  • If you're always hungry on carnivore or keto (or any diet), here is one potential cause.
PS: Check out my website: www.lifeanddiy... for even more content. I just updated my site and will be posting regularly. - Holly
    Study Mentioned: bit.ly/4bc3fgC
    Key Points from the Study:
    • Chronic sucralose diet triggers increased food intake
    • Dietary sucralose creates a sweet/energy imbalance
    • This activates a neuronal starvation response
    • Sucralose effect on feeding is conserved from flies to mammals

This happened to me when I thought I was on a keto diet but I was not really in ketosis. When in ketosis, most people’s appetite is greatly reduced. The way to solve the problem is very simple - measure ketones! If your body produces .5mmol/L of ketones or more then you are in ketosis and you won’t be very hungry. Many influencers, including famous ones with PhDs mislabel a diet as keto by focusing on low carbs without measuring ketones. I was on a lean carnivore diet eating zero carbs. The misinformed doctors would call my diet a keto diet because I was not eating carbs. When I learned that I was not on a real keto diet because I was not producing measurable ketones, only then I was able to modify my diet by eating more fatty meat. Then I was able to enter ketosis (by real measurements and not assumptions). Once I finally was on a real keto diet I was not hungry. Many times I have to remind myself to eat because I don’t want to lose any more weight. I recommend teaching people the difference between a real keto diet based on the production of ketones and a fake keto diet based on assumptions.

Thanks for sharing this! For me, I was in ketosis above 0.5, but had this issue from the stevia. It's always good to check ketones with a finger-stick device. It's definitely important to know what's going on with the body. It's also important to know that once you lose a lot of body fat and are super lean, you might have an increase in the appetite (even when in ketosis) as every meal is so important for the body (if you have little for fat reserves).

Good to hear that your sleep has improved Holly! Did your 'High Energy drink' contain Caffeine.? For some people high caffeine intake can lead to sleep problems, and other side effects. It seems we don't fully know the long-term health effects of so many things. Stevia is one of many things where research is ongoing. So we're still the 'guinea pigs. I don't know what else we can do other than experiment with what might work for us personally.? 🤷‍♂

Very helpful info! I also had an issue with stevia. I used to use it in my morning tea AND it was in my Natural Calm magnesium flavored powder. I was having heart palps for years and did not know why! Turns out, stevia can cause low blood pressure and mine is already on the low side, so I finally figured it out, quit stevia, problem SOLVED. I only use unflavored mag powder now too. I now use glycine powder in my tea and raw honey in everything else!

Thanks for sharing this too. I didn't know Natural Calm also had stevia in it. So interesting that it caused heart palpitations. Those can be kind of scary or unsettling to have. I'm so glad to hear the issue is gone. And, do you take glycine in your tea in the mornings? I think it would make me sleepy! I agree with you on the honey. I think that's much better than these artificial sweeteners.

The only thing I want to say this is that stevia is usually tied with dextrose in most packets and anywhere you go to buy stevia packets, there are a very few selections that don’t contain dextrose. Dextrose is what causes problems bc it’s the highest on the (GI) glycemic index, where stevia is 0. And some companies count dextrose as a natural flavor, like LMNT when it is not .
Also stevia isn’t an artificial sugar, its own plant. And by itself it is safe

For years, I've noticed this weird chicken-and-egg-correlation in my friends and family whereby the most chronic consumers of artificial sweeteners are also the most morbidly obese. Logic would, of course, suggest that people use zero-cal' sweeteners BECAUSE they are overweight, not the other way around. It would scoff at the idea that people could become overweight because they use zero cal' sweeteners. But more and more scientific research is beginning to question that assumption. And back up your own observations.
Aspartame is a particular no-no because it is toxic in its own right. It was developed as an insecticide.
On the upside, it's good that you are developing such a finely tuned understanding of your own body, Holly. I just wish this bio-hacking could give us another 150 years to play with because I feel as if we could spend the first 100 just sloughing off all of the false conceptions that are fed to us by society and corporations. And the only way to truly do that is by trial and error and experimentation. And thoughtful observation of human behavior.
And maybe moving to a cabin in the woods to get away from all of the mad ***ers. 😀
    And quietly living.
BTW, if you get too energetic on that trampoline, you'll put your head through the ceiling. I'm not saying you shouldn't, I'm just saying that maybe you should film it and upload it for clicks. But it would be a shame because it's such a pretty head and it would get all gnarly and squished like a windfall-apple.
Actually, maybe focus on the compliment and disregard the bits on either side. I think I just did the brain-fart-thing again.

Have always stayed away from artificial sweeteners and if I read on a label of a product that it contains such ingredients I would never buy it. I have been so undisciplined and eating all day long for the last few weeks now and could not figure out why. I am usually someone who can go the whole day without food if I am busy. Not lately. Will be so curious to see if the constant hunger feeling goes away again once the bottle is used up . Holly, thank you for sharing your food journey. It’s true that stevia (pronounced stee vee ah) is an issue not just in terms of metabolism and residuals as pertains but for many reasons. As experts in nutrition and regenerative medicine, we are mindful of multiple problems with stevia. Of note: it is not an artificial sugar or sweetener, it’s an alternative sweetener because it is plant based. The chemicals often used to produce it can be artificial. But there are people who grow and process it themselves. ANY FORM of stevia is problematic no matter how “natural”. The major issue is that it slows and inhibits signaling. This can be great for someone with epilepsy (*caveat below) or someone who’s pain signaling reduces but not good for memory and cognition. It also has an additional unwanted residual effect, it causes apoptosis, particularly to brain cells. In fact you can find at least one study (in mice) that compared aspartame, sucralose and stevia. It found that stevia had MORE apoptosis than the 2 artificial chemical sweeteners! It can also *cause seizures. It can also cause more frequent urination and the dumping of electrolytes because it’s a diuretic. It also lowers blood pressure (artificially). And the following can be the reason the symptoms you had (and the flies in the study): it lowers blood sugar. It’s in many supplements: electrolytes supps, energy drinks and powders, and many, many other supps. We have patients read labels and eliminate ALL products with stevia. Will check back to see if you figured out your sleep issue. Dr. Judy had a sleep expert on recently who talks in depth about a number of multifactorials. Might be worth your time to watch it. 👊

I want to share this with others because most people who I know do consume stevia. I am very glad I gave it up. It only takes such a small amount of it for me to have symptoms. i just woke up. pf.... a lot has been going on, i was very sick, i'll leave a message in pvt, lol.
anyway, yeah... when everyone started their crusade against sugar, i was like "well just have less" but no.... everyone jumps on the sweetener wagon (and i am not even talking about stevia which is natural, there are a lot of chemicals out there that taste sweet)
and like many chemicals, they bond to your red blood cells composition and trigger some neuronal impulses that create addiction.
when you make a pie at home, and it may seem to you like you are adding too much sugar, keep in mind that what ever you buy that is industrially made, has a lot more and it's probably corn syrup which puts stress on our liver(or a combination of sugar and corn syrup)
sugar and carbs in general are a welcoming stress reliever for one's liver this is why we need some carbs in our diet, but corn syrup does the opposite, because of the chemical composition of the stuff.
