Zoe T. The divide between working and show Mal breeders is pretty solid, so it shouldn't be as much of an issue as in, say, German Shepherds. At least when it comes to US breeders I feel like there are more working breeders vs show/pet breeders, and they don't tend to stray from what they're specifically breeding for (high drive and intensity vs looks and temperament)
Just lost my Mali mix. She was 90% business and highly driven to protect and herd. Didn’t know what to expect with such a headstrong dog, but she was wicked smart, full of energy and such a lover. She made a great pet and companion, but also thrived as a semi wild dog as I am a hemp farmer by trade, so she had lots of time outside with me and chasing wildlife. I’m hooked on dogs with these attributes for life now. Loyal and loving as it gets, but independent and protective, almost to a fault.
Grandma to a MalinoisX. Best dog ever! Super protective, loving, hardworking, cuddly and LOYAL! LOYAL! LOYAL! He won't leave with my son if he doesn't see me leave also when we go to the park. Such a good boy🥰
The best Malinois in my opinion are the knpv Malinois and that is only because they are mixed with a lot of other great dog breeds including Working German Shepherd, Dutchie, and even some Pitbull and great dane believe it or not.

During deployment we noticed the Malinois with the JSOC groups that passed through, it seemed insanely professional the dog breed, and again during Person of Interest i noticed that breed again and i loved the character Bear on the show that dog was awesome, they did go through 3 or 4 different dogs that played the character on the show and all of them graceful and full of energy. It is however a extremely active dog and me with my disability i am unable to keep up with such a dog so i just enjoy watching videos with the dog breed and any dog breed to be honest.
This has been my favorite breed for many years. I first had one when I was about 14 and he was my best friend and was in herding. I now have a 4 year old boy who was a rescue and there’s so many in rescues now due to the movie Max. Some still have a purebred paperwork from their previous owners but not often cause breeders often take them back. Even though you can get Mals from breeders with guaranteed health I would suggest rescue. There’s been a huge spike in Malinois in rescue because of Max people think they can get that dog for their kids.
A very good friend of mine, who works as a dog trainer, owns one and is the most fantastic, beautiful, awesome and incredible creature I've ever seen. You might think they're incredible just by watching videos of them - trust me, when you see first hand what they're capable of, your jaw drops right down to the floor. Athletic doesn't describe it. They're true superdogs. I'll never own one myself - I'm far from being anywhere close to the level of activity this breed deserves... but it's my favorite breed by far.
I have a malinois mix dog and she is the best. She was clearly abused or something else in the past, but shes such a nice, intellegent and workholic girl. I love her so much!
I have a 8 month old F. Belgian Malinios, AKC registered puppy also! She is at 22" tall to the shoulder. She is 45 lbs so on the smaller side of the breed. She is such a wonderful part of my family. I bought her to be my PTSD "Anxiety" Service Dog. She is in training for that. As a US Armed Forces Veteran Retired I just knew that she was the breed that I wanted to get. She keeps an eye on me as she knows me as I know her. She like it says on this clip a lot of work, training, but as she gets older I feel she will be with me 24/7/365. More and more US Armed Forces Veterans are getting the breed for Service Dogs. It is a breed that we know will be a great service dog, but also for "personal & family protection!" If needed. Very smart breed just have to work with them a lot! But so glad she is in my household now. Fur is short for all sorts of weather especially the summer gets so hot. Sheds 1-2 a year so brushing her every couple of weeks. Balls, toys, even rags is her favorite to play with.
Timothy Casey There is a great difference between having a service dog and a dog that protects your family if needed. They need very different temperament... a service dog should under no circumstances try to “protect” you. It should never bite people and should be safe for the public even in extreme circumstances of stress. A service dog should remain calm under pressure and perform the tasks it was trained to perform. I think it is very important to understand and respect the different strengths and weeknesses of dogs. It is not recommended at all to train your SD for protection and a dog that has been trained for protection may be considered a weapon and can be denied access which other SD’s otherwise have access to.

My best friend has one, and it's his first dog. He is totally amazing. I have a small Brittish shorthair cat at home, who a real adorable badass. I have a groenendael x malinois and she is one of the best dogs I’ve ever owned. They are great family dogs if you provide them with a significant amount of exercise and socialization. While my dog turned out great, I can’t say the same for everyone in her litter. It’s incredibly important to do your research and know how much time you can put into one of these amazing pups before you commit. In a good home, they are some of the most loving and smart animals. Love my Belgian Shepherd!
