Bought a set of these for grabbing hot steel in my welding classes. Within six months, the mechanism would begin to kick-back and they could not grip any thickness of material securely. I assumed they just needed cleaned, but I found there was no way to disassemble the mechanism for cleaning. Best I could do was try to blast the grit out with an aerosol cleaner and try to scrub all the way around the mainspring with pipe cleaners. It made no difference - the grip strength is gone. The movement allowed by the pliers causes the workpiece to wriggle free of the jaws, and I have to make sure to grip the piece as deep into the jaws as I can an try to minimize movement. I still use them, as they're faster and easier than any other type of plier I've tried for quick trips to the quenching tank, but I do not trust them to hold any workpiece securely on their own and have to hold everything with the expectation that the pliers will fail.

Just bought some of these and the handles open up so wide that it's very hard to close them one handed without using a bench like you are doing on the vid. Unfortunately there is not always a bench available when you are lying under a car etc. Nice idea but flawed. My glove size is XL.

Interesting. Another caveat I imagine it has: let's say you squash your workpiece a little bit but you can't really tell. You assume the pressure is fine... use it as a wrench, get blocked by a wall or something, remove the tool, reclamp for another turn, squashing the workpiece again (by applying slightly too much pressure at a different angle)... repeat that a few times, then you realize you've noticeably damaged your workpiece. Whoops.

Josh Olson Yes you are right but the same applies to Molegrips, there is a risk with any locking pliers and the way around the problem is to increase the pressure by increments. It worked for me on the copper. As for the wall..... nothing to suggest there.

Be a sweet deal if I could get three for the price of three...
