I'm just going by the recommendations for my vehicle, 09 Honda Civic Si 2 door. Good ol 5W-30. Switched over to Pennzoil Platinum full synthetic. I heard it's highly recommended on those K20 engines.

I use 0w-16 in my Prius in Japan 0w-8 is in development

Today's oils are definitely getting thinner and thinner to meet MPG and EPA requirements. I was a loyal Royal Purple user (great oil) for at least a decade and just recently bought a truck and switched to Shell Rotella full synthetic 0W-20 gas truck oil.

Toyota dealer puts 0W20 in all the time. I thought it was because it’s so cold here but I guess it’s also better in terms of viscosity.

What about if its 110 degrees or -10 degrees outside is thicker oil better than thinner and someone told me some oils they make now are thinner and thicker

as Pat says....use the oil weight etc as recommended by the manufacturer.......enough with this motor oil nonsense
