It takes so much courage to let your work be critiqued. Great job Steve!!! The fact that they stayed on is almost the hardest part. After a couple years I still struggle to layer art because mine are always too thick.
Honestly, for a first time, Steve did a GREAT job! I'm a nail DIY-er who has dabbled in this for about 4 years, and i STILL struggle with getting the thickness right, especially with inlays. Susie is the BEST teacher! She knows how to give constuctive advice without making the student feel bad. She highlights the things they are doing right and explains how they can improve on the things they aren't. Love these vids!!❤
I just love Steve. His comments and facial expressions are awesome. He had me in stitches. You really did a great job for your first set of nails Steve! Kudos for being brave enough to let everyone see them.
Props to Steve for taking all your critiques so well! I love this video! I would love to see more of these long form critique videos. I learned a lot! 💕
I love how Steve is analysing his work with you, congrats to u Steve ♡ I have been doing my own nails for a year, and I still have issues with adhesion, I am also learning thanks to you ♡ Amazing work
Firstly, Steve's first set was SO good for a 1st time! (Way better than my first set was on myself and it was just a french manicure in the dip system!) Secondly, I LOVE this video idea. The ledge at the cuticle is one of my biggest issues STILL after like FIVE years of doing my own dip nails (which i hate to admit 😂) Id love to see more videos like this bringing in Steve and checking his work and progress. Or even other people's too.
Mad respekt for Steve to not only "nail" his very first set of nails this good, but espacialy beeing open to get his work "ripped" apart in this video so everyone can learn from this!!! Thank you very much🤗 Suzie did a great job showing and explaining the the fails and the good work that was done and showing how to improve. Also thank you to this beautyful model! 6.5 hours is a long time - but normal for beginners. You need that time to work and learn. Your Nails look happy and healthy - no overfiling, cuts or dryness. Great idea for a video. Would love to see more of this.
Love the three of you together and it's great seeing mistakes and how to make it better the next time. Love the whole concept! Let us watch Steve's learning curve and repeat this kind of video!
Not being able to open the cat food cans...so relatable! Its amazing how a relatively thin layer added to your natural nails can affect your ability to function! I keep a pair of pliers in my kitchen drawer to help with certain tasks.❤
Steve did a great job & I loved the design! I have done my own nails for about 5 years now. While I have gotten better, I still struggle with some of the things you pointed out to Steve. So, Steve, thank you for sharing your work. 😃☮♥ And, thank you to the model for sharing. 😃☮♥
Steve did a phenomenal job for his first set, seriously, CONGRATS STEVE!! Keep up the great work ❤ Suzie is such a great teacher as well ! I loved this video , only NCE can make a 45 minute video about nail revision this entertaining
Steve, this was SO HELPFUL to watch! Thank you for letting us all learn!! I’ve been working on doing my own nails and struggle with making them too thick. This was great, thank you all!
Whatta GREAT real-time in-person education session! Autumn asking great questions, watching Steve absorbing it all in, and Suzie showing us Great communication & interaction.....all without loosing the fact Steve did a GREAT job on his first set!🎉🎉🎉
Not bad! I look back on my first sets of nails and compare to now (three years later) and it's crazy the difference! "Practice makes progress" is the motto I stick to.
Great video, very nice to be able to see the side by side comparisons throughout. Steve you did and awesome nail set and it would be nice to follow your journey on watching you learn more. Maybe a UA-cam channel for beginners....
This design is giving Wizard of Oz Emerald City. I don’t love it for all the fingers, but on just a few fingers as part of an emerald city set, it would be really cool! Oh, and Steve and Autumn are awesome, by the way!
Apart from the slight over-thickness/width (i made that mistake for years on my own 😂), he's done a fantastic job on these, especially on a first set - very nice shaping & tidy finish! Well done to Steve (also nice to see another man who enjoys this as a hobby/job)!