Jax is gorgeous! I love the red in his coat; prefer the red to fawn/beige/tan. Every dog I have ever had has found me instead of me adopting them. I had one growing up & he was totally faithful & loyal!
Always buy from working dog stock. Show dog's are ruining so many working dog breeds,.breeders trying to make money whatever the cost to the breed. Working dogs not always the cutest but usually healthier and less chance of being inbred.
G.H.T. sadly it's the working dog stock that's been ruined by breeding for ball drive and bite. This is no longer the even tempered herding dog it was 30 years ago.
Most working breeds, (herding dogs, like GSD, Malinois, Beus.) Can't even perform tasks they were bred for because they're so strung out and high drive. I know more Show dogs with working titles, thanks working lines who are even presentable in a ring. With form comes function. Show dogs aren't bred just for looks. They're bred to standard, including workability.
@@nya5153 Choose your breeder wisely. A quality working dog breeder will breed for a non nervy Malinois(uncontrolled high drive). Nervy dogs give a bad impression for the working breed overall. I would like to show my dog...hes 3yrs old now..had him since 6 weeks old. 90lbs and hes a tank! Ive trained him as my service dog as im in a wheelchair, permanently. He , Max, has taken alot of work to get where he is. I have to say he is the handsomest, ist beautiful Malinois ive ever seen. His Father is "Jochie" , he is shown here on youtube a couple videos :). and Duko Is his grandfather. Cara, is his mother. They Are all on the Malinois registry. I love this dog! He is intact.
My Mal GSD mix is about 10 wks old quick learner and I can tell when it's time for some training she starts biting on everything take her out for about 15 min session three four time a day she come in and fall right to sleep.its best to have a fenced in yard for them to run around not chained. Also u need plenty on chew toys they do a lot of knawing.
Absolutely my favorite breed even though I could never have one (not nearly active enough for them). It's just impossible to overstate how amazing they are. I follow a number of Malinois-oriented UA-camrs. Great video!
I have an awesome 3 yr old female . She's the equivalent of an IPO Level 2 . Pretty much anyway . lol I had been on the fence about owning a Malinois because I wasn't sure if I had enough time to be fair to that breed of dog . I've mainly worked with and owned German Shepard. Also I had never owned a female dog before. She has turned out to be the best dog that I've ever had . No problem finding the time for her . I'm excited everyday to spend time working with her . She is a sponge when b it comes to learning and incorrigible when I t comes to the tennis ball . I could not have wished a better dog if I had tried . BTW Jax is extremely handsome and built exactly how I like . You're so fortunate to have him !!!
beautiful dogs! I own a Czech working line German shepherd currently and I would love to get one of these dogs to go along with my boy! I love dogs that I can work and train with.
I can't wait for my Malinois puppy ❤️ We will do IPO too And our puppy dad is a IPO winner in Germany and Poland And the mom has very good IPO results too Three weeks to go ❤️ Just a gorgeous, beautiful and powerful breed ❤️
I'm so glad I saw your post, I've just rescued what looks like a Malinois mix, she's just the best and I'm planning to train her just as you suggest, thanks for the advice x
Awww your boy is sooo handsome! They might say he's not AKC standard but i think he looks really good and i like his coloring. Wish they'd make more of them in this color & size. Thanks for sharing such a good positive informative video on this breed.
My Malinois is an amazing pet. She lives along side a very bossy Jack Russell and is very sweet to the Jackie. Excellent indoor dog. Very sweet but full on Malinois when needed
Yeah I think the most important thing is to talk to the breeder and interact with the puppies before you select one. If you want a calmer disposition you can find one. I have two males. One of them is "crazy" and will go through a burning house if I asked him to. The other has a medium drive and is extremely affectionate. It all depends. But definitely needs a lot of work and leadership.
Who cares about standard when you see such a great working ancestry. These obsession over looks instead of working ancestry and ability is killing the breeds. I would not hesitate for a minute if the working dog I wanted had not the looks standard but it came from such great working background. Nice video, as always
They are EXCELLENT home and personal protection dogs. Fearless and ANY dog that approaches aggressively when your Malinois confronts it, will back away.
