    This video is a rare example. In most cases it’s going to be extremely hard to get the glue removed. If you’ve got stubborn glue that won’t come up the best method is an angle grinder with a concrete grinding/diamond cup wheel. Works every time and will take it down to bare concrete.

    • @squirts1
      @squirts1 2 роки тому +3

      that won't work on the goopy tacky glue

    • @CaptainBrassAss
      @CaptainBrassAss 2 роки тому +2

      @@squirts1 In that case you’re probably going to have to rent expensive machinery to get that kind of glue removed. Or you’d have to pour some carpet glue remover on it and let it sit. Then use a heavy duty scraper and remove as much as you can. Let that dry and now you can use the angle grinder with the concrete wheel to remove the rest of the glue and get it down to bare concrete. Either way it’s going to be a tough job.

    After more than 30 years in the business I have some great ideas and only share with people who are good and trying to be the best they can be. When working with that glue that's still sticky you mentioned I throw dry floor patch around then sweep it around before patching the floor ( makes a mess if you aren't careful). Nothing worse than having your knee pads stick to the floor.

After all new homes were sold and this model home was the last one on the lot so they converted the office room back to garage. Carpet glue is over the garage floor. I experienced a flood, the house is a rental and 1968. The carpet is old & im told it’s glued. Since it was flooded from a failed sump pump and has been wet since Thursday, how hard is it to DIY rip out the carpet? What should we try or should we just hire? Landlord had no flood insurance and the carpet stinks after he paid Stanley to get as much water out. I don’t think he has the money for carpet and it’s a basement that’s used for laundry only…

    • @FloorsbySouthernboys
      @FloorsbySouthernboys  Рік тому +1

      You should be able to get the carpet up fairly easy, I would take a screwdriver or something like that and get it a corner started and see how easy it’s going to come up before I determined that I was going to do it. Once you get the corner started, you can grab it and start pulling on it to see just how easy it’s going to work. If you do decide to take it up yourself then, you’re going to want to cut it in strips about 1 to 2 foot or 3 foot wide and take it up in pieces like that. Depending on how hard it is to get up will determine how wide you need your strips cut.

    Would that scraper work on a wood patio? The glue is old and the outdoor carpet is coming right up. We are replacing the carpet but we’re concerned it won’t adhere old glue to new glue 😳

    It is a lot harder than that it is a pain in the butt to get up . Fifteen years the carpet had been down . We must have used the strongest glue on Earth .

      www.fbsb.store/product/better-tools-8-hd-floor-scraper/74.
      If you are a DIY you could probably find one cheaper on Amazon, one that isn’t so heavy duty, the key is having good razor blade in it at all times

    Will the scraper work on plywood sub floor?

      Mike Malone Yes, but you might have to turn the plane around backwards and put the sharp edge in the scraper and use the blunt and to scrape the glue

    The previous owners of the house I just bought, glued down carpet on our front porch with no tack strip. It’s just straight on the concrete. We haven’t even tried to remove it yet, but you can already kind of see it’s going to be really sticky and difficult to get off. Any suggestions??

      Rachel Thurow I have used denatured alcohol with razor scrapers in the past, unfortunately it is quite a mess, so good luck

    I'm also going to be doing a 22,000 sqft ballroom in the world trade centre here in NS. The carpet has been ripped up and glue is dry. How long did it take you to complete that job.