I love that video, I have been doing nails for some time now and I still find knowing how thick to do them difficult, whether they are full sets, overlays on natural nails or nail repairs. Sometimes they are just right sometimes i go a bit too thin. The longer I do nails the more fussy I get and so its taking me longer now than ever. I think its time to do some more training on structure but the last course I did was so very disappointing I need to do my home work. PS: I really miss the Grant videos too. Thnak you Steve fo going under the spot light, I like that idea. Thank you Suzi and camara man
Also I would Love to learn more about how to avoid getting the ledge at the cuticle and the lifting back there with different systems from acrylic, to gels, and dip systems. I always have to go back agter about a week or so and refill the cuticle area because I always end up with a little lift back there and it gets rough and scratchy and pulls my hair. which means I usually have to file off all coagel top coat and fix the cuticle area then reapply my gel top coat. I SO wish we lived closer to one another because my nails would be perfect for you to use in a teaching video. 😂
I did learn a lot from this. I learned that in order to do this right, it's absolutely not something I'm interested in doing. That, in itself, is a valuable as learning how to do it right (for those who want to do it), so it's still a win. Watching this, I've learned I'd much rather just pay a professional to do it for me as opposed to doing it myself; I just don't have the patience. The only question now is, what do I do with this massive horde of supplies (I tend to over-buy for a new hobby before I even whether or not I'll like doing it)?
I'm learning myself. And I love your channel. Two quick questions: 1) Do I scuff the builder gel layer? 2) Do I need to put a base coat over builder gel before the color?
Oh Steve baby, your comment about it taking 6.5 hours? Don’t you fret, you’re in good company ♥️ I don’t like to talk about this bc it can often wreck my confidence, but I want to pass along some reassurance for you and any other new techs out there experiencing this as well… I’ve been doing nails for 10+ years and I still have sets that take me upwards of ~4+ hours. Of all the nail-set related stressors, 95% can be attributed to the long duration time 😭 I’ve come to the very precipice of a panic attack at least twice in the past year. I’ve hovered within that level of intense anxiety countless times. Even if clients haven’t said anything or haven’t shown any overt frustration , I just really work myself up over it taking so long. I’m constantly translating every intonation, every movement of the client into it being their way to express irritation at being there for so long already; I convince myself that they are super annoyed and frequently end up with a mindset of absolute certainty that they will never come back to me again! At its worst, it’s made me consider more than a couple times to bow out of nail care altogether. But then…I hear other nail pros who have several more years of experience start to talk frustrations about how long some sets take them and found it to be incredibly comforting; so just know that it may take quite a while but eventually you’ll start to improve your work time. In the meantime, try to remind yourself that you’re far from alone in this regard 🤗 Good luck to you sweetie #TeamSteve 😂
Way better than my first set! Did he use gel or acrylic? This type of video is actually really helpful! Susie is a good teacher but it's kind of discouraging watching only perfect applications.
Susie would you please do a video on which product to use for acrilick and gel I’m just starting and I don’t know which product to use with each kind of nails monomer or alcohol
Hybrid gel and using alcohol to manipulate the product has been the easiest to learn. Honestly one of the best videos that I learned the most from starting out was Cameraman being guided by Suzie on his first time doing nails with hybrid gel. It’s a long one but so much valuable information!
