- It takes more than mere assertions to convince a thinking mind to believe in God. So what do you say when you meet an atheist? Is the Christian message really a sure thing? Do God's promises really come with ironclad guarantees? Today, we'll think about whether or not Christianity is an enormous leap of faith, and we will see what happens when former atheists take that step. i've usually found the common complaint among the general public agnostics and apatheists is regarding the state of the world, disease and suffering. For the Almighty God to seemingly not lift a finger while people die or terrible sickness all around seems like the ultimate sin of omission. And when the Christian says, oh he answered my prayer and saved my house from the tornado (that was free to go on and make everyone else's life a misery).
i think if God buttered up an atheist and cured all of his problems and the atheist was too consumed with his stuff. God could make an appearance in the clouds and say "You know what, you're a jerk, i fixed every last problem for you and not so much as a thank you!"
i also hear complaints regarding the Job story, God makes a bet with the devil that causes Job's whole family to die, then comes down with the same prideful refuse to apologise type behaviour that's supposed to be a sin in humans. (i assume he gets his family back in the future at the resurrection)
This was a great story, learning faith through fear. I really like the part where Mr. Judson finds his faith by getting to hear his best friend and the man he looked up to die in pain ( I am assuming) and all alone. God does work in mysterious ways.
The only thing I did like about this story was Mr. Judson missionary work and stuck to even through the hardships. Again to bad it was because of fear of death and not love of god or his fellow man( again assuming)
