I did not expect Cry of Fear to hit so close to home for me. Like most of the things he says in the bad/sad endings are almost verbatim to what I write in my journal about myself, which isn't concerning at all /s. I have been going through a lot recently with school, medical issues, and mental health. I have multiple invisible disabilities. One of them is mild scoliosis along with early stage arthritis in my back (it's two, technically, but I put them together because they’re similar). I am glad that it isn't severe, but these issues don’t get better with time, and there isn't much I can do to prevent it from getting worse and it's scary to think how it'll effect me in the future. It is lonely dealing with these issues, despite people wanting to help, the only help you want is for it to stop, which isn't really feasible. Hearing the Simon say "no one wants a cripple," getting mad at his doctor for treatments not working (even though it's not their fault, it's no ones), and coming home from the doctor feeling worse about yourself are sentiments that I have faced many times within the past 4 years. The corpse tied to a chair is a portrayal of Simon's self image and what he hates about himself, he feels like a man who is supposed to be dead, but has defied all odds and survived, but it costed him his mobility. Now, he feels like a joke, which is why I think it is kinda ridiculous looking. This game is more than being obsessed with pain, I think that this game is about being consumed by pain and having nowhere to go. Simon feels like his entire life has been taken away, he wants to get out of this pain, he even states it himself, "A roller coaster with no end and I wanted out so bad." That's why he takes morphine, a pain reliever. He is trying to escape, but he can't. I think this game is about coming to terms with a disability. It is accepting reality, accepting hard truths. Understanding that life will not treat you good, but you can keep going. Maybe I am insane, but this game is almost hopeful (to me at least), with the good ending. It is not perfect, Simon isn't perfect. But he's alive, and he wants to be happy. I don't know if this was the creators point of the game, but I think that this is an interpretation worth considering, or not...... yes, I am crying btw

The enemies in the maze in Cry of Fear aren't sexual at all IMO, they're called Hangmen and they resemble a corpse in a bodybag hanging upside down. The twitching thing at the bottom is a misshapen head.

I love cry of fear, I remember the first time I played it a loonnng fucking time ago and took days to finish because of how horrifying it was. It makes me happy to see cry of fear getting some attention, but of course theres a bad side of it, the romanticization of the suffering portrayed in the game, and nobody taking it as seriously. Of course the types of people in the new community would say “you just hate new fans.” Hate is a strong word, but I always prefer that people would take the lesson of games seriously, after all the game had brought me comfort through my years of suffering, it was a sort of outlet for me, and to see people make it romantic or ‘silly’ is outrageous. Thank you for covering Cry of Fear and Afraid of Monsters, and showing people its more than just a game.
I think it's just a generational thing, memes are big as ever and so many serious topics are now taken lightly due to desensitization. I think with age media's emotional impact lessens. But with stories like these that talk about complex problems that many people go through should be taken seriously. I'm glad I could talk about something so important to you without tarnishing the art.

Simons reaction to the first creature is actually the most real reaction i have ever seen to a first time survival protag getting their first kill. he actually tries to call the police
That’s what I’m saying in so many horror games there’s either no signal or they don’t call at all. At least Simon had no signal and tried to go to the surface to make a call which kind of did
I had an Uncle who got a really nasty cancer; it was very bad toward the end, he had a very morphine pump. On his last trip to visit us at our home, he would sometimes gaze out our big picture window, one time he said to my Dad did you see them, those horses. We live in town, there has never been any horses in our yard. It was very sobering to realize the Big strong Uncle I knew, wasn't going to be around much longer, seeing death in his face even as a 12-year-old. Hearing my Parents and Aunt's hushed whispers as they discussed when would be the best time to visit their home one more time. It was sad, I can believe the main character's point of view cannot be trusted at all, if he is using morphine.
First off dude I’m so sorry you had to through that… it’s never easy seeing someone you love slowly deteriorate. My great grandmother had dementia and seeing her slowly forget who I was hurt. Another yeah when Simon was talking to Sophie about the gas mask doctor guy and monsters it felt like this conversation did in fact happen sometime before his accident. So what you were describing with ur late uncle sounds eerily similar to what the game was trying to display

Both Cry of Fear and Afraid of Monsters seem to draw heavy inspiration from Silent Hill 2 in one aspect. That's what I like the most about these games. Even if the author himself didn't take inspiration, the similarities are just uncanny.

Well, as someone following very similiar path to Simon, damn, this game hits like a fucking truck. All the aspects are just so relatable, and it's all so real. On multiple occasion I just said to myself "dayum, this warning about suicide was pretty on point". The experience was similiar to how Simon describes the book in ending 3. Made me realize how fucked the situation really is. I didn't dig into it or anything, but how realistic the experience was and the metaphors being so much on point hints that Andreas must've been through some shit. I mean, there's some things you can know and undertstand but you won't know the full extend if you haven't experienced it yourself.

