Excellant. Ustad Zakir Hossain whenever plays Tabla either with vocal Or sitar or sarod etc it is excellant.

Was going through the comments & it's sad to see that some people feel that Zakirbhai dominated Nishatji. I totally disagree with this opinion. Both of them are capable to dominate each other. They bear in mind that it's not a contest. I feel both of them compliment and give each other the apportunity to show their skills. It is because of this approach that not only the overall audiance but budding sitarist & tabla players enjoy the performance.

Why just the "Tak" ?? ...every kinar stroke is clean and crisp like it hits deep in your ear drum. And that too at a high speed "laya", and devilish poor quality sound recording. God only knows how he did that ... but I can tell you that unless you are exceptionally "God gifted" in some ways, you cant bring in that level of perfection, simply by doing "rewaz"

If only the sitar could have been a little clearer. It seems to drown its own clarity in a lot of other sounds of its own making. Or perhaps it was the sound recordist's fault, who did not do his job properly for Nishat Khan. Zakir's Tabla was superb as usual. Both are masters, but the output depends so much on the quality of sound recording.
@Subodas that said, his taan speed is several times a bit-off the tabla theka speed.

@rpb1231 the audience in kolkata is pound for pound the most knowledgeble conneoiseur audience. this practice of clapping in the middle of a concert on relas has started newly. calcuttans dont yet do that.

Please people look at NIshat Khan's face and tell me he doesn't make an error at least twice. The first time he makes an error is on the 4th and 5th beat of tintaal around the 14 second mark in which his taan ends abrubtly and then he scowls at Zakirji. The second time he plays the taan to fast to fit with the theka of tintaal around 36 seconds, aka "rushing" Then he stops for a bit longer and says something to Zakirji. Only two people seem to notice this.

I din't understand why people did not applause to zakir bhai at 4:02 !!.. such a poor response from people that too of Kolkata, which is known as mecca of tabla!!.. well, sincerely great work by both ustads!!
It's good that they didn't it would reflect very poorly on the audience. Kolkata audience knows a thing or two about tabla, therefore, knows when to give "daad".
You are right...Perhaps it was too cerebral an sophisticated for them. This is cerebral tabla playing, as, Pandit Sankha Chatterjee would aptly say..."Forget common audience, even educated tabla players don't find it easy to comprehend the complex calculations that Ustad-ji seems to play very naturally...His tihais, or, a kayda ending in a sum is never straightforward. Definitely at some point while playing, he would break the laya, play outside the beat and then postfix the composition with an inconceivably difficult 2 whole 2/3 beat peace ending in the sum....not easy for anyone to follow"

dude, no doubt that he is ,as you call him genius. However, we are talking about simple arithmetic here. NO calculus,no differential equation or anything like that. IF you can't count then that is sad , but for the rest of counting is not that complicated as you might think! I must remind you that we are all humans and mistake can happen.
zakirbhai is amazing as always ... but for him, the ragas are bastardized by the other one! horrible abuse of both yaman and nand
