not the pink tax in action when the price of horseshoe magnets suddenly went up 😭 TYSM for this comparison! i've held out on finally getting a magnet this long so i'll just wait for ILNP's (but thanks to your vid I now see I need one!!)
@@sj3designs omg thank you for creating something for cat eye 😭 not all magnetics look their absolute best in the velvet style but I'm addicted to the convenience of the horseshoe 😅

The OG in a 22 pull gets you the same exact results as the 30 pull, but the issue is if your fingers can fit. My thumb can fit in the 22 pull with room, and I paid $24 after taxes on Amazon a few months ago. I’ve seen people measure on IG and say their fingers can’t fit in the smaller space.
I have a couple of mooncat magnetic polishes... "apparition" initially has a great result, but then settles and looks like a regular glitter polish (using the magnet wand they send). On the other hand, "millenia" looks a mini galaxy on your nails (using the wand). I bought some bar magnets from lowes (yet to use, but are considerably stronger than the wands) ... no horsehoe mags in sight.
@@1lbfarley yeah. I haven't had much luck yet in creating a cat eye and the other look. Still trying to figure it out. Some people make it look so easy and I have no idea what I'm doing wrong.
Mooncat magnetic polishes are stellar, and the most reactive that I've come across. I love ILNP's, but I think Mooncat dries down and stays put more quickly. This was really helpful! My horseshoe is 10lb and it does a pretty good job, but my thumb is pretty snug in there, so I'll probably need to upgrade to the 30lb at some point.
@@no_nail_notes not OP but Millennia and Forbidden Fruit are amazing, especially Forbidden Fruit, it's extremely reactive to magnets and if you do cat eye you even get some hints of purple from the magnetic particles at some angles.
I was also disappointed by mani mag. I have a 11 lbs horseshoe magnet so what I do is start off with horseshoe and let it set on mani mag as I move on to next nail with horseshoe. This way I can sort of do multiple at a time.
Same, I had so much hope for Mani Mag 🥲 That's a great idea! I currently just wait a bit, then paint my next nail and swap out the finger that is drying in the magnet
Thank yooou!! I’ve been wanting to get into magnetic polish but I’ve only really liked the velvet effect for them but like… who wants to continuously move the magnet around 😩 Did not know INLP was coming out with a horseshoe one, for sure would rather support them than Amazon 😂
Ive started putting a short cylinder magnet between the two regular square magnets that come with the polishes and it helps it not collapse plus my thumb fits in it!
Anytime you buy at least 1 magnetic polish from Mooncat, they include a magnet for free. I have half a dozen now. I also got the,SJ3 Designs 3D printed magnet and LOVE it!
Great in-depth review! I already bought the horseshoe magnet earlier in the year but have yet to use it. Admittedly I'm a little scared to, because of the pull. I need to make sure I put my laptop and phone further away before I sit down to use it. To anyone buying one, PLEASE read the warnings. It talks about what to be careful around, including pacemakers. Funnily enough, my father whom I live with just recently had to have a pacemaker put in so I'm very mindful of that. Also consider how and where you're going to store it. I put mine in the garage because I was too nervous to store it in my bathroom. I think I can ease up on my concerns a bit though and find a place indoors. I just wish there was a box I could store it in that would negate the magnetic field.
I am so happy you did this video thank you so much! I also wanted to add Sj3 Designs came out with an XL verison if their Velveteen magnet which is wider and a 32 lb pull! Also, Cracked Polish has a collab with Sj3 Designs on their website in a bright green color and I believe it’s discounted in sales & affiliate codes and they have a free shipping threshold if you buy more of their items like nail polish etc. And Whatcha, By Vanessa Molina, Indie by Patty Lopes, Phoenix Indie Polish, which our featured on Polish Pick Up, Hella Handmade Creations, Little Box of Horrors, & Polished Gamers Box, all have 3D printed versions which are all slightly different. I didn't know the new XL was a 32# pull, that should make the effect even better! $22 for the XL SJ3 or about that same for the 30# from ILNP, both would be good choices I SAW! I'm so tempted to grab some from PPU and HHC, they look so cute 😭
KBShimmer has my favorite magnetics so far! I have a 20 pound pull U mag but one of the polish products I used absolutely bubbled the paint up and off lol I am looking to try ILNP’s magnet next hoping the paint they used is polish friendly

If you have a few extra of the free/cheap cats eye magnets (which most of us probably do, I have like 8 of them) you could superglue 3 into the cheap U-shape so at least it wouldn’t collapse. I started my velvet experiments with the mani-mag, but it was, as you said, not strong enough for best effect. I splurged on a 30# horseshoe and the difference was incredible. It has changed my preference from cats eye to velvet for just about every magnetic polish I have (and I’ve been a magnetic fangirl since I first discovered them years ago). My sister just got the SJ3 magnet and loves it, we were talking about doing a side by side comparison with the SJ3 magnet and the OG horseshoe, but we hadn’t had a chance to do so yet, so your video is a big help. Honorable mention to the KBShimmer wave magnet, which has 2 tiny bar magnets in a holder like the standard cats eye magnets, positioned to create a wavy line rather than a straight line. I accidentally created an aurora borealis mani using it on Mooncat Drowning My Demons, and it was absolutely gorgeous.
Hi you mention safety regarding magnetics around electronics. I work with MRI an extremely large electromagnetic field and yeah large magnets can damage electronics but it still takes time with an extremely large powerful magnet. The 30 pounder would probably fit a big toe even!
wait, it might actually!
Why not just put tape around the magnets so you don’t have to worry about it collapsing in on you?
I would like to be able to dismantle it so they can be used as normal magentic wands as well!
If you practice with the normal ones you can do it. It’s not worth it to get an expensive one imo
do you just use one wand and wave it around to get the velvet effect?
Pink tax on magnets is insane 😂 (jk) Edit: Ok some of these look super worth it!
