@5putput Someone is jealous. VW is the last ones that will push electric. They are forced to do it by the market and governments. Plenty of other companies that supply just as much FWD appliances.
@5putput I don't think so, since everyone will go with electric cars. They have no choice, as you said if they don't do it, they will lose out. So they make sure they don't. Its just business, its the same in every industry. They certainly did not start the electric trend and would not have done it at all. They have too much investment in ICE. Tesla did this. As for the cars, a lot of their cars are better than competitors. There are companies who sell actual FWD shitboxes much worse than VW.
James, one important part about removing the top was missed. When unclipping the fluting buttresses, they need to be secured into the soft top. There are two opening that they clip into. This prevents them from shifting during the lowering of the top. If they get misaligned, the big aluminum trunk cover can have an issue closing. After 18 months of ownership, I had to learn that one.
Surely that's not his car with the cavalier approach to storing the top! Remember the "Boxster chop" from the early 986? It seems that it would help here too.
@@@aminemk6192 we share good taste. Truth be told, I may wait for PDK. I've only been on one track where it wrong gears me and it's in the same turn. I've been corrupted by Porsche technology.
Why do manufacturers insist on producing larger and larger vehicles!?! The horsepower wars also are seemingly ridiculous. When are we going to get a striped out, reasonably powered and sized handling tuned sports/supercar a'la Elise?
I'm going to say it. That's the best looking porsche on the market atm. Got to say I love a spyder for everyday b Road enjoyment and with a na 4.0l engine it's going on my wishlist. Yes porsche, yes.
This version of the Boxster Spyder, like this review is spot on! The roof setup seems a little counter-intuitive to me (to physically get out to complete the process seems long) but I do like the small buttress design. Whenever I see the rear, lights and central piece with Porsche badging (1:05) I can't help but see a modern VW Golf front styling!
That is such a German move. I've owned enough convertibles to tell you, the manual latching/unlatching is process is simplest and easiest part of putting the top up/down. Actually putting the top back is the hardest part, so they made the latch process automatic and then then retraction process manual. And before anyone talks about weight, honestly they should have just made the whole thing manual. All they've done, in my opinion, is given you something extra to brake on your car, without giving you much value. That is most definitely what I consider German engineering.
The buttresses clip into the upper part of the top. When you remove them you can see where they clip in. So they aren’t just folded awkwardly with the rest of the top.
Oops! Sorry JWW, this is your worst ever review. If Porsche wish to encumber you by sticking one of their cars in a field and prohibiting you from driving it, or even starting the engine (assuming it has an engine fitted), well I'd rather you left them to it and waited until you can run a proper review. Love the car but hate the proliferation of adverts for so little content. Sorry.
I like how it just falls in like a slinky and doesn't even effect storage. Love That double truoble cover on the spyder too Also the prosche configurator doesnt do the spyder rear end justice
I have a 981 spyder and am on the list for a 718. Thing is the 981 is lighter, sounds better and quick enough for the public highway. Crucialy the 981 has a softer front end to the 981 GT4 and the 718's and this is why many people prefer the spyder to the GT4 its just more usable on uk roads. Im not sure i would want a stiffer car so will probably stick with the 981. The roof BTW is a doddle, takes around 15 seconds when you get used to it. Andreas P said in his interview the only 2 options you need are folding buckets and a radio. I do like the way the deviated stitching now runs across and down the console thats better than the 981. I prefer the 981 aesthetically. Also with the 10% Porsche brexit surcharge the new car will be £100k for medium spec. Great vid thanks James.
At 1:49 if you take the time to look you would’ve noticed that there’s a hole on both sides of the buttress soft top that you can easily fit those clips into their designed place.
Is it possible to watch without advertisement before start? I tried xxxx time, no chance. Waiting for 5 second don't bother me I was just curious if its possible to avoid even those 5 seconds.
A 981 Spyder is a steal. I do believe it performs like a top down 981 GT4. 10 hp less but also weighs less. It is very far from a boxster GTS since it has a carrera s engine in it. It sounds A LOT better than 718 and the 981 GT4. The prices right now are also amazing. The only difference is that the suspension is single shot. Which makes it perfect for the canyons and road trips. For sure better than 981 GT4, since you can literally hear and feel everything with the top down. The echo of the stock exhaust is ridiculous. For the price difference, I believe the 981 is a better deal. I have driven both the 718 spyder and 981. Both are amazing. 718 is faster, but 981 is rawer. If you get a 718 spyder or GT4, make sure to leave a budget to get an exhaust as well. For 981 there will be absolutely no need for an after market exhaust, Porsche killed it with that stock exhaust.
very nice...first Boxster that appeals to me....you don't need any more power than that in a 1500kg sports car..manual gearbox/300bhp per tonne and rwd is the sweet spot
I have a GT4 which I will be retaining. I will be getting this Spyder with any colour other than white or black. I would get the best stereo system with standard seats plus navigation. Bring it on.
For reasonably priced one, lime green with pretty much standard black interior, with green seat belts with look very stunning and the price will be right too.
These spec reader bots are so human like nowadays, unreal ... but they also announce we won’t have to wait long until a true human sits in in it and presents this dynamic Spyder to us.
I would agree the Spyder is better looking than its brother the GT4 and for enthusiasts it's great Porsche will be producing both cars into 2021 so there will be more around to see and hear.
Good review actually showing us the car versus all the other boy racers that think we want to watch them drift around a track like they do in everything else.
David RF it’s a remodeled Boxster man - it’s nice but not $100k nice - same platform with some new molding which they do every other year - the nicest Boxster yet!! But a Boxeter nonetheless
@@jjames2162 This car is way closer to a Cayman GT4 than a damn Boxster. That's a fact, the guy even says it in the video, the specs speak for themselves. It is not a Boxster.

My favourite car to get first should I win the lottery has been the Aston Martin Vanquish S Volante. But the gorgeous Vanquish line-up is now dead and I'm heartbroken about it. But I've fallen in love with the Cayman platform and the new 718 GT4/Spyder is just what the doctor ordered!
Love these, can’t wait till they upgrade that old interior with the 21 release. No change since it was introduced back in 2012, cant believe they still kept it for the new 718 4.0!

Definetly with red roof and Spyder classic interior and GT2 buckets. Yet another Awesome product from Porsche GT department.

would have been great closing it out blipping the engine to hear the sound of the 6 in a boxster
I'm gonna buy one. I can't wait! That car is just phenomenal!
Best looking Porsche ever made in my opinion! Beautiful car, and I hate Porsche!
This would be the one I want for sure. Even over the GT4 Coupe'. I'd even pass up a GT3 RS for this.
Porsche and a Jww review. Already pressed like while I’m watching the add before the video 🤩😂
I personally think this 718 is the best looking one so far
Manually removing the top in 2019...wtf! ....lol. Well still a beautiful car - and the double bubble cover is really cool. I like it!
The big problem is having to get out and walk around to drop the top. Pointless seeing how small and light the new hydrodynamic rams are.
The boxster looks so much better now. No longer does it look feminine.

That’s not how you secure the top! The parts that stick into the Spyder Panel go into the roof panel and click into place
