You heard some of their more straight-forward stuff, but Band-Maid always had more progressive songs from Screaming to Puzzle to Blooming. You're still playing catch-up. And if Babymetal and Band-Maid are the only two Japanese acts you've checked out so far, you're in for a world of wow. There's a slew of Japanese all-women hard rock/metal bands that are killing it, from Lovebites, Aldious and Nemophila to Hanabie, Trident and Gacharic Spin. No, Babymetal and Band-Maid aren't competing. They're the tops of their respective - and very different - worlds, and both have plenty of mutual fans. Anyway, to answer your question, yes Band-Maid is progressing nicely. They were great and now they're even greater.

While I'm not one of BAND-MAID's hyperbolic fans (the "omg they're the best ever!" type), saying they're coming after Babymetal fans or whatever simply doesn't apply. Miku has said that while they respect Babymetal, they don't see them as competition because they're doing two different things. She's right, too, as an objective look at both groups shows that the only things they really have in common are that they're comprised of Japanese women and typically play harder music. Superficially Band-Maid and Baby Metal may seem to be similar in some respects (young Asian women involved in popular bands), however there are major differences in the two bands. For example, the two singers/dancers of Baby Metal are backed by the extremely talented Kami Band and perform carefully choregraphed shows. Band-Maid writes their own songs and play their own instruments in a more typical rock style performance. Both bands are terrific, and they certainly share overlapping fan bases who love both equally. On the other hand, each of the two bands have their own large loyal following and neither group needs to compete against each other because of the significant differences between the music of the two. One can enjoy one or the other or both.
Band-maid are a rock band who incorporate MANY other styles in many varied songs- and sound NOTHING like babymetal. Just because they are from Japan doesn't mean they are alike. And BAND-MAID blow the shit outa babymetal- even if you like babymetal songs the simple fact is they are a studio manufactured group who do NOT play their own instruments- they just sing. How many and how much, I don't know myself, but still. I was just expressing that we don't need to compare bands like that and saying that one blows the other out of the water is kind of a negative sentiment. As in, if either band read it, for example, I don't think either one would feel good about that. Not that it will happen, but you get what I mean. By positioning themselves as hard rock, it gives them lots of flexibility. They can take it up into a slightly metal sound or bring it back for a nice ballad. It also helps give their shows a nice high energy.
They are better in every way. More talented than Baby Metal could dream of being. Baby Metal is an idol band. Band-Maid is 5 supremely talented musicians.
Their latest album turned up the intensity and speed a couple of notches, and the technicality is off the charts on that album. Very progressive and experimental, and it also has their fastest song in their discography, Black Hole (220 bpm). This song was a commissioned song for the anime Platinum End, so the sound is a much more standard fare in comparison. The orchestra intro was a requirement from the anime makers. The Band-Maid composer, Kanami, had to do a lot of research to get it right, since it was her first time arranging an orchestra. You should check out the B-sides from the Sense single, Corallium and Hibana. Hibana is a very cool riff based and melodic song. Corallium is one hell of a hectic song. All over the place, technical as hell and is one of my all time favorite Band-Maid songs. There are some fans who are not liking the progressive and intense direction Band-Maid has taken in their latest album + Sense single, but I absolutely love it.
BABYMETAL and BAND-MAID are both all female Japanese bands, but they are as different as apples and oranges. I'm a metalhead girl, but I can clearly say that BABYMETAL is not my cup of tea and I absolutely love BAND-MAID xD
BabyMetal isn't an all female band. It's an all female vocalist band and the production takes care of composing songs. The instrument players are all men.
Baby Metal isn’t female 100%. The musicians that actually play instruments , are every single one of them professional male session musicians that step on that stage with their masks or painted faces.The only thing that are girls are the three up front that dance 💃 and usually only one of them does all the singing. I wouldnt call this part of their progressions since this is a 1 off made as an opener for an anime Platinum End. Which means it needs to sound a certain way. Doesnt mean the fans dont love it though. Band Maid can do no wrong