Ive been doing my own nails like 5 times, only gel polish btw, and i still suck at all fingers fully adhering, as in this time i had my middle finger on one hand just pop off the topcoat (primer, rubber base, mica powder, topcoat) and on a corner here and there its not been fully covered with topcoat so the mica powder has just said bye when i washed my hands and only the rubber base is there.. and im getting a lot better at not flooding my cuticle and having a smooth edge, actually when i think about it the topcoat that popped off, only the bit that was stuck to the sidewall stayed, that might be why only that nail got messed up cause it was the only cuticle/sidewall i flooded, woo look at me learning 😁
This is so random but i was wondering if by any chance will you be doing an online class for those of us who are also interested in being nail technicians but don't live so close to you?
I'm worried about not being able to do my nails since i developed an allergic reaction to gel almost a year ago. Doing my nails is the only kind of pampering i truly enjoy going to nail salons. i have tried doing it again but i keep getting contact dermatitis so I stopped. Would it still be possible to do my nails and what other options would you recommend? Any answer is much appreciated!
Hi! How are you?! I have a question, so my natural nails are a good length which I’m happy with but since I just had a baby 2 months ago I’ve been so busy taking care of him I haven’t taken care of myself. My nails are breaking like corners break off and I want them to stay all the same size, so my question is, what can I use to make them hard and sturdy? I don’t want to use acrylic because I don’t have time to perfect them and I know acrylic needs a lot of time, I heard gel was good but I don’t know what that is really. Could you give me some advice on what you think would be best for me, something that will make them strong and pretty but won’t take too much time. I also want to paint them and make them look nice!
Yes, acrylic is the most effective, but it’s very hard to find somebody who’s very good at it. So I do recommend a thin layer of hard gel as long as you keep them short make sure the hard gel is brought right to the corners though. Because that’s where you seem to need the strength. But once you go longer with them with your nails will want to do because you’ve got that layer protection. You’ll start to have to add an Apex to compensate for the length. But if you keep them short, you don’t have to start sculpting and building these nails.
I think Steve did himself a real injustice trying to do somebody’s nails in a hybrid or Polygel product. In a dual form is one thing, on top of short natural nails is quite another. Yours looks a tad better ha ha 🇦🇺❤️
I noticed you didn’t mention anything about the air bubbles. I struggle with the air bubbles and then when you file you have a hole (like this nail did). I know you have a video about picking gel up properly to avoid bubbles BUT what happens when you have them? How can you correct it?
Hello Suzie. I have a question. I would like to use my nails as long as i can. i use clear gel for this so there is no difference in terms of colour.. my natural nail matches the colour of the gel. and then i apply white gel to tip of the nail. to keep it strong.. i do it all because my nails are very weak and i cannot do these all frequently. . can you do a video about this? just with clear gel and white gel at tips and create a short nail so we can use it as long as we can. i want to do it better, i think i cant... i hope my english not very bad and i explained it well🥲
I don't care, for a 1st time, Steve did a phenomenal job. Amazing.. Seriously. Such a great job....
Request for more videos of the three of you!!! It's so natural and laid back 😌 absolutely wonderful video. Informative as always!
That’s great to hear
She’s such a great model love Autumn
She's awesome, would love to see her in more videos. Steve is great and did an amazing job! Way to go Steve!!!
Yes! She asked all the right questions.
I’m self taught and just do my own nails. This helps me so much! Steve did great, he’s got a great teacher! Love this style of video. Thanks!
He’s a fabulous students / he’s so open to learning
It takes so much courage to let your work be critiqued. Great job Steve!!! The fact that they stayed on is almost the hardest part. After a couple years I still struggle to layer art because mine are always too thick.

