The same thing happened to me. I was 75 miles from anywhere in Idaho when it broke. With a knife I shaped a plug for the broken disconnect and one for the hose. Got me home where I could get a new disconnect. Your video helped me get it fixed in about 15 minutes time. Thanks.
Just a guy,,,thanks for the time you spent, it helped me out big time right before a snow storm in CT. My connector broke coming home from getting some sand/salt, just made it home before overheating. Mine came off easy by hand, after rotating the disconnect tool while pushing it in from behind. The hard part for me was getting the new one snapped on, I had to use some dielectric grease on the new fitting, and finally heard 2 little clicks after pushing it on and wiggling it with a lot of force. Cant believe what some others were doing to get the old connector off...LOL
Thanks for your help Justa Guy! Had to replace my heater hose. wasn't sure how to disconnect the hose until I saw your video. I used the 3/4 quick connect tool. Thanks a lot bud!
I just had that fitting break on my way home today. I was thinking Heater Core replacement........ Your video just saved me a Lot of frustration, time and money!! Thank You Sir!!
Great video. Mine came off just like yours with the plastic tip still in hose. I changed one then -low&behold- the other started dripping immediately. None of the stores around me had even heard of the extraction tool. A mechanic friend suggested using a small saw blade but there wasn't any room to really get a cut going. So i used a saws-all( very carefully!)& made some cuts then levered it off with a screwdriver. Thanks!
Great video Justa Guy. I had the same exact issue (same side as well) and was getting scared about replacing the core. Then low and behold I came across your video. Truly appreciate it brother. Got it repaired in minimal time.
Thank you!!! This turned out to be such a simple and inexpensive repair thanks to watching your video. My local NAPA did not have the removal tool in stock, so I checked with Auto Zone and they had one! Although it looks different (cheaper looking), it worked just fine. That part # is 25052 - AC/Fuel Line Quick Disconnect Tool Set ($9.99). FYI: Use the black 3/4" tool. The actual repair took less than 10 minutes. I spent $52.93 total which included two gallons of anti-freeze. Thank you!!!!
THANK YOU! I just broke the exact same one. People were telling me that it couldn't be replaced. I knew it could. I could turn it but couldn't get it off. I did some googling and came across your video. THANKS AGAIN!
Thanks for the tips on this project. Couple things i learned while doing mine. I didn't need the puller tool that you got from autozone (my store didn't have it). I got the quick disconnect tool (similar to the one you got from Napa) from autozone. At autozone they call it a fuel and ac line disconnect tool set. Brand- OEMPN- 25052 I put it on, pushed quick connect toward the firewall, and pulled the "tool" toward me at the same time. Came off easy (by hand). **tip 2** buy 2 quick connect pieces. The second one broke on me while working on the first (old and brittle)
Thank you. I was about to load my truck up and take it to the shop when I ran across your video. 6 dollar part, coolant and 15 mins later I was back up and running. I used extra long needle nose pliers with the tips bent 90 degrees and it popped right off.
Thank you for you video. It Saved my ass today. I pulled it up while i was waiting on a friend to come safe me. I called NAPA and bought the parts and tool over the phone. My buddy stopped and picked them up on his way. 20 min later i was a back on the road.
Excellent, excellent video! I have to replace the heater hose which goes to a "Y" and connects to the antifreeze reservoir and a little stub hose that goes into the water pump. Well, all of this looked really simple until I looked up to where the hose goes into the heater core. I looked at that and said "Oh no! What the heck is that!" This is the second video I have viewed on the googled subject and I can tell that you have just saved me a whole lot of headache! Thank you for taking the time to help a brother out! I appreciate it!