Somehow for me the camera quality made a much more immersive to watch like an old video, If it was intentional or not, I loved that effect it had with the vibe of the game. Awesome video overall!

I'm not sure how long you've been a fan of cry of fear, but I remember this game from when I was a kid, I'm turning 21 on the 9th. It's pretty crazy how cry of fear went from the "scariest game ever" in the 2010's, faded to the background, and is now making a resurgence with all the recent videos on it by other creators. I'm glad it's getting the praise it deserves

Just stumbled on your channel randomly. Many years ago I tried Cry of Fear and I absolutely hated it. I didn't get why people treated it like the second coming. It seemed absolutely amateurish. Watching your video and coming to understand that it was written by an actual teenager and created by that same teenager gives me a fresher perspective. I’ll be honest I had the same thought when I first started playing I didn’t like the game at all if anything I liked afraid of monsters more but actually playing through. It was a lot of fun. Also tap into that co-op. I hear that’s really fun too.
this video is my first exposure to fear of monsters and cry of fear, and i agree in that its not as brilliant to me as some other media ive consumed, but i still really really appreciate the talent and hard work that went into the game. plus i enjoy uris commentary
Afraid of Monsters and Cry of Fear are so special that i still get scared at times no matter how many times i replay it 🤣 (Just watched the vid and i think i found my favorite channel. Love the humor and how you explain stuff)
I think that there is merit in exploring the horror of suddenly finding yourself completely disabled while living in the world we do. Haven’t finished the video yet (so you may talk about this point) but that’s literally what The Metamorphosis is all about: what happens when one finds oneself suddenly incapable of participating in society like they once did due to some fluke. And whats worse: this change is considered both freakish/disgusting, to which no one will assist and generally prefer if you just weren’t around at all. It’s not bad enough that someone suddenly has lost their ability to stand or write or speak or etc. anymore, but also their boss is calling them into work, rents due, chronic pain, and the people on the street look at them like a freak of nature. It’s a terrifying reality.
you did a great job going over these games and its themes with mental illness and addiction. also i love the finale and going over the mortality and struggles of these games and their story. also dang did not know rumple was 12 when he did his first game and its maturity and seriousness is interesting. also your word choice and explanation help show the melancholic beauty in these stories and their journey.
I beat this whole game, unlocks and all endings, with an S Rank last Halloween. Worked up a bunch of courage and energy to finally do this game, after more than 10 years since first seeing it back in high school. CoF had such a tragic story, with Simon coming close to death so many times. Total throwback! 💯👌😎😱☠️👻

For the person who lost many people in life get a epilepsy after losing the most inporntant human in your life as a man ,lost your best friend ,other friends and falling in depression i undestand the game verry well. Rejection of Sophy is like my first live i feel lose a good part of my life after she betray me whit future husband ,i don't know i try to accept that to move on but it fells like you lose someone who is meet to be whit you . Everything whit her was maybe the best experience in my life i just learn to fell love and immediate fall in hell try to heal my self ,i try to change my pass whit someone but again the same thing over and over . and know i have 28 age alone my family force me to marry but i can do that alone ,i don't have someone to understand my fellings . Cry o fear is like try to escape to your worst nightmare ! but in the end maybe i gone be alone forever .... maybe thats the cycle of my life .

I can't sit here and say I totally understand where you are coming from because I've never been through nearly as much as you have (also I'm 22 so I'm a baby) but what I can say I sympathize with you.. I've lost friends and family and it's a weird thing to say but sometimes I forget they're even gone until I go to reach out. Same with some past relationships; things were so good and then boom things will never be the way they once were.. but this is where I want you to hear what I'm saying. Change is a part of life and it's not always a bad thing, it just depends on how you look at it. I've had a pipe dream to become a full-blown comic artist but here I am trying to change my direction into making UA-cam content, and I'm having the time of my life doing it. I believe once you begin to improve your mental state whether that's finding a hobby, going to therapy, getting medicated, whatever it may be, try to look into yourself and find what makes you happy, because once you're a peace with yourself it doesn't matter what your past relationship is doing, you now have more love to give, and more love receive. Hey, the spear also could be a reference to the Lance of Longinus, the spiral spear stuck into the side of Jesus Christ while he was crucified. You probably recognize it from its reference in Evangelion. I argue that its also the intent behind the Pyramid Head scene in the SH2 ending. Usually when you see a spear, its either about being a warrior or being crucified.
I still remember when i first played CoF. It was about a year after my dad passed, so i kinda related to simon atleast on the depression side of things
Your main mission in Spec Ops: The Line wasn't even a rescue. It was to confirm if people were still alive in Dubai. All of that death was eventually meaningless, the situation there was being sorted out
i’ve gotten all the unlockables and endings HAHA i love cry of fear, it’s really a big part of my relationship with my boyfriend which this game made us call more and get more connected LOL, i used to play cof a lot with my brother years ago, glad this game is still up :)
You are correct to be honest that’s why I plan to revisit older games like Fran bow Lisa, the painful stuff like that because the devs really loved making it and it shows I also kind of want to go back and play cyberpunk and AAA games like that just to see this sheer difference between a big team money grabbing in a small team with a passion project

