Thank you Steven for being the inspiration in much of the Lips music. They have an interesting dynamic with Steve being a heroin addict. I know that Goin On is about Wayne's fear of losing him.
@wallpaperkilla Oh! My bad bro (if your a female sorry). Yeah he could've been, if i had to od and die, I could think of a lot worse places than the ground in the middle of a Flaming Lips show. Especially during such a beautiful song. Sorry for my confusion. Not many bands have multiple EPIC albums. Yoshimi and The Soft Bulletin are every bit as amazing as OK Computer and Rolling Stone (i think) voted OK Computer as the #1 album of all time. You can put those albums on and almost see them!
@ElPresidenteFerry I'm afraid you're just plain wrong. The founding line up consisted of Wayne Coyne, his brother Mark, Michael Ivins and Dave Kostka. This song was written for the album 'Oh My Gawd!!!', during which time (1987), the lineup was Wayne, Michael and Richard English. Wayne wrote this song after a drug addict friend came to visit him at Long John Silver's, but Wayne was too busy to see him. This man committed suicide later that night. Steven joined in Novermber, 1991.
Check out my band's (Deadbeat Society) version of this amazing song (click my username). We rewrote the music but kept the melody, lyrics & vibe. It's about twice the speed also haha.
9 years late, just rediscovering this song after so long. Thank you for your comment but what did I say that was inaccurate? I didn’t say Steve was an inspiration in this particular song. Surely you could’ve read what I said more slowly before acting like you are a bigger Lips fan than I am. Cheers!
Been loving the lips for 30+ years.. still cry when I hear this
"This man's killed this other man that's killed this other man... So that's Okay."
~Best line.
I met Wayne at a flaming lips concert a little while before this concert and I said they should play this song again. I think he listened to me.
Indescribably incredible performance and Dvd.
Best concert, ever.
I've seen Pink Floyd three times, and I envy the folks at this show. JfromOH

Was that dude in the white shirt crying at 4:28? He must definitely relate to this song or know someone who od'ed on drugs.

@joethulhuz You're right. I saw it on a list of the year's best, sorry. I looked and the Beatles have like 4 albums in the top 15, damn.

Maybe 10 people that night actually knew this album.
Yeah, I mean it's Oklahoma City - who'd have heard of the Flaming Lips there??

@Samguitar27 Steven is one of the founding members of the band. Surely every Flaming Lips fan knows that?
@ozabobododo This was written long before Steven joined. Surely every Flaming Lips fan knows that?