Thank you! Having the SAME problem on a friends truck and was wondering the process. Looks easier than what I thought it would be and cheaper. Thanks for showing the tools with the part number, helps out a bunch from a fellow DIYer
Hey Justa Guy, I greatly appreciate this video. You gave your free time to help me and many others. I am getting educated on how to do this project on my pick'em up truck , after looking at location ( close to firewall, with limited space available ) I know this job would be a BEAR. I AM GRATEFUL TO YOU AND YOU TUBE . THANK YOU SO MUCH.
thank you, followed your advice to the T, other than my local auto zone not having the tool to loan me, the quick connect they sold me worked and the Napa part you suggested worked perfectly. thank you again.
🤣🤣 same symptoms, same scares to death feeling that you had and when I just checked my hoses it snapped off just like yours did 💀. Have to replace both of my hose quick connects! Thanks for the upload.
Thank you so much for sharing. This saved me a lot of time removing the hoses to replace the rotted connectors and do a heater core flush. To recap; here is what you need.. Napa p/n 77-4031 (the 3/4 inch disc is what you use), Dorman p/n 800-409, and Auto Zone p/n 27106. If you feel up to it, then install a Peak Radiator Flush and Fill Kit p/n PKF0AA on the hose per instructions. Perform your flush with water, then radiator flush liquid, and finally with compressed air.
thank you so much for the video - finding the pry bar was the most difficult part. its easier to cut the old quick disconnect off with a small hacksaw and avoid hitting the heater core nipple. might be better to directly connect the hose to the heater core nipple and avoid putting on another quick disconnect. thanks again this vid helped so much!
Thanks for saving my butt on replacing the heater core itself and taking out the dash. My hose broke today just like yours and Advance Auto did not know what it was and tried to sell me a heater core.
Thank you very much for posting with all the part numbers. Exactly my issue with my 2007 Cadillac Escalade EXT with the 6.2L. Picking up parts to repair.
Thank you for this video. My GMC gets me back and forth to work every day. those plastic posts just broke off, as I was changing my plug wires. It took me by surprise my jaw just dropped. I knew those quick connects had to come off, but did not know how. The other videos I saw scared me too. You saved me time and money thank you.
Thanks for the vid. My previous mechanic bent the intake and outlet. I quickly realized that these quick disconnects are crap. just put two clamps on each hose and connect the hose direct.
thanks man. helped me out. I would say that I put a lot of effort into pulling like you . then realized that once the white ring is jammed in, the thing pops right off
Hey buddy so you video was extremely helpful... One little addition we couldn't find the tool you have as its Sunday but we borrowed a slide hammer with the hook end attached we used those connection removal tools u suggested and with light taps to the slide we were able to replace both of those connections in 20 minutes. You video was perfect thank you very much. +Like to you
Thanks, Very helpful. I completed it in aprox 15 min, thanks to this video. I did put a little grease on the inside of the new fittings, which made putting them on a snap! I did not use the tool, just the bar tool, just pulled them off with needle nose pliers.
Wow, what a great video, also thank you for labeling the part numbers and where you bought them. This is definitely going to save me some time.! I am working on a 2002 Chevrolet Tahoe
Thanks a lot brother it happened to me to, it scared the hell out of me I thought it was the heater core that went bad on me and immediately thought it'd be a nightmare replacing that thing going to autozone and Napa tomorrow.
Looks like I know what i'm getting myself into tomorrow. I have my heater core lines coming off water pump looped because I couldn't figure this out. Hopefully I can fix it and have heat in my truck again. My connector broke when I was working under the hood with engine running. One burnt hand resulted. Thanks for the video.
Thanks for showing all the tools/process needed. Worked like a charm! Like others have said: "no silly cutting or burning like a lot of others recommend". You did it the correct way and that is my way too. If anything, I did not have that metal bar tool #27106 and would of probably helped but got her done anyway. Cheers!
Thank you bro your video was the most helpful one. I just had the same problem i thought i had to replace the hose but when i took it off the whole thing came off too. So thank you for your help.
