' me thirsty!!" 🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣
I just happened to think, what was Marty's plan when someone would, more than likely, come to him with a case?🤔
A stupid thing in this series is, that always people sometimes have to look dumb in compare to Monk to make him more intelligent. When he has competence, it must be declared incompetent in the end.
You can coast pretty far on a reputation based on just one great performance.
Look at M Night Shyamalan. And for that matter, Jordan Peele too.
@@lightyagami1752 Well, I mean, if everyone thought he was a better detective than Monk, eventually, someone would come to him with a second case. Which would expose him as a fraud and that reputation would go straight down the drain
Latter on the episode he DID claimed to had cases already
"Okay I am dialing the number n now its ringing"
Funny for TV, but in reality "divining" a few pieces of key information for a murder to help the police solve the crime, and most likely you'd be suspect #1, 2, 3, and 4 and they'd press you relentlessly until you confess to the crime yourself.
Not if you are à White person...🤔
This episode is GOLD.
Especially the last part
MONK is on Hallmark! They should have MONK for 6 hours on Wednesday.
Thank you!
Here's the thing **Monk pun intended**... Even he did get away with "solving" this crime, what would he do about this next one? He's still a hack
Yeah he ended up getting famous and started to get more business but then once he started to bring no results people would see him as a one hit wonder
Well the end of this episode did answer that. Marty took that teaching position that Monk had talked about applying for across the bridge. 'Those that can't do, teach'.
@@joelwillems4081 oh, yeah. I forgot about that. I haven't seen this episode since it first aired
@@joelwillems4081 Your comment reminds me of School of Rock. Those who can't do, teach. Those who can't teach, teach gym.
Monk is a hack
Not gonna lie, kind of wish they named his character Art Vandelay…
"He's cheating"
Natalie: ‘WE know how you did it. WE figured it out’. She does like to take credit for Monks work.
She supported him the whole way so maybe she gets a little of credit?
She works long hours for a cheap, mostly self-absorbed, world-class neurotic.
He's lucky she didn't become the murderer someone else had to catch.
Because ... you know.
Who cares
there needs to be more episodes showing monk's life after getting past some phobias. did he get past all of them? did he let himself love again?
There is a Monk movie coming out in December! So excited!
Final of the series, you need to see it.
Has all of your answers.
The fame he got from solving 1 case being way more than any time Monk solved it is the 1 break in logic.
The best drama in my life. It is healing the broken mind.
Jason Alexander doesn't "guest star," he takes over the show and is "the star."
no Tony Shalhoub is the star of this show but all the actors were great.
Monk meets Duckman...
Note to self: not going to speak about stuff when on hold.
George Costanza as Marty:
"These leaves were recently crushed.....I'm 1/16th Cherokee..."😂
What a nice nod to Pocahontas, before her time.😅
Good episode
No one ever runs in Hollywood. What the hell why didn’t he run!?!?
Marty is just as lousy as George is lmao.
I totally disagree with you! 💯
So, at 7:24, when you can see Mrs. Eels ... who else recognized her as the desk clerk that Kevin McCallister pulled a fast one on in the Plaza Hotel? (After all, the boy had a very convincing story!) 😆
What kind of idiots do you have working here?!
Why'd he take his mask off if he was gonna shoot them? I don't get it.
He shot them because they saw his face.
@Je Suis M Tigre They saw his face because he took off the mask though. So why not just shoot them?
You see what I'm saying?
@@irighterotica ...no, sorry. I thought that's what happened? Someone definitely did get shot.
The guard was about to kill him. It was to put them off guard. He said "it's a halloween costume" to calm the guard down, and then kill him
George!!!
“I’m one-sixteenth Cherokee.”
Aren’t we all?
(In our minds, I mean, not in real life.)
8:20 boom roasted monk
# 246!!!!
WHOOOOOOOO..... DOGGY!!! 🤘🤘🤘
It's interesting to see Monk, actually Challenged and being Usurped
George is getting upset
There's no "causeway" in the Bay Area.
Where's part 2?????????? 😂😂😂😂
**NO ONE** was even remotely curious or suspicious as to why Marty's mother was at a crime scene?? 🙄🤔🤔🙄
Thud...clang
🤣 Precision is everything
just my luck, when trying to watch this the site, accidently switched this episode with episode 2.
annoyed the heck out of me.
❤❤❤❤
Monk 😊
I'm annoyed by these kinds of stories.
The new guy appears and solves a single case with seemingly exceptional skill... and then what? Like, everybody turns on Monk after that one case? Did he solve any others somehow when we weren't looking? Why would the police and the general public just immediately forget about all the cases Monk HAS solved, unless they were just looking for an excuse?
That guy was sick. He literally took off his mask so he had an excuse to kill someone
Is there some sort of mass joke whereby people pretend to think this is good?
Or some sort of delusional mass hysteria?
Natalie was a real one
Like Monk suite
How me to kill
thats not right s04 e01 no way
