I remember his father saying it's an honor to be invited to play at a Hindu Temple. Ustad Imrat Khan is a human among humans. He loved listening to me do my Buddhist "Gongyo". He respected everyone regardless of religion or background. A curious mind, I remember him asking a physicist in Boston all kinds of questions with the interest of a child. A wonderful man, Ustad Imrat Khan.
Indeed ! I took part in a workshop with him around 1980. An occasion I have never forgotten. He remains my absolute favourite sitar/ surbaha master.Great to see his sons carrying on the tradition.
Boy we must be getting old, I saw Ustad Nishat Khan along with Zakir Hussain at the Savai Gandharva festival (I think 1983). I think he was either 19 or 20 years old but what he presented was unforgetful. We were talking about it for days even though it was Ustad Ali Akbar Khan that followed him.
It's wonderful. This instrument is on its path to extinct. Hope such legendary players spread the awareness to the next gen and inspire them to take on these arts.
This is masterly performance of Imdad khan Gharana Yaman, further enhanced by equally magnificent Tabla accompaniment by Ustad Zakir Hussain Khan. This is followed by superb performance of Raag Nand. Ustad Zakir Hussain Khan has excelled throughout during both presentations. Just as part 1 begins, Please listen carefully to the Jhala in Raag Yaman as final part of jor. What high speed and clarity of strokes!
Elaboration and purity with delicacy is the beauty of Nishat sb. I remember a performance by him at Indore where he played Darbari for 90 mins, He is great
Both maestros, both muslims and both in India - why on earth does the pakistani and Saudi consortium want to destroy this uniqueness of India which transcends all religion and cultures?Who cares about their religion when they can touch the hearts and minds like this?
Yaman is actually a distrotion of the word Yamuna and is a variation of Yamuna Kalyani, akin to YAMAN KALYAN in the Hindustaani discipline. The Alaap should have also been posted; would have been no doubt a treat . this is a later part of the performance as we can see. An artists also likes to display his "technical proficiency" on his instrument. Nishat is no doubt the most competent musician handling the sitar amongst ALL his cousins in his clan. His fantastic introspective alaaps and jods seem to have been forgotten by the listeners
Splendis truly splendid! But what I am worried is this!!! What If the master Nishat loose's his precious fingers somewhere in this magical instrument> Concerned....
Nishat ji gets a pleasure seeing his own hand movement otherwise the audio of the performance is far from being something meaningful. Only showmanship is what brings clap from the North Indian audiences.

Nishat Khan is the best and Zakir Jee, there are no words to describe him.
Both maestros, both muslims and both in India - why on earth does the pakistani and Saudi consortium want to destroy this uniqueness of India which transcends all religion and cultures?Who cares about their religion when they can touch the hearts and minds like this?
Excellent
Nishat ji's response to Zakir ji's introduction is fabulous

But what I am worried is this!!!
What If the master Nishat loose's his precious fingers somewhere in this magical instrument>
Concerned....
Subhanallah!
wah wah
🙏🏽🙏🏽
Much as i like nishat khan as a sitarist, i found the sound system awful and the sitar off-key in the first part of the clip.
Nishat ji gets a pleasure seeing his own hand movement otherwise the audio of the performance is far from being something meaningful. Only showmanship is what brings clap from the North Indian audiences.
Raag Yaman🤔? Nishat looks very much like Billy Crystal 😆
It's Yanan Kalyan. :)
Kya kayna
" You can get the memory of Ustad Vilayt Khan in it,........"
In all the flashy sitar and tabla playing, rag Yaman is missing. Ustad Nishat Khansaheb is capable of far better performance.
ummm yaMan kalyan lol.
Zakir, you crazy mofo.