Drove from Prescott Az to Caborca Mexico and luckly as soon as I arrived to my destination 7 hours later this happened but what a faithful truck did'nt give up on on the no service roads till it got to it's destination.
great video! used that same part number for the quick connect and autozone had one! they didn't have that long tool. I have a 2007 duramax and I don't think that tool would have fit in there to use it anyway. thanks for the info!! a little bit of a pain but persistence pays off.
Michelle, I put the connector on the core, put the clamp on the hose, put the hose on the connector and tightened the clamp. It should be easy. Good luck
thanks for the vid i broke my disconnect so with this vid i was able to get all the parts i need, i just cant find the metal tool and amazon is out, we have 1 part store the others are 35 miles out may need to clamp my hose to get me down there
Thank you very much for showing me how to CRUSH that piece that was stuck inside. I had spent all afternoon replacing a manifold converter on a Chevy Colorado. They don't have a lot of room to work in and everything was just about buttoned up. All of a sudden I'm getting an antifreeze bath. On The Colorado the tubing makes a 90 degree turn just 2 inches from the firewall and goes right towards the block. The tubing allows clearance around the exhaust manifold. Anyways You would think the engineers would have left an inch and a half of pipe from the heater core out through the firewall instead of making these dumb ass disconnects. I don't know what engineer got paid to design this. It's crap. Thanks for the CRUSH tip buddy.
What a cool sounding down to earth guy. Thanks for the helpful iPhone... ...i have a 2007 avalanche with 175000 miles so I think this is a reasonable fix... thanks
Mine just broke today 2/25/20. I had no idea it was a shitty plastic adapter back there but I am glad to find I don't have to replace my heater core. Thanks a bunch. I'm going to buy one for each side. How far away is the other from breaking with 240,000 miles? Not far enough to not replace both for this old man. Thanks again.
If you had that much trouble you did some thing wrong. That removal tool bar is just to put positive pressure against the quick disconnect removal tool ( white plastic part). That leaves your other hand free to gently twist and pull the hose off of the heater core. Heater cores are made if thin aluminum, yanking on the hoses will stress the core and most likely cause a leak, or break off the aluminum tube that connects to the core.
On my 2500HD I have no room to get my quick disconnect pliers back there. I made the tool with scissors and a laundry soap jug. Took 3 minutes all together.
I replaced the quick disconnects in my 2004 chevy tahoe about a year ago with the auto zone part. The original factory part lasted 14 years and the auto zone part broke after 1 year. Midnight tow and garage service about $500 to fix properly. Sure wish I'd spent the extra $25 while going through the hassle of replacing the first time.
I've read comments elsewhere of others reporting that same thing, the cheap ones breaking within just a few years. I'll invest in the real deal instead if taking chances with a questionable replacement part.
BIG THANKS!!!!! Trying to get mine off and still yanking. I got a 2007 Chevy Avalanche and I'm replacing the left quick disconnect. I got the tool and the quick disconnect release tool but still have trouble getting it off? Any more tips?
Quick update...if using the pry tool once you get the disconnect release on and once you pull to release clip you need fit the pry bar between the white release tool and the old quick disonnect and then pull that off. Otherwise you'll be pulling against the heater hose pipe neck. This is the case when working on the Avalanche because the hoses are way under the hood and hard to get a set of pliers in to just pull the old disconnect off.
Didn't want to pay the crooks for a release tool that most sell for over $12 and probably cost 50 cents to produce. Decided to make one myself and then found it on the Walmart site for $2.23 with in store pick-up. Thanks Walmart for not screwing people.
Did this take care of the problem of the water in the floorboard? I've got the same problem and want to rule everything else out before I attempt to replace the heater core.
Justa Guy I figured my problem out. I just got the truck and the previous owner had run the satellite radio antenna between the door insulation and body and the insulation was pulled down allowing water in. Thanks for the reply though!