Just to help out with your research this song is made and was asked by the people who make the Platinum End anime. Also for more research , this is the second anime that asks this group for their chops to bring the music to their anime , the first one was the song Different for the anime Log Horizon . That’s the progress this band has been doing. Baby Metal and Band Maid not to much in common . These ladies here play virtiuosly their instruments and write their own material and play more than one instrument each one their members. Babymetal announced they were going to "disappear" for an unspecified length of time back on Oct 10th, which means they're on hiatus. I wouldn't be surprised if they did a permanent vanishing act à la Yui Mizuno. The differences between the two bands are so evident that your off-the-cuff remarks about Band-Maid trying to acquire some of Babymetal's fan base by playing fast, heavy music are laughable. BABYMETAL : an 11 years old "pre-made IDOL BAND with crazy good good METAL BAND behind" (I don't say it's bad, just a fact) with only three album and the last one was "good but ..." and have an obvious goal of milk-out the cowstumers with a lot of best-of, anniversary album, all at some crazy price, and no real new stuff since more than 2 years now. BAND-MAID : an 8 years old "real-made ROCK/HARD-ROCK BAND" of five very talented and prolific "real" musician who write and play there own music since few years now and become better and better with time, always fresh, and unexpected, but familiar at the same time, with 4 mini-albums 4 albums and 8 singles where "B-Sides" are at least as good than the "single song". They are nothing alike except the kawaii outfit, and they are not comparable and don"t play on the same yard. And if you really want to take this road, don't take me wrong, I like BABYMETAL very much, but except the chance to have pretty fast a very good worldwide exposition, they are very far to be close to what BAND-MAID done and do. You do realize babymetal is choreographed dancing teen idols once you take out all the dudes in the background (which is an actual band the Kami Band). Babymetal is not a band. BAND-MAID is an actual band which not only performed, but write their own music. If you are comparing bands then babymetal should be nowhere near the conversation.
First off - These are not "GIRLS" these are highly talented and very professional musicians! Second - I'm not sure how much you know about their music? How many songs have you actually listened to from them? It sounds like you "might" have heard of 5 or 6? Currently them have over 100+ songs. TNT has reacted to at least a dozen older Band Maid songs and not much recently that I have seen, he has not listened to anything that I have seen off of the incredible latest album. He admits that it has "been a minute" since he has reacted to them. They have a huge catalog that he has not seen so his baby metal comment was really ignorant.

If you expose yourself to many other styles of their music and listen to the details they put into with open mind, you may appreciate the bit of 'off' or 'unnecessary' thing they add as also the essential part of their sound that many fans are gravitated to. I've been a fan of Hard-Rock and Metal for 45 years and I don't like everything in Metal. I listen, but not much, but I don't allow myself to criticize those bands in the sub-genre of Metal that I don't like as much, because I can't do what they do. I'm a fan of BAND-MAID, BABYMETAL and NEMOPHILA, I don't need to choose, for me, the 3 are great and if they come back to France I'll try to go there. Really no comparison with Babymetal….on the rock and metal spectrum but not even close. There are a fair number of songs of this tempo and are as hard-hitting. Try Rinne, more recently…Different, Black Hole, Giovanni, No God….

They are better in every way. More talented than Baby Metal could dream of being. Baby Metal is an idol band. Band-Maid is 5 supremely talented musicians.
Their latest album turned up the intensity and speed a couple of notches, and the technicality is off the charts on that album. Very progressive and experimental, and it also has their fastest song in their discography, Black Hole (220 bpm). This song was a commissioned song for the anime Platinum End, so the sound is a much more standard fare in comparison. The orchestra intro was a requirement from the anime makers. The Band-Maid composer, Kanami, had to do a lot of research to get it right, since it was her first time arranging an orchestra. You should check out the B-sides from the Sense single, Corallium and Hibana. Hibana is a very cool riff based and melodic song. Corallium is one hell of a hectic song. All over the place, technical as hell and is one of my all time favorite Band-Maid songs.
There are some fans who are not liking the progressive and intense direction Band-Maid has taken in their latest album + Sense single, but I absolutely love it.
BABYMETAL and BAND-MAID are both all female Japanese bands, but they are as different as apples and oranges. I'm a metalhead girl, but I can clearly say that BABYMETAL is not my cup of tea and I absolutely love BAND-MAID xD
BabyMetal isn't an all female band. It's an all female vocalist band and the production takes care of composing songs. The instrument players are all men.
Baby Metal isn’t female 100%. The musicians that actually play instruments , are every single one of them professional male session musicians that step on that stage with their masks or painted faces.The only thing that are girls are the three up front that dance 💃 and usually only one of them does all the singing. I wouldnt call this part of their progressions since this is a 1 off made as an opener for an anime Platinum End. Which means it needs to sound a certain way. Doesnt mean the fans dont love it though. Band Maid can do no wrong

