Die Hard, with Shitpeas and Cunk - Charlie Brooker's Weekly Wipe
EDIT MARCH 2023: As many have noted, these clips hit differently a decade on from first broadcast, and following Willis' retirement from acting due to aphasia and frontotemporal dementia.
Was this The One Show performance an early sign of that? In hindsight it could well be - although Willis would go on to star in a Broadway production of Misery two years later. But looking at his film credits, it's hard to see AGDTDH has anything but his last hurrah - Bruce Willis' final blockbuster performance.
I'm leaving this video up in part as a reminder that we never really know what's going on with someone - and indeed, they may not really know themselves at the time.
ORIGINAL DESCRIPTION:
Shitpeas: "Bruce Willis seemed sort of humble about how good he knew the film was, like he could hardly talk about it he was so humble... Seriously - he was so torn up with pride he just had to look at the floor and hardly say anything."
Cunk: "It had this brilliant trailer full of, like, amazing things happening, like explosions, and more explosions, which is brilliantly done - all the fire looks hot and everything..."
Lifeform Barry Shitpeas and Showbiz Liker Philomena Cunk share their thoughts on A Good Day To Die Hard, and Bruce Willis's performance on The One Show.

Keep in mind this was filmed just after him doing stuff like Moonrise Kingdom and Looper, he was still with it then. Probably just tired of doing press tours. It was a couple more years until his workload became mostly direct to video releases.

those interviews they showed where he was having trouble speaking would have been early but well into his dementia prognosis - in fact, it would be the last major film he did before doing a bunch of direct to video that de-emphasised his speaking roles.

The first time I took took LSD, I thought immediately of the total perspective vortex upon looking at Facebook. It was terrifying, I saw only a pit of noise being spit into by the whole world, a Plato's cave whose caverns of stretched endlessly with shadow plays. I've been off of social media ever since, three and half years now, and it's the the best thing that ever happened to my peace of mind.

Look into the "Total Perspective Vortex" (or the "overview effect," as it is more blandly called!) ... There's a name for what Shatner felt: it's called the "overview effect." The term was coined by space philosopher Frank White in his 1987 book of the same name. "The overview effect is a cognitive and emotional shift in a person's awareness, their consciousness and their identity when they see the Earth from space," White told NPR. "They're at a distance and they're seeing the Earth ... in the context of the universe." This context was what struck Shatner the most. "It was the death that I saw in space and the lifeforce that I saw coming from the planet - the blue, the beige and the white," he said. "And I realized one was death and the other was life." According to White, everyone who travels to space experiences an "overview effect" - an emotional or mental reaction strong enough to disrupt that person's previous assumptions about humanity, Earth, and/or the cosmos. Everyone's overview effect is unique to them, but there are reactions that are more common than others. www.npr.org/2022/10/23/1130482740/william-shatner-jeff-bezos-space-travel-overview-effect

@@BLINDTUBEMARES I'm pretty sure it his him being a twat mate. He carried out a huge press junket for the film and was clearly acting 'normal' through most of it, save for a couple of bad mannered interviews, something he was already well known for. He still had a couple of high profile films to come, Red 2 and GI Joe 2 before disappearing into low budget tripe and his unfortunate decline at the hands of Aphasia. I quite enjoy some of his earlier films, but he got far too big for his boots.
