My Mom passed away 2 1/2 years ago. Her stash was monstrous. 55 years of stash... It is now part of my already reasonably sizable stash. I think there were a few hundred fat quarters, a hundred or so larger pieces. 3 large plastic bins full of every size scrap. I have had to organize the mountain. All of the fat quarters are folded onto index cards, the larger pieces folded onto comic book cards. I am down to the last tub of usable scraps which are being cut into 2.5 inch strips, 2.5 inch squares, 3.5 inch squares, 5 inch squares, and 10 inch squares. Then, there were the 10 unquilted tops, another dozen or so ufo's in various states of being worked on. I found an embroidered baby quilt that only needed a binding in time for Mom's first great grandchild to be honored with it. 5 other baby quilt tops finished but not quilted. Holy buckets. Almost all of the tops have been finished for my brothers and sisters, or for the grandchildren who hadn't yet received their graduation quilts. Just one of those yet to go. A little overwhelming. But precious.
I went to a woman's house who was selling fabric by the yard. I bought everything she had for $500. Once I unpacked it all and saw how much stuff there was. Added it up like you did and it was over $3,500. SCORE. I made her a quilt with some of it.
One of my best memories with my mom, now deceased, was going to a woman's house and buying fabric by the yard. We had the best time going through her stash. I ended up with what mom bought when she passed. Enjoyed seeing these fabrics as well.
Wow, what a blessing. My mother passed away in 1990 and I was a 10 hr trip away and when I went through her material she had over 3- 10gallon plastic containers full of what were mostly 10 yard cuts. She would send me fabric to sew clothes for my 2 girls and my son. That was always a precious gift to me. And I have some from my grandmother that she bought at Woolworth's for 10cents a yard(yes, with the tag still on them. I like to incorporate a few pieces on my quilts I gift. !!
Yes. When my pal and I worked full time we would shop on the weekend for fabric and yarn. Problem was there was no time to sew. We figured we would use in retirement. Unfortunately she died before she retired. I work less hours now and daytime finds me in sewing room. Nights at crochet. My stash is immense. A lifetime supply. I do not shop for fabric anymore and stopped the yarn buying addiction for 2024. So glad that I bought when prices were lower and we caught every sale.
Shopping for fabric and making quilts are two separate hobbies. 😂 Your mom got her money's worth from the pleasure of shopping. Knowing you'll make beautiful quilts from fabric that is now worth $0 to her, but has so much sentimental value, is a double pleasure for her.
❤😊 What Great Gift Box, Woo, Woop too Ur Mom, watching in such Aw... Happy Creating with all them Wonderful Gifted Gems!! Enjoying Mom's Joy's too share, I'm in Huge Aw!! Blessings ❤😊
OMG! LOVE, LOVE, LOVE Batiks! You are one lucky lady. Hope you use them & perhaps find out why some people are absolutely in love with Batik fabrics. They are my favorites - next to no fraying, nearly identical on both sides and, of course, the most incredibly beautiful colors & patterns. 😍
Just watched your latest video on the fabrics I gave you. I did not realize how much was there! And there is more for you to check out. I know you will put it to good use.🥰 love you.
Oh my!!! Those batiks are absolutely awesome. I love batiks, and hopefully will be able to get some to make a quilt with. I just started quilting about a year ago; so I am still building my stash. Of course, you could always send all those batiks to me!!! LOL. Beautiful!!!!!!!!!! Love your channel; love watching you!! I have learned a lot of quilting info from you. Keep up the good work!!!!
Absolutely beautiful batiks…you will LOVE sewing with them! A friend of mine gave me hundreds of dollars of fabric…batiks and cottons…because she doesn’t sew anymore. I only got the colors I wanted and she still has much, much more. I consider myself so lucky to have her as a friend. Donna Jordan of Jordan Fabrics does a lot of quilts with batiks. If you haven’t checked out her UA-cam channel, you should.
Love, love love the batiks! Use the brown tones with some reds, oranges for a great fall wall hanging, or throw quilt. The greens and reds are great for Christmas projects. Use your wonderful imagination, and have some fun
I'm with you. I am not a big fan of batiks and I don't really have a reason but I generally don't go for them. I am a big fan of yours. I just love watching your videos. You are fun and just so down to earth. You also do beautiful work but make things fun and easy.
May we all - at some point - give such an awesome gift to our daughters! I’m thrilled for both of you & your sweet relationship. I will be fascinated to watch what they become. Hmmmm…I think these fabrics will be talking to you! Enjoy. Please tell your mom how we enjoyed your delightful presentation!
I am with you, I never have been a fan of them, but what an amazing gift! I'm certain you will make something fantastic! Be sure to show us.The goldish one you held up had a chicken wire pattern on it. Great video! Have fun!!!
I love the lighter colors of batiks. The dark ones look "muddy" to me. I also think they are easy to cut and sew, and I don't starch them. You are one lucky lady to get all that fabric! 😊
How wonderful, to share love this way! Your Mom gives fabric to you with love, you sew with love, you make quilts for those you love...I guess "love" is your word for 2024!!! Hugs from Canada.
WOW! I am so glad your mom gave that to you. You are so right, fabric is very expensive. I think the dark batiks would be perfect for masculine quilts. Have fun with you haul.
What a wonderful haul and you are blessed that you can still ask your mom about them. I’ll bet she has a story or 2. I had the opposite thing happen. My daughter passed her stash on to me when I started quilting!
What a blessing to receive so much gorgeous fabric. I love every piece. I used to never biy solids, but I found that it is good to mix them in with all my other prnts. Also, Edyta Sitar of Laundry Basket Quilts often mixes batiks and cotton prints on her quilts. I love all the batik colors too. The browns would make great man quilts, and the brighter colors I would use in some Hawaiian applique.
You might just find a new love for batik! I’ve never bought any, but if I got them gifted like that, I’d be having a lot of fun using them. The colors your mom gave you are just beautiful
I love batiks. I bring back a good stock of them from Indonesia where I’ve lived during a year They were less expensive their than in France. Thanks you for sharing Take care and enjoy your quilting’s time
Looks like Mom is going to turn you into a Batik and solid lover. You are blessed she gave it all to you. The “Whitewashed Cottage” was a 3 Sisters who may now be Ruby Star Society. Mom has beautiful taste!!❤ Definitely a drool worthy video. Tracy thank you for sharing this with us!!💙🪡🧵
OMG! I am SEVERAL colors of envy, not just green! In a good way though, I am very happy for you! Who doesn't love a goo "score!" I am a batik lover! I am thinking your mom could adopt me? IDK! OMG! That sandscapes one is my favorite!
