    I got my DF83 From Joe, love it.

    Have still not committed to an espresso setup and really looking at the DF83 now instead of the DF64. But will not buy anything the next 6 month so will see what happens. Speed control would be really interesting and e few more burr options - but it seem solid as a platform already. Though I would like to see result for pour over once the burrs are more run in. This grinder and a Flair 58 is currently on the wish list for my espresso setup. - Thanks for this review!

      Thank you for watching. I am sure in the next 6 months there will be new iterations of both of them, possibly with RPM control although I don’t think it is necessary. One thing is certain, DF83 works really well with lever machines.

    You didn't modify the declumper at this point did you? I think the excessive fines had less to do with burrs being seasoned and more to do with the declumper screen being seasoned / bent out of the way, so it produces less fines as the flow of coffee grounds can flow quicker /easier. I didn't think it would be a problem because it flows so quick and nicely with the stock declumper and has not as much retention as DF64, however, I think because it grinds so fast, it NEEDS a faster flowing, less restrictive declumper screen.

      You are correct and I agree with your assessment although seasoning can still play a part. Btw I should have 83 HU burrs arriving soon. I want DF83 to become a pour over grinder in my setup.

      @@mycoffeeshow111 Nice let me know how they are, they should be good for espresso too! Actually they are espresso burrs. There's going to be some more 83mm burr options out soon I believe, the SSP Cast burrs which might be better for pour over, AND some cheaper non SSP options too! So I'm holding out on the SSP Espresso burrs for now.

    Jack- I know you still need to season the DF83 burrs a bit. Do you prefer the DF83 over the Niche for medium-medium dark roasts for espresso ?

    • @BensCoffeeRants
      @BensCoffeeRants 2 роки тому +3

      I've done a little testing of one vs the other, for me I found the DF83 had a similar taste profile, just a bit more flavour clarity and maybe less body but generally made smoother more enjoyable coffee vs the Niche Zero. None were bad. DF83 workflow is good but maybe not as nice / good as the Niche which is quieter, but also slower to grind! So lots of pros and cons. DF83 looks and feels like a heavy beast vs the light and cute Niche.
      If you do mainly milky drinks I think the Niche might be better due to more bitterness /intensity cutting through. While technically not as good for straight shots.

      @@stevee8609 I agree with Ben. I haven’t had a chance to get different burrs for DF83 but as it is I wouldn’t recommend to have both. I did a full video comparing them both

    I predicted the DF64 would do better since it's a higher clarity burr and I predict less fines.
    I was going to comment that the DF64 bed looked pretty bad, then saw the DF83 :D So much fines.
    SSP MP unimodal burrs don't have as large pre-breaker parts of the burrs like the inner part, so it takes a bit longer to grind I believe. Also has a higher pitch sound which is a little more shrill (DF83 with stock burrs is also more shrill sounding though).
    I agree with your assessments of the grinders.