As a podiatrist and nail technician, really great start from Steve as the first time and a great teacher. TFS
Right? Students can be so hard on themselves - we must remember those vids we see when they create a beautiful nail in 30 secs is not reality
This was soo great! Steve is sooo lucky to have you Suzie as a friend and to hwlp teach him! ❤❤❤
And we lucky to have Steve❤️
For a first timer, doing a design that is so tedious and time consuming, give yourself a pat on the back Steve!! Awesome job 😊
Steve that was a great job! And thank you for sharing as well, I also learnt a lot from this. Can’t wait to see more of your work Steve 😍😍😍

Well done Steve! Very impressive nails for a first time. Really enjoyed this video. Hope to see more with him.
how fortunate to have Suzie as a mentor. Great job guy!
I am so glad you are filming Steve's progress. I would gladly let Steve do my nails, anytime
Love the three of you together and it's great seeing mistakes and how to make it better the next time. Love the whole concept!

Steve will learn. I started doing gel nails to myself during Covid lockdown. It took years to get it. I really enjoy it now. The balance and design.
Love the longer videos again. And such a great way to learn and improve. Absolutely amazing. Steve you did a great job.
Steve, this was SO HELPFUL to watch! Thank you for letting us all learn!! I’ve been working on doing my own nails and struggle with making them too thick. This was great, thank you all!

Aw I loved this video! You should do more like these! Need a follow up to see how Steven has improved since then. 🎉
Love the video "Suzie" you are an awesome teacher thanks for sharing and showing luv much love always 💅💕💕💕
Well, for his first time doing someone else’s nails he did a good job with the design. Way to go Steve. Keep at it.
Be truly did
Steve did an awesome job and you are such a great teacher!
Autumn was lovely and fun too
Can't wait to see Steve progress ✌❤
Best teacher i have ever seen ❤🎉🎉🎉🎉🎉
Great video. Steve did do a great job for his first time. ❤❤❤
I know - students are too tough on themselves
Great video, very nice to be able to see the side by side comparisons throughout. Steve you did and awesome nail set and it would be nice to follow your journey on watching you learn more. Maybe a UA-cam channel for beginners....
Great job.! The breakout was very helpful. When I started to do my nails, I concentrated on technique before I attempted inlays or art.
Sorry i missed the Premiere. This was a beautiful set Mama! Yaaaaaas!😘🤎🥰
Oh Suzie. One day after I bought polygel. You came out with your kit. Fooey!
You three are so much fun! Steve is my hero for going big on his first design. What is that pink color on your nails? So pretty.
This design is giving Wizard of Oz Emerald City. I don’t love it for all the fingers, but on just a few fingers as part of an emerald city set, it would be really cool!
Oh, and Steve and Autumn are awesome, by the way!

Great job Steve! My 1st set took 2 days to finish😂
Great job artistically adventurous.💅

I have to say Steve your first attempt at an inlay was 1000% better than mine.

Yes we have some wonderful things planned coming soon
You did a great job with the nails 😅
I would say the gel makes the color pop!
Can't wait! I'm m ready, y'all hurry up lol

I´ve never heard of a bridge polish.... Is it the same as a dehydrator and a primer?
BRIDGE is mainly for Gel. It’s an excellent adhesive.
Several years ago I got a fill in done on my hard gel set. After I left, my hands were horribly sunburned and swollen. It was painful!
You maybe allergic to the product
I noticed you didn’t mention anything about the air bubbles. I struggle with the air bubbles and then when you file you have a hole (like this nail did). I know you have a video about picking gel up properly to avoid bubbles BUT what happens when you have them? How can you correct it?
Hello Suzie. I have a question. I would like to use my nails as long as i can. i use clear gel for this so there is no difference in terms of colour.. my natural nail matches the colour of the gel. and then i apply white gel to tip of the nail. to keep it strong.. i do it all because my nails are very weak and i cannot do these all frequently. . can you do a video about this? just with clear gel and white gel at tips and create a short nail so we can use it as long as we can. i want to do it better, i think i cant... i hope my english not very bad and i explained it well🥲
Is bridge base coat ?
SUZUE HAS A MATCHING SET IF NAILS!!!! BOTH HANDS ARE THE SAME!!!!
Totally Rad Dude!
i loved this video wish i was a student I would like to be a licensed nail tech I do my own nails.
Question, I noticed a free thinning down the nail it was dusted off and wasn’t wiped with like alcohol , why is that?
What do you mean when you say free thinning?
@@NailCareerEducationummmm not a clue 😂 It was supposed to say after you thinned out the nail
Speaking of Grant, where is he? Can he be with you guys next time? ♥️😭 12:53
I am soooooo sad I missed this bc I got called into work 😢
Aww poor Steve what happened 😮
What @ the Cuticle ?
Ok, I see the cuticle covered
Can we see what her new set is?