I ADORE Brenda Riddle fabrics. She is by far, my favorite designer. 3 sisters is a close 2nd. My mom has gifted me with a ton of fabric as well. A lot of it is not in my preferences, but I appreciate her gifts and will use them with gratitude. Have fun with your projects!❤
I really enjoyed you sharing. It brought me such wonderful memories about my Mom. She loved flowers, and Spring was her favorite season. God took her home on The first day of Spring 21 years ago. I thought that was awesome.
Your mom has great taste! I guess we know where you got it from. This gives me flash backs to 2022 when my grandmother who is in declining health decided that she need to downsize and get rid of her sewing room because she doesn't sew anymore. My Mom is the only daughter that sews but she is also downsizing so they offered it to me. Kid you not I got everything... except the room itself. Her sewing embroidery machine and a serger. a Koala cabinet, cutting table, filing cabnets full of patterns and fabrics a ton of fabric and notions and all kinds of UFOs lol we are still sorting through everything but she wanted it to go to someone that would appreciate and use it instead of good will or someone that would just sell it. Thank you for sharing your joy I am looking forward to seeing what you make with these fabrics.
That is quite a haul! I love batiks, especially the ones with the small designs - like the aztec-y one you found in the brown group. Try the browns as a neutral with your favorite brighter colors - brown comes from orange, so those hot tones will look great next to it!
I am a lover of Batiks! I love the colors and the designs on the fabric. Working with them is so nice, they have a different feel from quilting cotton. They are stiffer, I get more accurate seams and the combination of colors on a quilt or wallhanging is amazing.
I can’t wait to see what you make with all of this fabulous fabric! Can you please show some of what your mom has made? Why did she quit sewing? I hope she is doing well. She seems like my kind of gal , fabric-wise. One more thing: more Josephine! What a darling! And you have a grandson? I look forward to seeing you quilt every week or so. I save your videos for when I have a good long quiet time to watch and rewatch You have taught me so much! Thank you! ❤❤❤
I love brown a lot, and specially batticks, love brow with crème and oker colors, specially for fall, buth I just love nature colors always, greetings carla
OMG, what a blessing to receive all these batiks, precuts and yardage! I love batiks! Your mom has really good taste if choosing fabrics. I know you want to know the worth, but since they came from your mom, you should use them and create quilts for all the family, and maybe sell some of the quilts. She would love that.
Those batiks are beautiful! Batiks are expensive I tend to buy them when they are on the sale wall at local quilt shop. Yep you need to make something for your mom! All the fabric she gave you is beautiful now you are set for life with your fabric stash!😊 That red, white and blue material would look beautiful in a quilt of valor.❤
I love batiks, I’ve made a few quilts with them. Lov precuts. When my mil developed dementia I inherited her “stash”. Lots of florals and rather dated solids. I shared with a quilting friend or two.
3 Sisters are my favorite designers. Their Sanctuary line is so pretty. They do two different sets of colors so any time I get new, it will go with something of theirs I already own. Your Mom is a ROCKSTAR for passing that all to you! It’s absolutely lovely!
I moved my mom from Calif to Nebraska in Oct 2023. I gave away 16 totes (18-gallon) of fabric. I wasn’t really sewing then, but also couldn’t bring it all back with us so I gave it all to a lady I know. She’s a hoarder of fabric 😂 so I know I can get some of it if I ever go back to visit my friends. I did manage to bring some of her fabric home
I am a batik devotee! I mix it with cottons & something about black accents… Batik makes a magnificent pineapple block & New York Beauty! Ask the Quilting Marine!!! I believe Tea Mah’s fav was the Fossil Fern. Remember, if you don’t like it, you aren’t cutting it small enough! 😂 Have fun!
My Internet connection messed up yesterday about 23 minutes in, and then I had somewhere to go, so I'm finally back again on Saturday! What an amazing treasure trove!! Bless your Mom! I just got to the part about the cost. The thing is, I have tons of other fabrics, too. A lot that can be used for clothes. (and I hate to say, for COVID masks!!! LOL!!!) Not as much for quilts. So, yes! probably close to $2K. It's time for me to either start sewing again, or to donate it to some organization that helps
Hi Tracy…you have been blessed to receive all these fabrics from your mom! Like you, I am not drawn to the batiks. And I don’t know why. I bought a batik jelly roll years ago, and have never used them! Looking forward to see how you use them!
That is a fantastic haul!! And gift. Wow. And I have observed that sewists whose mom’s are/were also are ahead in the game. 👍. I do like batik’s but I don’t have any. They are so specific in color value and feel.
I sewed clothing for my daughter and son, husband. Matching flannel shirts, so cute. Never sewed quilt tops. When my mother in law passed, I got her sewing machine and three big black garbage bags of fabrics....all in pieces, ufo’s, smaller bags of triangles. I managed to get four quilt tops out of her stash. I got into quilting when we drew lines, traced cardboard templates, hand cut with scissors. One quilt was all corduroy, I put it together and it needed one more color of this very fine corduroy. I thought I might have in the attic a pair of my sons baby footed pants in a bright yellow. Same wale and just enough for that last square. Turned out beautiful.
You got a great haul from your mother. I like batiks and I've seen some lovely quilts but it's not something I use often. Looking forward to see how you use all those beautiful fabrics.
Wow! What a blessing! I'd never get rid of any fabric. If you sew for others there will always be someone who'll like them. I love batiks! The colors are brilliant and saturated and they dont fray. I wish I could afford them more often. Cant wait to see what you make with some of those! Have an awesome day Tracy!
Batik Fans, pls check out Jordan Fabrics as they've been having sales on both yardage & precuts, of many of the Batik lines they carry. Am a major Batik lover, so I see this stuff. I'm not affiliated w/ them, but am a fan & watch their UA-cam often (Donna quilts & does the Tutorials, her Husband Matt does the precutting & (I think) the kit-making). Recent sales of theirs advertised btwn 20 - 40% off on diff. Batik groups.
I’m making a beautiful Jacob’s Ladder with different color and design batiks! It’s really a quilt I need to finish it’s really pretty. I’ve been piecing on it now since 2009 🙃 You have acquired a nice variety of batiks that would make a lovely scrap batik quilt 🥰 I only use batiks with batiks I had collected the pretty ones from over the years it would be a nice sentiment even if you made the quilt and presented it to your mom as a Christmas gift. 🎁💝I’m sure she’d love it especially since she’s no longer sewing! What a blessing of such beautiful fabrics 🥰