Both Cry of Fear and Afraid of Monsters seem to draw heavy inspiration from Silent Hill 2 in one aspect. That's what I like the most about these games. Even if the author himself didn't take inspiration, the similarities are just uncanny.

Well, as someone following very similiar path to Simon, damn, this game hits like a fucking truck. All the aspects are just so relatable, and it's all so real. On multiple occasion I just said to myself "dayum, this warning about suicide was pretty on point". The experience was similiar to how Simon describes the book in ending 3. Made me realize how fucked the situation really is. I didn't dig into it or anything, but how realistic the experience was and the metaphors being so much on point hints that Andreas must've been through some shit. I mean, there's some things you can know and undertstand but you won't know the full extend if you haven't experienced it yourself.
Considering he made Afraid of Monsters at age 12, definitely.

I'm not sure how long you've been a fan of cry of fear, but I remember this game from when I was a kid, I'm turning 21 on the 9th. It's pretty crazy how cry of fear went from the "scariest game ever" in the 2010's, faded to the background, and is now making a resurgence with all the recent videos on it by other creators. I'm glad it's getting the praise it deserves

Watching your video and coming to understand that it was written by an actual teenager and created by that same teenager gives me a fresher perspective. I’ll be honest I had the same thought when I first started playing I didn’t like the game at all if anything I liked afraid of monsters more but actually playing through. It was a lot of fun. Also tap into that co-op. I hear that’s really fun too.
this video is my first exposure to fear of monsters and cry of fear, and i agree in that its not as brilliant to me as some other media ive consumed, but i still really really appreciate the talent and hard work that went into the game. plus i enjoy uris commentary

I think that there is merit in exploring the horror of suddenly finding yourself completely disabled while living in the world we do. Haven’t finished the video yet (so you may talk about this point) but that’s literally what The Metamorphosis is all about: what happens when one finds oneself suddenly incapable of participating in society like they once did due to some fluke. And whats worse: this change is considered both freakish/disgusting, to which no one will assist and generally prefer if you just weren’t around at all. It’s not bad enough that someone suddenly has lost their ability to stand or write or speak or etc. anymore, but also their boss is calling them into work, rents due, chronic pain, and the people on the street look at them like a freak of nature. It’s a terrifying reality.

I beat this whole game, unlocks and all endings, with an S Rank last Halloween. Worked up a bunch of courage and energy to finally do this game, after more than 10 years since first seeing it back in high school. CoF had such a tragic story, with Simon coming close to death so many times. Total throwback! 💯👌😎😱☠️👻

Same with some past relationships; things were so good and then boom things will never be the way they once were.. but this is where I want you to hear what I'm saying. Change is a part of life and it's not always a bad thing, it just depends on how you look at it. I've had a pipe dream to become a full-blown comic artist but here I am trying to change my direction into making UA-cam content, and I'm having the time of my life doing it.
I believe once you begin to improve your mental state whether that's finding a hobby, going to therapy, getting medicated, whatever it may be, try to look into yourself and find what makes you happy, because once you're a peace with yourself it doesn't matter what your past relationship is doing, you now have more love to give, and more love receive. I’d say replicant is fine as a stand alone. Reincarnation didn’t add too much extra except for a couple of things like the ship quest line and one of the endings if I remember correctly.

Hey, the spear also could be a reference to the Lance of Longinus, the spiral spear stuck into the side of Jesus Christ while he was crucified. You probably recognize it from its reference in Evangelion. I argue that its also the intent behind the Pyramid Head scene in the SH2 ending. Usually when you see a spear, its either about being a warrior or being crucified.
I still remember when i first played CoF. It was about a year after my dad passed, so i kinda related to simon atleast on the depression side of things
Your main mission in Spec Ops: The Line wasn't even a rescue. It was to confirm if people were still alive in Dubai. All of that death was eventually meaningless, the situation there was being sorted out

You are correct to be honest that’s why I plan to revisit older games like Fran bow Lisa, the painful stuff like that because the devs really loved making it and it shows I also kind of want to go back and play cyberpunk and AAA games like that just to see this sheer difference between a big team money grabbing in a small team with a passion project
