wow - most people don't understand how difficult this is to play, and the passion it takes to get there (regardless if drums, xylophone, or... whatever instrument) - amazing!
I've listened to this over and over with my 3 year old daughter dozens of times. She's very interested in music and it's especially entrancing to see a young women absolutely dominate such a complex piece. Brava!
Wow🥹 Thank you. please tell her she’s welcome to ask me questions/reach out any time! I hope she experiments the joy of playing. Congratulations to you!
"Now play it reggae-style". That was incredible. There's a great interview with Vinnie Colliauto(?) talking about having to sight-read this at an audition. It's pretty funny.
He didn't sight-read this. He played it from memory, so Zappa gave him Pedro's Dowry to sight-read. But the story you're referring to is most likely Steve Vai's account of Vinnie sight-reading Mo 'N Herb's Vacation (when Vinnie was already in the band), which is even more difficult than The Black Page.
Well played!! I think it is awesome that today's youth are still experiencing and enjoying Frank's genius creations. I was fortunate to have seen Frank in concert back in '77.
Brilliant! The first time I listened to this I did not was aware of WHAT I was listening to. Then a jazz pianist advised me to "pay close attention to how the drummer (T. Bozzio) puts Frank's ideas on the drum set". So yes. FZ was a genius! and this performance is quite remarkable. Congrats Pauline. You really are into the percussion world! Bravo!
That was absolutely amazing!! What an outrageously good performance. The beauty and uniqueness in Frank's compositions really shines when the effort is made to perform them at this level.
The drums by themselves can seem confusing to listento, but having the marimba included adds all the context, and the notation really shows how crazy this piece. Brilliantly done!
@@paulinesounds I was lucky enough to meet him after a show in London's South Bank. He signed a setlist and took a selfie with me. I asked him "If they ever remake The Running Man, will you be in it?" and he looked confused, then smiled and said "no". I could have asked him anything about the music or his father, but for me absurdity is the only reality. :)
Super bien tu toque y ejecución. Me encanta la música que nos dejó Frank Zappa. Me gustaría un vídeo tuyo haciendo Peaches in regalia. Te mando un gran abrazo dónde quiera que estés. Viva la música.
My drum teach gave me the drum transcription for The Black Page on my first day. Yes, I had beginner lessons that day, but he said it was also good to start looking ahead as soon as possible. He advised to just keep looking at it, ask questions, follow up on those questions, and keep chiseling at it, and in a few years it'll all come together. I really appreciate his approach. It was fun to have this opaque beast always there in the background. Now I can play it. It really was mostly the nested tuples that presented the biggest challenge. Anyway, I LOVE your performance of this iconic piece.
Impecable! Me emociona ver instrumentistas jovenes que aprecian y mantienen vivo el legado de FZ. Y más cuando desbordan calidad y nivel musical. Espectacular, Pauline! Vamos ahora con Inca Roads!!
That took me back to the very first time I heard this on a bootleg cassette in 1988 and couldn't work out what I was listening to. I only knew that I liked it a lot. Very well played!
Wow wow so impressive....being a Zappa fan......also nice to see the score and me trying to follow? :) Maybe seen yours a few times but impressive, bravo!!!! Keep up the good work !
If anyone reading this isn't aware, this is God-Mode for percussionists. Spectacular. Frank would be proud.
🥹❤ thank you!!!
I agree! This is such an amazing piece in any form!
Frank and Ruth would be proud.
I agree! That was amazing! Great job! 👏👏👏👏
wow! fantastic, yes.
Zappa deserves far more appreciation than he gets from the average listener.
Do you think you're an elite listener because you like Zappa ? This is hilarious
Idk about 'elite' but most Zappa fans have at least a moderate level of ears
@@Alix777. Appreciation for something good isn't elitism.
just not suitable for the average listener. I have been arguing with my wife about his music for 44 years. Status Quo: no Zappa when she's home.
I'm not sure "average" listeners even know about Zappa.
The ability to perform this song, AND on two instruments is INSANE TALENT.
So good. I closed my eyes and thought I was listening to Ruth Underwood and Terry Bozzio.
And wishing for the Duke George on the keys
Or Ed Mann
Pauline is a worthy successor to Ruth.
Or, Zappaphiles, lol Ainsley Dunbar, or Chad Wackerman! And a perfecect Ed Mann!
Il est bon de voir des jeunes reprendre et de faire vivre ses œuvres. Zappa ne meurt pas grâce à vous ! merci
je t’en remercie! c’est le monde pour moi d’avoir ces mots

Great Googly Moogly ! Awesome .
how can 24 thousand watch this and not at least give it a thumbs up??
I've been listening to Zappa since 1969, and have seen him perform a dozen times. I approve of this performance. 🖤Bravo Pauline!🖤
What the hell??!! This is nuts! Phd level math! I cannot grasp (I mean it’s awesome)
Nailed bar 15 - that’s always a good omen for what else is to follow
Ruth Underwood would be proud. Also, enjoyed seeing how delighted you were at the end.

This is an astonishing performance of one of Frank Zappa's most difficult tunes. Well Done 🤩
Wow, one of the few impressive videos on the internet. A rarity!
Thank you for the kind words, but there are plenty of amazing artists out there! I suggest you to keep on looking for them and enjoy :)
This is delightful. I'm a bassist so Patrick O'Hearns accompaniment was always so cool to hear on this marvellous piece!!
Well played!! I think it is awesome that today's youth are still experiencing and enjoying Frank's genius creations.
I was fortunate to have seen Frank in concert back in '77.
Mr. Frank Zappa ...the greatest composer ....ever.
Absolutely stunning! Not only accurate but it also "feels right". Can't really describe it.
She captured the "eyebrows".

high praise! thank you so much!
So cool! 👍 From back in the days when they made music you could dance to!
Bravo 100/100 Ruth ❤
Brilliant work on this classic track Pauline
Wow, Pauline, this is awesome! Hi to Malcolm.
Absolutely flawless and brilliant! Bravo!
The drums by themselves can seem confusing to listento, but having the marimba included adds all the context, and the notation really shows how crazy this piece. Brilliantly done!
This is so good you'll have Dweezil telling you how awesome it is. Faultless :)
I hope to meet him someday! Thank you

Love Zappa and this is a masterpiece and you played it brilliantly.
Perfectly executed, great sound, great feel. I think I can say with certainty and confidence that the Swedish people as a whole is in awe.
glad to see that frank's music is being studied and played by young musicians, thank you and well done
Great! I think FZ would approve!