I wish I could leave a stand alone comment. But for some reason UA-cam isn't allowing it on your video. I love all of the batiks! They are gorgeous!
Wow. You're going to honor and think of her with everything you make. ❤️
I bet that your mom was grateful to be able to give the fabric to someone she loves. Congrats on having such a loving mom.
I went to a woman's house who was selling fabric by the yard. I bought everything she had for $500. Once I unpacked it all and saw how much stuff there was. Added it up like you did and it was over $3,500. SCORE. I made her a quilt with some of it.
How nice of you to make her a quilt ❤️
Thats serendipity 😊
One of my best memories with my mom, now deceased, was going to a woman's house and buying fabric by the yard. We had the best time going through her stash. I ended up with what mom bought when she passed. Enjoyed seeing these fabrics as well.
So lovely from you to make her a quilt out of her choice off fabric ❤

Fabric prices are outrageous now. At 72 I am so thankful for my stash so that I can continue my quilting hobby.
I’m also 72 and began building my stash 30 yrs ago. So thankful, even tho fabric was expensive then. I have SO enjoyed quilting thru the years💕🧵
Yes. When my pal and I worked full time we would shop on the weekend for fabric and yarn. Problem was there was no time to sew. We figured we would use in retirement. I am 74 and feel the same way as you.
Omg. Gorgeous batiks. I love them all.
Sad your mom can’t see any more. Now you have her stash, love it. It meant lots to her.
Shopping for fabric and making quilts are two separate hobbies. 😂 Your mom got her money's worth from the pleasure of shopping. Knowing you'll make beautiful quilts from fabric that is now worth $0 to her, but has so much sentimental value, is a double pleasure for her.
“Shopping for fabric and making quilts are two separate hobbies”, I relate & couldn’t agree more 😂💕