I love Mals but I don't agree that any dog that approaches it aggressively will back away. A working line German Shepherd I have seen dominate Mals no problem. There are also other breed that can dominate a Mal. Mal's excel at working with handlers, responsiveness, and drive
I have a 9 months old German/mal mix and best decision I’ve ever made. She’s super stubborn but she’s very intelligent. As much as a terror she can be, I love my Little Lexi.
I love her, her dog too. Dog makes you young again. They push you to work. I had a GSD for 11 years. Each and every morning I went with her to park. If you are a lazy person ... Get a dog. If you truly love her.. you would go for a walk often. Dogs are so happy when they play and see kids in the park. Love from India. ( This mal does an easy pick for new pet lover. No way.. they can't handle. Mal needs to work hard and exercise a lot.
I miss my Malinois friend Boss who lives in Valle del Rubi in Tijuana...he is the Father of over one hundred puppies now...Boss is like a bull in a china shop...I love him so much.
i have worked with this breed sinsce 1981 . out b,G society club was very into keeping the dog relatively a secret. we were afraid it will b/c popular for the wrong people and wind up in shelters. Well the time is coming, I understand a movie will be coming out about a boy and his beautiful B.Malinois. If this is true it could be a disaster for this dog. It happened years ago with shepards and rin tin tin, just know are German shepards are becoming by good breeders the dog it was meant to be, which was similar to a Malinois as far as work, and protection , personal and military
I would love to get a Belgian Malionis but the wife thinks it to much dog for me but I have a Belgian Tervuren he is very smart and ball driven. He’s learned how to let him self out the storm door without getting his tail caught. Best dog I’ve ever had.
We have a malinois mix and this is not a beginners dog. The work ethic and drive is relentless. They need a lot of care, attention, and exercise, but they will work hard and with proper training are a wonderful dog. Their loyalty and work ethic is off the charts, just be aware of what you are getting into.
We're owned by a 4 year old Mal mix, who we rescued. She escaped from her previous owner's yard, was hit by a car, and lost an eye. She came to us with several quirks (fear of cars, fear of people, and even more hyper-viligence than is normal. It's taken 7 months to work those things out). We're working on her separation anxiety now (any ideas on an escape proof crate that won't break the bank? We can't leave her out because she's destructive). I don't know what she's mixed with, but she would rather sleep than go for long walks (especially in the South Carolina heat and humidity).

Not shop, adopt!
I wish I could have a dog like this. My best friend has one, and they are totally amazing. My cat, who's in fact a tiny Brittish grey hair, but a real badass, loves to play with that dog. He even watches her. When she goes too far, he takes her by the neck an carries her back.
Such beautiful dogs!
Just love ... Worked with them in the Belgian military, best friend ever!
Do you get to keep them if you retire early ??
I am adopting a 1 yr old Belgie this weekend who’s owner cannot care for him anymore. I can’t wait to start our lives together!
how’s it going?
My Mal GSD mix is about 10 wks old quick learner and I can tell when it's time for some training she starts biting on everything take her out for about 15 min session three four time a day she come in and fall right to sleep.its best to have a fenced in yard for them to run around not chained. Also u need plenty on chew toys they do a lot of knawing.
Absolutely my favorite breed even though I could never have one (not nearly active enough for them). It's just impossible to overstate how amazing they are. I follow a number of Malinois-oriented UA-camrs. Great video!
Wow, that is one beautiful dog. Amazing color.
Yay, Annie is back
I can't wait for my Malinois puppy ❤️ We will do IPO too
And our puppy dad is a IPO winner in Germany and Poland
And the mom has very good IPO results too
Three weeks to go ❤️
Just a gorgeous, beautiful and powerful breed ❤️
Ice-Phoenvi cool ÷). Treat him/her well and s/he will be an amazing friend and worker. You can see Casey in the avatar. She is amazing at IPO.
I’m thinking of getting a malinois, I know they can be hard work,
I really hope you enjoy your dog
👌🏻 perfect choice
WildHeart-Stinger do you have your BH yet?
