Hopefully by next year, Paige can have a great 5th year and be injury free. I miss Louisville's Hailey Van Lith. She had attitude and could take over a game. At LSU it is a different role. The only reasons I can think of why Paige elected to stay in school another year after graduating is to: (1) keep making the crazy NIL money; (2) try and help take the stacked-talent UConn team to another of their many NCAA championship wins; (3) have an opportunity to be picked #1 in the WNBA draft. #1 is the only legitimate reason IMO. Perhaps, if she hadn't already graduated, it would be different. Playing time lost due to injuries cannot be made up. That's just the way it is. I believe UConn stands a good a chance of winning the NCAA Women's championship this coming season with or without Bueckers. It's time to let the new college talent shine.

I have been privileged in my life to see many outstanding athletes step up in a particular fleeting moment and amaze me. It would diminish the joy of the memory to dismiss excellence by always obsessing on the greatest. Patrick Mahomes. LeBron James. Caitlin Clark. They all have provided special moments. A lot of talk about who is better, Paige or Caitlin, which people treat as it's got to be one or the other. I view it as both are great players and have been two of the top names and faces in women's college basketball for the past four years. Both also play a different style of game for different programs and coaches, with each excelling in her own way. Clark's offensive numbers are more impressive, at first glance, while I would argue Paige is a more well-rounded player and overall better on both ends of the court.
If you look at the two seasons where Paige was healthy, which correspond to their freshmen and senior years, the numbers are very interesting to compare (see below). Clark would seem to have the advantage on the offensive side (in points and assists) while Paige has superior numbers on the defensive side (in steals and blocks).
    Clark's Key Stats:
    2020-2021: Points 26.6 / Shots 18.8 with FG% 47.2% / 3P% 40.6% / Assists 7.1 / Steals 1.3 / Blocks 0.5
    2023-2024: Points 32.0 / Shots 22.7 with FG% 46% / 3P% 38% / Assists 9.0 / Steals 1.8 / Blocks 0.5
    Bueckers Key Stats:
    2020-2021: Points 20.0 / Shots 14.6 with FG% 52.4% / 3P% 46.4% / Assists 5.7 / Steals 2.3 / Blocks 0.4
    2023-2024: Points 22.0 / Shots 15.3 with FG% 53.4 / 3P% 41.8% / Assists 3.9 / Steals 2.3 / Blocks 1.4
Taking a deeper dive into Clark's scoring numbers, it's obvious she takes a lot more shot attempts (especially 3s) vs what Paige takes. This is likely due to their coaches' game strategy/schemes and how each is utilized for the team they have around them. Clark also misses a lot more shots, with Paige's shooting efficiency being better than Clark's, both overall as well as for 3-pointers.
If you want to normalize the two players offensively, then the picture looks a lot different, with the two players being very similar in points scored. Using Clark's 2023-2024 season shot attempts and type of attempts (2s and 3s), would have placed Paige at roughly 29.5 points per game (17.2 points on 3s + 9.6 points on 2s and 2.7 points from free throws). The difference between Paige's hypothetical 29.5 vs 32 Clarks actual points per game is that Clark gets more free-throw attempts and subsequently more free-throw related points vs what Paige had for this past season.
With the above said, I think what Paige has done for UCONN this season is more impressive, given that they basically play with only 5-6 players per game (with injuries taking a huge toll on the team). This might be Geno's best coaching season he has ever done; which says a lot given his 11 championships. I have always had a soft spot for Paige given the major obstacles she has had to overcome the past couple of years and her never give up attitude. With that said, I have the utmost respect for Clark and think she's definitely one of the top college players of all time and will be a hell of a pro player. Others will say Clark is ahead of Paige, and that's all right by me. I think both have fantastic futures ahead of them and hope they win a few US gold medals down the road!

WNBA players could of road the new found interest in women's basketball , but they chose the low road of jealousy and hatred or worse . Any chance has been damaged , could of road on her coat tails with class . But since she failed to get a championship , they choose to tear her down , can't be the best since title wasn't gained they say . Its sorry to see more haters then fans . Now we see the attempt to prop her up , WNBA and its players not saving the golden goose there own fault . She should stay in realm of college , go into coaching don't waste the energy , going to a place that doesn't want you or deserve your contribution to the sport . Shes a kid and grown women and men in pro basketball have taken shots at her , with no reason other then they don't like her or her being so popular . Last year I followed mainly because of her game , more I followed dirty the talk became . Gave them a chance to clean it up after she failed , well lets just say she wasn't the only that failed . My attention to women's basketball going right back where it was before Clark . Sad but no class coming from WNBA and NBA players , or the bad just drowning out the good

@@mariettedorobis6967 No, not freshman Clark. Points wise, Juju is right behind Clark this season. I mentioned that Juju broke her freshman record, that point stays there. Of course they haven't matched her career stats as far as numbers go overall but they've played at a high level all season similar to CC. Clark's "level" is all based on her career stats, not necessarily because of the season she's having. I named those freshmen because of the numbers they've put up as an example of other players who draw viewers in. I think most rational people understand that the men's and women's records are separate. Same as for other sports like volleyball and soccer. But we live in an era of female empowerment, and treating Caitlin as the Div 1all-time scoring leader is part of that. She's a great female player, but you're essentially promoting someone with ability comparable to that of an average high-school male player (and that's being generous) as the face of Division 1 college basketball.
