Tracy, I have been sewing since I was a teenager at home and way back when they used to have home economics! Yes, I am old. I used to sew my 3 children's clothes when material and patterns were cheap! I loved it. I learned a lot from my Mom by using whatever I had. Actually, I sewed my kindergarten daughter a Christmas dress out of satin curtains!!! Lol . I LOVE your ideas! The ruler hook is genuis!!! I have started making quilts but was getting aggravated about the 1/4 in seam allowance and not back stitching. Thank-you, Thank-you, Thank-you!!! I learned today that there's no one who's going to judge me or put me in jail if I do it the way my Mom taught me...always back stitch and line up fabric along the foot to sew! I truly don't know why I let videos and quilters convince me that was the only way it is done because it's not!!! Now, maybe I can get back to loving sewing again!!! You're a gem!!!!
On the handles for holding, I put a shower safety handle on my long 26'' x 6'' ruler. It works wonderful and haven't had any more of my wrist hurting me. Fabulous
Clever and nifty ideas all of them… the ruler and commandhook idea was GENIOUS .. I am not much of a sewer but I do tinker around with moms sewing machine when I am bored… the ruler idea , I will use ot when I make graphite pencil drawings and sketches. I will help me draw perfect accurate line without messing up. Thank you.. ❤
Remember the baker's who used to wrap your goodies in a box and then tie it together with string? Then the string was cut with a device on a ring? Well, that was invented by my deceased father's grandfather, a man from NYC, named Seamon. Really.
We use pool noodles for camping too. We use large ones as awning pole guards on our trailer and small ones for tent guidelines to keep the littles and intoxicated adults from tripping over them.
When trying to cut your pool noodles use an electric knife. Cuts through pool noodles or foam like a champ. I use it in my profession when making splints or using foam pieces to make supports for wheelchairs etc. Really saves the wear and tear on your fingers from trying to use scissors.
Thank you… I did not think of it but it sure is a great idea whoever did think of it.✅ my brand new pool noodle video is out… You should check it out on my channel I just uploaded it this week.✂️👍
The finger knife brought back memories as I worked for Sears and Roebuck (now just called "Sears") in the late 1960s when I was in high school. We had one of those for I believe our pinky finger to cut strings, as young as I was that was one tough job.
I love old Singer Sewing machines. I own three Singers (221, 301, and 328K). Those old Singers are beautiful hard working machines. I have never seen a finger hook before. That would have been very handy back when I worked in a factory that made jeans (we used snips that had a built on finger ring).
I use a shoe holder hung on my wall behind my sewing machine to hold all my tools. The clear pockets make it so easy to see them all and you could alter some by cutting and sewing a few to different sizes.
I use old tie racks attached with screws to the edge of my cutting table on the skirt trim that supports the table top for small tool access as well. Yes, the shoe holder is wonderful for many useful storage needs. I hang one (canvas) on the back of my bedroom door for all the stretch straps for physical therapy exercises along with a jewelry clear bag hung over it for all those sheets of special instruction. Helps with the stiffness that comes with all that sitting and stretching when we sew for hours 😆
I still have the finger knife I use for cutting strips off the magazine bundles while working at the post office. I love it and didn’t think of using for my sewing tools! Great tip!
Funny to see your finger hook because we had to have those for work at the sewing factory.I still use mine . It’s about 60 years old and still very handy.nice to see it on your video sure brings back memories thanks❤🎉
I have arthritis too. I’m so grateful that you shared the command hook idea! Please suggest some more ideas that have helped you with function with arthritis
Would Love Any Tools & Tricks to help alleviate and lessen pain and stiffness from arthritic fingers. I crochet which is recommended for therapy for arthritis in the hands and joints. Thank you.
I think the command hooks would help with a ruler storage idea. You could have a piece of dowel or curtain rod and use the hook to place your rulers over it.
That finger knife, I haven’t seen one of those since the 60’s. My dad worked for Electric Hose and Rubber in Delaware. He would bring those home with him.
I love my old Singer machines. I inherited an old hand crank model that has had a motor added but it came with so many attachments that are being sold today as " New" plus an old tredale rehearsing drawers full of attachments again included
Ruler hook is genius. But it’s best to let it sit for ~24 hours for the adhesive to cure before using it. Also make sure the ruler is really clean. I use an alcohol wipe on the area I want to stick a command strip to, then let it dry thoroughly, then stick. Gets rid of any possible traces of oil like from fingers that might interfere.
@@hartsarah12 A trick I just heard about but haven’t tried yet for some really slick surfaces is to use a Magic Eraser sponge GENTLY on the area where you want to stick it, then alcohol. The Magic Eraser is a very fine abrasive so it can scuff up the surface just enough that you get better grip. Though this might make a mark on the surface you’re using it on so I’d proceed with caution.
One of my favorite odd tools is an automotive dent puller that you can get at Harbour Freight or in Canada 🇨🇦 Princess auto, the handle has a non slip grip and it's a just a bit higher the suction cup ruler handles that are made for quilting rulers the only real difference is that it's bright orange which makes my ruler easy to find when it gets buried in fabric on my cutting table and it's priced for less than $10. Which means more fabric $$$. I borrowed my friends quilting ruler handle and I actually prefer the dent puller handle I also have arthritis in my hands and I found it more comfortable and easier to hold
I loved this video. It gave me a really good idea. I have a shower handle that wouldn’t stick to the shower wall. My cutting blade slipped not too long ago and cut off a sensitive part of my left index finger. So I decided to see if it would stick to my cutting ruler. It does and it works so great. No more cutting my fingers. I was so elated about this idea. I just hope that the neighbors couldn’t hear me shouting, "Yes, Yes, Yes, Yes, Yes”
I love the wall protector! I have cut one just like it for my bedroom door. We don't have air conditioning so in the summer we leave the windows open. This helps the door from slamming shut in the breeze. That slam is loud and this works great! Love the video will be checking out ur others!
I totally understand about arthritic fingers! It was always so frustrating when I struggled to maneuver the ruler on a flat surface. With the hook- no more struggle ❤️✅
Some great ideas there. I like the way you use the finger knife but if I am honest with myself I could see this one ending in band-aids for me. It would look lethal with me using it. haha
Love the tips! I'm not a quilter but I use heavy cardboard tubes in the same way for prepping fabric for tracing and cutting large projects, minus any adhesives (can't afford that route). Really appreciate the tips and would love to see a full tutorial 😀

