Thanks - The Majestic movie was directed by Frank Darabont, same guy that did The Shawshank Redemption (still one of the best movies ever imho). This theater’s in Chillicothe, OH.
Point and shoot camera for $2.50 is always a good thing! These are the ones I give to my friends to get started shooting film! These are great to learn compositions and lighting! Love the vintage like area this city offers you.
I got it *for free* (Minolta Riva Mini's variant), found it in some old stuff my family had, I need to try it out with a new battery but it should work since the entire body almost looks like new! The only thing I dislike a little bit is the light vignette effect it makes on the photos. I'm impressed by seeing that you can obtain these Minolta's P&S compact cameras for so little in America, here in Europe if I look on eBay the price range goes from 95 to 160€ (120-190 dollars).
Hey that's a find! I had a Freedom 100 that I shot as an 'every day camera' before switching over to the Infinity Twin, but the 100 was a fixed focus, so these shots seem way sharper and crisper.
I picked up a similar model, a Riva AF 35 in an Oxfam charity store in the UK for £3 so you beat me on price but mine came with a case😀. I was really impressed with it especially when you consider what those Olympus Stulus Mju cost on Ebay
cool find and nice shots ! for 2$50 a bargain ! I've been going to thrift store recently too and scored a Ricoh FF9 with 35mm lens in it's box for 5€ ! I have to try it soon :-) always a pleasure to make use of those underated cameras - I think they make pretty good shots (of course no bokeh with those...but hey ! they are easy to carry and point & shoot is relaxing....)
Hey Dave! Snagged one of these myself - I noticed that the green lamp within the view finder only stays green when the flash mode is on auto, when I switch to full flash or no flash the green lamp blinks even when the subject is in range. Does this mean something is wrong with the camera/focusing or does this happen to your camera as well?
@@theoldcameraguy awesome thank you for replying! So your camera functions the same way when you toggle fill flash or no flash? Does the blinking mean it’s not in focus?
@@chad1337 Just checked it - mine blinks in that case too - even when it should be in focus. Even when blinking, I’ve never had a problem with focus. I wouldn’t worry about it too much - Run a test roll and see what happens.
Hello OC, man I think this is the perfect point and shoot. the images I cant find any fault, Im also not a color film type but in this case I do prefer the color shots to the bw also. thats prob the only point and shoot youll ever need. I just looked them up on ebay and Ivee seen one sell for 119.00 they appear highly regarded
You could put it in flash off mode and try to use an ND filter 🤷🏼♂️ A lot of point and shoots will shoot at about 1/8th if it thinks the scene is really dark and you have it in Flash off mode.
@@theoldcameraguy I know and appreciate that you are so much about the quirky little cameras - but would you consider a video about getting the best out of you negatives. How you scan and why kind of thing?!
Morten Thesbøl I may do that at some point, but here is my basic workflow. Scan with the Epson V550 using Epson Scan software. I used to scan at 3200dpi, but now scan at 2400dpi. I then clean the image up (dust) and adjust contrast or levels if needed in Photoshop Elements.
Hi ,thank you for this video.. So I got it Mınolta freedom Escort camera but I dont know which film I have to use.. I search that , I didnt find it.. Somebody can explain?
Loved the shots. Isn't there a movie about that theater?

Great starter camera for beginners - I agree!
Loved everything: review, photos, music (which I generally hate on review postings. Your posting is a work of art in its own right.
Thanks Marty - I really appreciate it
cute little camera that takes solid photos!
Joan Michel Glad I splurged the $2.50 to buy it haha
Went through my collection of 16 35 mm point a shoots and ☹️ sadly I haven’t got one 😢. But the sun will shine tomorrow: Another great review
I love the Minolta Freedom series. I have the III and it’s an incredible camera also a thrift store find.
Yes, they don’t get as much love as the trendy ones, but some of these Minoltas are great.
Mmmm inolta :)). Beautiful as always.
👍👍👍

Yeah, I’ve had various Freedoms - this one’s my favorite so far.
Major score! I'd take that for $2.50. haha. Great shots, too.
Thanks - yeah I need another camera like I need another hole in my head, but I couldn’t pass this one up.
You're welcome. I know what you mean! I'm about to do an "All of my cameras" video and then I'll probably sell half of them. haha.
just got one of these for a dollar at my goodwill I ordered some film and i’m stoked
Nice score!
Damn dude, that's a real lucky find. Kudos! Love all the sample shots, that little sucker is pretty sharp!!!!
Yeah man, I think I got my money’s worth!

Steve Currie Yes, you got a good deal, for sure. I actually found the autofocus to be a little better on the Minolta than my Stylus Epic.
Looks like a pretty cool camera! I'ma keep my eye out for one. That building at 3:49 is beautiful!
Thanks Rob - it’s a pretty capable shooter and I really like the form factor.
I always have a bias against Point and Shoots, but these are some great shots. Favorite was at 5:34
Thanks Manny - This is a pretty capable little shooter.

Retif's Garage Nice - Have fun with that Ricoh!
Excellent! If you suffer from GAS, this is the way to go. Something about the music adding to your compositions.
Thanks!
Just grabbed a minty one today for $10. Fresh batteries and it’s off to the races!
Nice!
I had one of these and it sold within hours. Great find!
It’s a good little shooter!

I believe mine behaves the same way - you should be OK

Raychristofer Yeah it’s a good shooter - really like the slim form factor. Definitely worth $2.50 haha.
Wow impressive! You got a deal here for sure.
Yes - right place, right time!
Bro, awesome video! I was wondering, did you have to reduce the shutter speed on any of these shots?
Thanks - this one’s pretty much a point and shoot - not too much control, but I still like the results.
You could put it in flash off mode and try to use an ND filter 🤷🏼♂️

Big Al Thanks for the tip!
I've been photographing with Minolta all my life. you scored well with this camera, is this camera not compared to the Leica Mini II?
Yes, there has been a connection between Leica and Minolta and those models are thought to be related.
Fantastic price Dave, it’s a cracking little camera and the images were very good.
Great video 😊👍
Best wishes
Tim
Thanks Tim!
Awesome find for $2.50 really nice shots 👍
Thanks!
Seen one for sale with the lens extended. Can't work out if that means it's broken or not.
You can’t really tell without a battery on this one
Great camera buy, cheaper than film.
Half my cameras are cheaper than film, haha.
Hey I just picked up a Minolta maxxum 4 from a Goodwill
Nice!
As always - well done! love your videos. Can I ask you what scanner you use for your negatives?
Morten Thesbøl Thanks! I use an Epson V550.

Looks like you searched for special ‚Fallout‘ or ‚The Walking Dead‘ scenes there 🤩
Michael Zieschang I pretty much always do 😆

Esma Nur You can use any 35mm film. A good black and white film is Ilford HP5+ and for color you can use Fuji Superia 400 or Kodak Gold.
Thank you so much💓
Esma Nur You’re welcome 👍
Bargain! Nice results.
jjB Thank you!
Amazing keep going my friend , very nice ✨👑

Looks like theoldcameraguy lives in a rough area where he might get his valuable camera stolen when he is out taking pictures with it! :-)
I live in boring suburbia - I just like to hang out in sketchy neighborhoods, haha.
