You’ll be saving HUGE if you put cloth diapers on your baby shower registry and get them as gifts!👌🏼 That way you’ll never have to pay for a diaper! 🙀

You have to take into consideration so much more with cloth diapering. For one, time. Time for some is money and for others might just be doing ANYTHING else....not going to calculate that. One must also consider water, electricity, and detergent use. I did a few small calculations based on my household and I estimate an additional $550 per year for the 3 things above based on someone saying they do an additional 2-3 loads of diapers per week.
Also you have to consider other upfront costs like the bin, bin liners, and wet bags. $550x3 is an additional $1650 on top of your pricing for cloth diapers over 3 years.
My guess is the cost of one to the other is nearly negligible and personal preferences take priority.

I agree with your comments so much more need to be taken into consideration. The math is wrong in this video.

Ultimately, I think it is more of an environmental issue than an economic issue.

Using them for future kids too helps with cost! Plus they’re just so cute!

Good points in this video. I understand other commenters want to bring up other expenses, but overall there are so many variables. I spent more than . 25 cents per diaper sometimes especially when trying out "better" disposables.

The disposable costs can be way cheaper than that. The brands we liked are currently .11-.15 per diaper. We liked the store brands the most though.
Couponing makes a huge difference too. I was really into couponing when my second kid was in diapers and was getting such good deals on diapers and wipes that I was reselling diapers higher than what I got them for but cheaper than the store and wound up breaking even so it was like my kids diapers were free. Our first we had gotten so many diapers at the baby shower taht we didn't buy a single diaper ourselves until he was 1.5 years old lol.
I'm looking at cloth for environmental reasons for our final baby.

Yes cloth diapering is cheaper, but you need to add the cost of the inserts, flats or prefolds that you will have to also buy because not all diapers come with those and if they do most come with microfiber which sucks. Water usage for those who pay, electricity and detergent. At the end you so save but not over 1,000 dollars per year maybe 600 the most. I personally do it more for the environment, my kids health and then last the savings.

Absolutely things to factor in! A $17 diaper (the figure I used) should come with much better than microfiber inserts though. Or if you average the quality out that would be some crappy ones with additional inserts and some good ones.
The other costs (I talked about hem in other comments) are so variable and dependent on location, etc. That it would be near to impossible to include them in a short video, but for sure should be on your radar. Usually though, MUCH less than $1500.
      Good points! :-)

You forgot to calculate the cost of washing in the equation.
Do not get me wrong, it is far much cheaper to cloth diaper, but there is also water usage and detergent part of the cost.
Your numbers are probably not far off from the savings.

I've calculated the water before and its negligible. For me it was about a dollar a month. Many on well water don't even pay for water.
It also depends so heavily on where you live and how often you hope to wash it would be impossible to estimate.
Detergent is definately a cost, but then you get into how much you need to use based on water type, washer type, brand, and so on. Its an extra load of laundry every day to four days if that helps people. :-)

She also didn't calculate waste tax for the disposables. It just really depends on where you live if water+electricity or waste tax will be expensive or not.

Good point! I've never had a waste tax so it's not something on my radar.
This video is strictly the price for the diapers, you're right. I feel like the rest varies so much, a single video would have to be 3 hours long to cover all the variables, ha ha.
I will definately add to the online article though to remind people of these variables!
I'm still confident $15,000 would cover any additional costs (or even more with the waste tax), ha ha, but it's good to have all this in mind too.
      Thank you!!!

Coming from someone who has 7 children and having not cloth diapered my previous 6 I don’t find any change in the water bill. You have to do more laundry when you have babies. Factor in the poosplosions that happened when the disposables couldn’t sufficiently handle a poopy situation, factor in accidents and messy eating factor in vomit factor in postpartum mom things. Cloth doesn’t run up the bill any more than it would using disposables in my and a lot of people’s experience if they are honest and truthful.🌺

Just wondering what the sizes are like - so what age range can each one cover?

      Thanks for watching!
Usually, theres newborn sizes and one-size diapers. One-size diapers normally fit from about 8-10 lbs to about 35 lbs depending on the brand.
There are 'sized diapers' as well, but they are becoming more rare.
The retailer will list the weight ranges on their product pages.

But you never took in to consideration of the Laundry cost to wash them per load.

    • @ClothDiapersforBeginners
      @ClothDiapersforBeginners  7 місяців тому

That cost depends A LOT on where you live, how you get your water, what type of power your washer runs on, etc. I've surveyed the audience before, asking them how much they think they spend on these things and the cost is cents not dollars for most. It's all included in the written article here: clothdiapersforbeginners.com/saving-money/how-much-do-cloth-diapers-cost/