I have a 8 weeks old, she’s a ball of fire and smart as heck ♥️♥️♥️✨✨
Mine is 6. Same!
Who cares about standard when you see such a great working ancestry. These obsession over looks instead of working ancestry and ability is killing the breeds. I would not hesitate for a minute if the working dog I wanted had not the looks standard but it came from such great working background.
Nice video, as always
So true! Look at what they did to the German Shepherd just because of "looks"
They are such a beautiful, smart and loyal breed. I hope to get one in the future.
Your Belgian is amazing omg you have done so well with him keep it up
Indeed the best dog (greetings from Belgium)
I have an 11 month old Groenendael and this is him to a T. Will work for you until he cant stand and lives to impress you. Amazing dogs.
man that red coat is stunning! so handsome. can't wait to get my mal
These dogs are beautiful and very smart
Indeed, he's perfect! So good to see.
Awesome vid! No better dog than a Mali period. Totally loyal!
@DANTE BELGIAN MALINOIS
Agreed 👍
I have a 9 months old German/mal mix and best decision I’ve ever made. She’s super stubborn but she’s very intelligent. As much as a terror she can be, I love my Little Lexi.
I just got a female German Shepherd last month she’s 16 weeks now and she’s so beautiful amazing loyalty. Biggest female of the liter
Not a Mal.
To hell with the standards, he is a strikingly beautiful dog. Great Video and good luck.
I love her! And her dog!
i have worked with this breed sinsce 1981 . out b,G society club was very into keeping the dog relatively a secret. we were afraid it will b/c popular for the wrong people and wind up in shelters. Well the time is coming, I understand a movie will be coming out about a boy and his beautiful B.Malinois. If this is true it could be a disaster for this dog. It happened years ago with shepards and rin tin tin, just know are German shepards are becoming by good breeders the dog it was meant to be, which was similar to a Malinois as far as work, and protection , personal and military
thank you for the documentary!
Like the colors beautiful dog, love it
Cane corso's and Belgian malinois. Sounds like a good place to be.
“He’ll work for a toy pretty much until he drops” I don’t think Malinois ever get tired XD If they do, they recharge their energy really fast.
AMEN!! They have unending energy...but ours DOES have an "OFF" button when told to chill!!
Great video, congrats!!!
They are beautiful dogs.
Anybody that doesn’t like dogs, especially this breed, has lost their mind. Dog is and always will be mans best friend.
You have an awesome dog madam and he is wonderful beautiful Jax he will be a great dog for you Shepherd's to me are the smartest dog on four legs
I would love to get a Belgian Malionis but the wife thinks it to much dog for me but I have a Belgian Tervuren he is very smart and ball driven. He’s learned how to let him self out the storm door without getting his tail caught. Best dog I’ve ever had.
Just get a show line mal! They aren't hard to own and are just like a bit more active dog😊
i have belgian malinois i love my dog is a nice dog and cute im from romania and love my belgian malinois and him have 7 months
Such a beautiful dog!
Handsome loving dogs. Want to help no matter the task..
Best dog in the world 😀😀😀
Great Video. I enjoy watching Annie with her dogs. Could do a video when she is going to compete?
Faoud Ali she competes all the time and the videos are on UA-cam
Wow, what a beautiful dog.
Hey Annie! Beautiful dog
Beautiful dog! He looks like a short haired Tervuren.
The Belgian Malinois seems extremely fit!!
Looks a healthy breed. One of the most favorite dog breeds of Armed Forces. That says a lot.
No it doesn't. What are you trying to say?
We have a malinois mix and this is not a beginners dog. The work ethic and drive is relentless. They need a lot of care, attention, and exercise, but they will work hard and with proper training are a wonderful dog. Their loyalty and work ethic is off the charts, just be aware of what you are getting into.
Absolutely love these dogs. Gorgeous breed
My family may be getting one this weekend 🙂🙂🙂 I’m so happy if we get my new best friend
you have already yours two german shepards!!they are yours!!!
He is beautiful!!!
You two are going to kill it! 😉
It's a cute pupper.
I love Clifford, the big red dawg.
thank you very informative! the Belgian has become my favorite dog breed but I'm now 61 y.o. shucks! I'd stl love to own one
I'm getting a malinois in a few weeks I'm so excited!!
Awesome keep up the good work