Lots of gorgeous materials. Make rope baskets out of your beautiful batiks. You’ll never be without something to do.
The quilts I've made for people that are not my choice of colors surprisingly turn out to be some of my favorites!
Wow!! those batiks are beautiful..your one lucky lady
I"ve never seen a lot of those batiks. So pretty. I love sewing batiks. Nice seaming and pressing.
Wow. What a wonderful gift. Love all your new fabrics. I know you will put them to good use!
April🎉
I absolutely LOVE BATIKS! How lucky are you to have been given all this fabric by your sweet mom. ❤
Your Mom was probably so happy to pass it onto her favorite UA-cam star. Lucky you!
Absolutely beautiful batiks…you will LOVE sewing with them! A friend of mine gave me hundreds of dollars of fabric…batiks and cottons…because she doesn’t sew anymore.
I'm crazy about batiks. I love the look and feel of them. The blues/purples are my favourites
I love batiks, you can do so much with them. I love them for backgrounds
Your Mum obviously had a love of fabrics and great taste. I know you can do justice to all her fabrics. That'll give her great pleasure.
what a lovely gift. i also like batics for their colour and texture, they work well in art quilts as well.
I love batik’s. I didn’t at first until I walked into a quilt shop in Largo, FL. I’ve been in love ever since.

😅I love using batiks. They can draw all the colours in a quilt together if you find the right one. Such rich colours!

Take care and enjoy your quilting’s time
Amazing! Great gift! All beautiful!
What a wonderful gift! My mind immediately visualized a quilted tree skirt with the Christmas patterns. Maybe because i love Christmas.
You are so lucky to have had your mom gift you all of that. That is great.
I absolutely love batiks! Lucky!
Yes, I absolutely love boutiques. I really hope you have fun with them
You're so blessed to have your mom give you all of these gorgeous fabrics and especially all of the batiks 😊

Wow!! Fantastic collection of beautiful fabrics!!! Definitely a treasure!!!
Batiks make pretty geometric patterns and collages. Congrats on your haul🎉

I love batik’s they’re beautiful! What a beautiful wonderful gift!!!!!
I LOVE BATIKS!! LOVE!! They are wonderful to sew with!!
What a lovely mom to be so generous! If it was my mom I would make her something from it. I love batiks! I'm envious of those!
I am so jealous! 😂 I love batiks! You just got all the great fabrics without the guilt! 😂
I adore batiks! I made my daughter a batik quilt for Christmas a year ago and she loved it. 🥰
It just goes to show you how serious we quilter and fabric lovers are...Way to go Mom.