Just to help out with your research this song is made and was asked by the people who make the Platinum End anime. Also for more research , this is the second anime that asks this group for their chops to bring the music to their anime , the first one was the song Different for the anime Log Horizon . That’s the progress this band has been doing. Baby Metal and Band Maid not to much in common . These ladies here play virtiuosly their instruments and write their own material and play more than one instrument each one their members. Babymetal announced they were going to "disappear" for an unspecified length of time back on Oct 10th, which means they're on hiatus. I wouldn't be surprised if they did a permanent vanishing act à la Yui Mizuno.
The differences between the two bands are so evident that your off-the-cuff remarks about Band-Maid trying to acquire some of Babymetal's fan base by playing fast, heavy music are laughable. It sounds like you are trying to compartmentalize the two bands as some kind of generic "Asian rock".

BABYMETAL : an 11 years old "pre-made IDOL BAND with crazy good good METAL BAND behind" (I don't say it's bad, just a fact) with only three album and the last one was "good but ..." and have an obvious goal of milk-out the cowstumers with a lot of best-of, anniversary album, all at some crazy price, and no real new stuff since more than 2 years now.
BAND-MAID : an 8 years old "real-made ROCK/HARD-ROCK BAND" of five very talented and prolific "real" musician who write and play there own music since few years now and become better and better with time, always fresh, and unexpected, but familiar at the same time, with 4 mini-albums 4 albums and 8 singles where "B-Sides" are at least as good than the "single song".
They are nothing alike except the kawaii outfit, and they are not comparable and don"t play on the same yard. And if you really want to take this road, don't take me wrong, I like BABYMETAL very much, but except the chance to have pretty fast a very good worldwide exposition, they are very far to be close to what BAND-MAID done and do.
If you want to try new Metal things of the Japan scene, try NEMOPHILA (DISSENSSION, REVIVE or RAITEI for starting)

They're *already* playing prog-metal: as Gentle Giant spent most of their career demonstrating you don't have to produce 23 minute suites to be progressive!
You do realize babymetal is choreographed dancing teen idols once you take out all the dudes in the background (which is an actual band the Kami Band). Babymetal is not a band. BAND-MAID is an actual band which not only performed, but write their own music. If you are comparing bands then babymetal should be nowhere near the conversation.
First off - These are not "GIRLS" these are highly talented and very professional musicians! Second - I'm not sure how much you know about their music? How many songs have you actually listened to from them? It sounds like you "might" have heard of 5 or 6? Currently them have over 100+ songs. Third - your opinion that this band is trying to sound more like Baby-Metal is totally wrong. Both bands are awesome BUT they are completely different styles of music. That both bands share a certain percentage of their fans is not a bad thing! Personally I was a Baby-Metal fan in the early years of their start. However, I found Band-Maid music was more to my taste and their constant drive to outdo their own previous works amazed me. Sure I still enjoy an occasional Baby-Metal song from time to time but Band-Maid music is now a constant in my life! Why? Because Band-Maid has one thing in its goal....continual perfection of their art!

TNT has reacted to at least a dozen older Band Maid songs and not much recently that I have seen, he has not listened to anything that I have seen off of the incredible latest album. He admits that it has "been a minute" since he has reacted to them. They have a huge catalog that he has not seen so his baby metal comment was really ignorant.

Baby metal is 3 cute pop singers and an all male metal backing band and a number of line up changes. Band Maid is 5 serious musicians writing, arranging and playing their own stuff, no lineup changes in the bands history. There is no comparison.

They do many different vibes... a speed beat song "Warning", a definite groove rock sound, "Manners" or super technical song like "Blooming".
Nah... it's just Band-maid doing Band-maid things. They are musically everywhere and will occasionaly tap into something that will remind us about something else.
If you expose yourself to many other styles of their music and listen to the details they put into with open mind, you may appreciate the bit of 'off' or 'unnecessary' thing they add as also the essential part of their sound that many fans are gravitated to.

You can't compare Band Maid and Baby Metal so please STOP. . Band Maid play their own instruments and write their own music. They don't do silly dances. They are musicians. Baby Metal are singing dancers with a great male back up band. YOU obviously have NOT heard enough of Band Maid to make silly comments like they don't usually go this hard or progressive. They are not "progressing nicely", they are cream of the crop and they just keep outdoing themselves.

Really no comparison with Babymetal….on the rock and metal spectrum but not even close. There are a fair number of songs of this tempo and are as hard-hitting. Try Rinne, more recently…Different, Black Hole, Giovanni, No God….
