I have loved Behemoth for a long time. Their music has always been amazing but what won me over is how cool they are. I had the chance to meet Nergal and Orion a long ass time ago at The White Rabbit in San Antonio and they were just the greatest guys. That has endeared me to Behemoth for more than a decade
To me, "Ov Fire And Void" is the quintessential Behemoth song, much more having a black metal vibe than the rest. I agree that alot of Behemoth songs sound more death metal than black metal.
"I've killed thy god my will is done" I've seen them live and holy shit it was amazing!! Their stage presence was intense, costumes and everything. The mosh was insane, I was sent flying many times. They aren't really black metal, its more blackened death metal. One of the few truly satanic bands, its not just for show. They catch a lot of shit because Poland is highly christian.
I saw them live with my Polish mum in her 60's (who doesn't listen to metal at all) because she wanted to support a Polish band. The only thing Polaks are more loyal to than God is other Polish things.
@@musicointempero2256 soo cool...I actually was introduced to their music at 14yo by my mum's bestie and colleague who is Polish...my Albanian and catholic mum though didn't appreciate, she literally started to pray in a high voice with the rosary in her hands when I tried to make her listen to them
Interesting side note, this is part of the XXX Years of Blasphemy live stream. There were 3 different locations they streams at, all with Christian significance. If I'm not mistaken about this video, this was filmed on the same path Jesus supposedly walked, on his way to meet his end on the cross.
Behemoth is more like death metal with black influences. Their earlier stuff are a better indication of that. It is refreshing to hear someone saying that not only are they listening to a genre music, but also wanting to understand the progression of the genre and going back into its early stages. Listen to Greek black metal bands if you get a chance. You will find a completely different take on black metal.
Randomly found your channel, love it! and and perfect timing because I’ll be seeing arch enemy with behemoth in a few days! have you had a chance to check out any other songs? Ov fire and the void and At The Left Hand Ov God (live) are nice 👍
Dude, nice to see you checking out Behemoth. I would suggest O Father O Satan O Sun, kinda reaction classic and I suppose more accessible, also I do personally enjoy the riff during the spoken word part :) Otherwise I suggest the band Enslaved, more chilled out guys hehe with a sprinkle of progressive metal here and there.
Behemoth is like if a Black Metal band decided to be a comic book. Review early Vader, the band that this band has always wanted to be. Behemoth is Vader-worship with BM affectations.
Hello I’m from Poland so I have 2 sugesttions for U First is Vader -i am who feasts upon your soul Vader is a Polish death metal band from Olsztyn. Formed in 1983, the group was founded by then-bassist Piotr "Peter" Wiwczarek and guitarist Zbigniew "Vika" Wróblewski. Vader went through several lineup changes over the years, with Wiwczarek as the only constant member. Since 2011, the band has comprised Wiwczarek on guitars and vocals, guitarist Marek "Spider" Pająk, bassist Tomasz "Hal" Halicki, and British drummer James Stewart. Starting as a heavy metal group, Vader eventually went to thrash, speed, and then in the late 1980s became a death metal band. It would not be until nine years after forming that they managed to release their debut album The Ultimate Incantation (1992); Vader has released eleven more studio albums since then. The band's name was inspired by Darth Vader from the Star Wars film series. Lyrical themes include stories by H. P. Lovecraft, World War II, and horror. According to Billboard magazine, by 2002 Vader sold approximately 500,000 releases around the world. Second is Acid Drinkers - blues beat down Acid Drinkers are a Polish thrash metal band formed in September 1986 in Poznań. Acid Drinkers were formed on 21 September 1986 consisting of Tomasz "Titus" Pukacki (vocals, bass) and Robert "Litza" Friedrich (guitar, vocals). The band's style is thrash metal, with influences of heavy metal and hardcore punk. Acid Drinkers are rated as one of the most important bands in the Polish thrash and heavy metal world. All the best !!! Listen and Enjoy 🤘🏼
Chirstians to the lions here does not have too much atmosphere because Behemoth switched from our traditional BM into death metal and then again into BM... If You want something more melodic and with atmosphere then You need to try early albums. Try this song - completely different vibes: ua-cam.com/video/6XSm5vKeDWo/v-deo.html
Just stumbled across your channel. Tried searching if you reviewed any other of Behemoths tracks, but it seems you didn't as far as I can tell (maybe I didn't look close enough). I do think you should look into them a little more though, they are quite diverse really. You might actually prefer their somewhat newer stuff. This specific song is actually older, from the beginning of what you would call their mid-period, and is more of mosh-pit song really. Songs that would suit way better as an introduction to the band for newcomers are songs like * Bartzabel (which you mentioned. It is definitely more atmospheric) * Ov Fire and the Void * O Father O Satan O Sun * Messe Noire * Conquer All * Once Upon a Pale Horse * Lucifer * Blow Your Trumpets Gabriel * The Deathless Sun * Daimonos They might just be more to your tastes.
This band is from Poland and in Poland the Catholic church is engrained into the society. For example there are LGBT-free zones (where you cannot openly show that you have a different sexual preference) and very strict abortion laws, making the country go backwards decades basically. Behemoth is essentially the front runner of anti-Christian sentiments in Poland. What I like about the subgenre of Polish Black Metal (which tends to have Death Metal influences) is that it sounds more angry/aggressive than others.
I would consider behemoth both black and death metal they started more black and then added more death metal elements later extreme metal is probably the best description for them
Careful with this band… been a metal head my entire life , 30+ years but never could find myself listening to “black metal” but this band will spawn the darkness that lies in you… you’ll keep coming back for more and digging deeper into the seed.. be vigilant my friend
Oh definitely. I wound up having nightmares after my first time seeing them. I like their music a lot great as artists buuuuuut there's that which you mentioned. Especially if you've never heard the names of some of the figures portrayed. It gets rather scary at times.
I know im late to the party, but Behemoth NOW is black/death metal. If you go way back, they are more black metal. Zos Kia Kultus is great, and Left Hand of God. Such an amazing song. But theyre not traditional black metal

You did end up being kinda right tho, so much of this kind of writing can be found from era-specific releases. listen to myrkskog from around those times (hatemachine perhaps?) and this sort of riffage is abundant right off the bat.
This was actually a live version that they played on a live stream. The song itself is like 20 years old.
Behemoth are a perfect mixture of black metal and death metal but they do have more atmospheric songs in their back catalog.

The Intro is actually another song from the Apostasy record called Rome 64 AD!
no,Rome 64 is different
Thanks for the correction. I saw Behemoth live and they played Rome AD before Christians to the lions so I presumed this must be the same!
Morbid Angel already had the song "The Lion's Den" about the same subject.
Anytime where you see face paint like that its black metal well its call corpse paint

You should do some songs of Dimmu Borgir!
The insight and the catharsis for sure!