Great idea!!!!!🤓👍✂️
Yes! I would!
My husband used a ring knife to cut the tie tape when he worked in vineyards, attaching grape vines to the trellis. Commonly used in agriculture.

Awe! Hopefully all good memories 💛 ? A lot of new sewers don’t know about the finger knife ✅👍so I figured it would be a great odd sewing tool ✂️🤓

Thank You! You Take Care Also 🤗
I have that ring knife from working in a newspaper circulation warehouse! Never thought of using it for sewing!
Awesome!👍👌
I think the command hooks would help with a ruler storage idea. You could have a piece of dowel or curtain rod and use the hook to place your rulers over it.
Loved the 3M command hook idea. Definitely using that one!
That finger knife, I haven’t seen one of those since the 60’s. My dad worked for Electric Hose and Rubber in Delaware. He would bring those home with him.

Genius hack with the wall hook! Off to Home Depot in the morning. 😁👍🏽
I use a 2x4 boards for this. They are longer and do not bend and can be stored up right when not in use. Love your videos!

Wow, you had some great ideas! Thanks for sharing your knowledge.
You are so welcome!
I've had on of the finger knives since 1968!
Great! Then you are all set✅ they are awesome in the sewing room✅
Great video. You could also use a stick on phone stand/holder to adhere to your ruler for easy pick up. I think they're called poppers.
*_That's a great idea!🤓✅_*
Ran across you video, I haven’t quilted in years...your video is calling me back😉
Welcome back!✂️ I’m glad you came across my video. Quilting is a lot of fun!🤓
Loved the finger knife- till I forgot and pushed my hair out of the way--- You got it instant hair cut.
Oh my lol 😂 for sure!
Thank you, thank you! I am a novice with lots of relatives sewing tools I was gonna give away, like the cutting board. Thanks for the inspiration! 👍

Great tip on cleaning it with alcohol first✅✂️🤓
Hmm that may be why mine never work. I do not let them sit.

The ruler hook to rule them all!

That’s a twine cutter., I used to cut off the twine after tying up bundles of newspapers.,
I’m learning it has so many “useful uses”. ✅ thx for adding to the list of uses 👍🤓✂️✅
We called them "ring knives" at the post office years ago. We used them to cut string and plastic straps from mail bundles.
Please do a full tutorial on using the pool noodle, thanks.
Here’s the link. It’s been done for awhile ✅ ua-cam.com/video/I0j7u8bGW7A/v-deo.html
The last will help a lot! I have trigger fingers certain actions lock my fingers. Thank you for sharing .
*_Happy to help! It's amazing how that little hook really does help 🤓✅_*
All excellent ideas. Thanks 💙
Love your command hook idea. Maybe using a vintage small empty spool of thread would work also. Good way to repurpose.
I really like the hooks for your rulers
I loved this video. It gave me a really good idea. I have a shower handle that wouldn’t stick to the shower wall. My cutting blade slipped not too long ago and cut off a sensitive part of my left index finger. So I decided to see if it would stick to my cutting ruler. It does and it works so great. No more cutting my fingers. I was so elated about this idea. I just hope that the neighbors couldn’t hear me shouting, "Yes, Yes, Yes, Yes, Yes”
Try a slip slide sewing mat for quilters on your larger table attachment. Designed for free motion quilting, they work well for your problem.
OMG the pool noodle! I t wonder if that would work on a dock saving the boat rubbing against the dock... I'll let you know how it goes
Maybe...try and see🤷🏻♀️
I love the wall protector! I have cut one just like it for my bedroom door. We don't have air conditioning so in the summer we leave the windows open. This helps the door from slamming shut in the breeze. That slam is loud and this works great! Love the video will be checking out ur others!
Great!!!🤓✂️✅
I’m going to try the ring cutter.
Love no 5 I have arthritis also in my hands and I do find picking up my rulers really hard so I am going to do this right away!!

Ring knives are a Post Office staple.

What GREAT ideas!
#5 is BRILLIANT! I think it will be both easier and more precise for me to place the ruler with the modification you showed. :-). Thank you!
Awesome Mary! Let me know how it works for you! 🤓✅
You are so stinking clever! Love the command hook idea. Arthritis is the pits. Heading to the Good Will soon!
The hook works like a charm💛
Thank you heaps for all this! My arthritic fingers and thumbs are so grateful for #5
I totally understand about arthritic fingers! It was always so frustrating when I struggled to maneuver the ruler on a flat surface. With the hook- no more struggle ❤️✅
Some great ideas there. I like the way you use the finger knife but if I am honest with myself I could see this one ending in band-aids for me. It would look lethal with me using it. haha
LOL😂🤕
Love the tips! I'm not a quilter but I use heavy cardboard tubes in the same way for prepping fabric for tracing and cutting large projects, minus any adhesives (can't afford that route). Really appreciate the tips and would love to see a full tutorial 😀
*_Thanks for watching....the full tutorial is out :) check it out on my channel 😉_*