Hey i'm having problems installing the news connector but its not staying on. I got a new connector holes. From a Chevy dealer but its not staying on and not locking, Need help asap.
if you having a hard time getting the new one on and click. I spit in the new 1 and then it slid right on and click done. ez with this video great work justa guy
Kayak survivor, you just push the connector onto the heater coil. Not hard to do. Get it wet first, push it till you here it click and then clamp the hose back on. Good luck, message me again if your having a problem

great video! used that same part number for the quick connect and autozone had one! they didn't have that long tool. I have a 2007 duramax and I don't think that tool would have fit in there to use it anyway. thanks for the info!! a little bit of a pain but persistence pays off.
hey man thanks for the video! you saved my life on a cold winter night!
Used you video to change quick connect in my 2001 Chev PU. Worked well! Thanks.
Michelle, I put the connector on the core, put the clamp on the hose, put the hose on the connector and tightened the clamp. It should be easy. Good luck
Thank you for showing the correct way to make this repair.
God Bless you sir for taking the time to explain this very helpful!
You saved my cold butt and made my day! Thanks Mr. Guy.

Super helpful. Had to flush heater core it was clogged and had no heat
Thanks...you saved me 200 bucks!
What a cool sounding down to earth guy. Thanks for the helpful iPhone... ...i have a 2007 avalanche with 175000 miles so I think this is a reasonable fix... thanks
Is it same method with the second hose? Cause i have a leak problem with the second on my silverado thta dosent have a clamp thingy
Just had to do this today great video thanks
Mine just broke today 2/25/20. I had no idea it was a shitty plastic adapter back there but I am glad to find I don't have to replace my heater core. Thanks a bunch. this video sure was helpful thought I was going to have to replace the heater core and that looked like a nightmare
Thank you. This solved the exact same problem I had.
I replaced the quick disconnects in my 2004 chevy tahoe about a year ago with the auto zone part. The original factory part lasted 14 years and the auto zone part broke after 1 year. Does all 2001 ford f150 have the quick disconnect. mine is leaking and don't know if it does
best advise thus far. thank you!
How exactly did you get the new connector on!?? I've been trying, it says push until you hear a click but mine won't click on.. please help!!
Where do the hoses run to?
Same thing on my 04 GMC Yukon Denali
Good info Cheif thanks for the upload
Good job. Exactly what I needed.
Thank for this video... It helped me out so much
BIG THANKS!!!!!
What's the name of that black part you bought for $6?
Do you have to flush your cooling system before you change the connector?
Great video! Thanks for your help!
Thanks a lot this video helped out now I know what I'm doing tomorrow to
Some have said you can use an adjustable wrench to put pressure on the disconnect ring and the black hose connector will Pop off
Big help, thank you sir. Headed outside to get started.
Thanks for posting this, I too, was cringing at what the others were doing.
Did this take care of the problem of the water in the floorboard? I've got the same problem and want to rule everything else out before I attempt to replace the heater core.
yes man.. No more water in the floorboard.
From a Chevy dealer but its not staying on and not locking, Need help asap.
do u need that same tool to put the hose back on ?thanks for sharing
AmazonShroom . no, just get the new one wet and push it on. you will here a click and then you cant pull it back off.
Justa Guy thanks for sharing bud
if you having a hard time getting the new one on and click. I spit in the new 1 and then it slid right on and click done. ez with this video great work justa guy
Thanks for the help. I have the same issue. I think I will replace both though. Any reason you did not replace both ?
Jared Price the return line never leaked. still hasn't. now that you asked and I replied,,, it will probably break tomorrow.
Hahahah yep that’s how that works for sure. Thanks for the video it will save a lot of hassle on my end
Thanks for the info. Very helpful. Even was the same year and same hose. lol
Kayak survivor, you just push the connector onto the heater coil. Not hard to do. Get it wet first, push it till you here it click and then clamp the hose back on. Good luck, message me again if your having a problem
Yup, this video definitely helped a lot, made my worries go way down hahahaha thanks
