@terri don’t you find that the younger moms have made cloth diapers way more complicated? My grandparents and even my mom used them with me. It wasn’t all that complex. (Nothing against this channel whatsoever).
Interesting to say the least, I am a great grandmother of five with another on the way . I want to teach my grand daughter who is about to have the youngest of our family clan about cloth diapers. How ever I did not own a washer when my first or even my second child was born so had to use a scrub board to get them clean -and yes i used drift baby soap . after scrubbing the tar out of them( so to speak ) , I hung them on a clothes line in the sun ( could not afford a drier ) . the sun bleach them nicely even in winter . Though I did bring them in the house frozen lol , and then laid them on a wooden rack to finish drying . And I did fold them up nice and neat while the babies were sleeping after I washed the dishes by hand ( yes I was a stay at home mother ) Guess you ladies life is a lot easier now with the washer , driers ,dish washer ect.. guess we did do it the hard way -though it did build up our arm muscles and made our back stronger. Yes dear ,I am way old school . Even had glass milk jugs back in my day. :)
Aug 2020 Im wash my dishes and cloth diaper with hands and sun dry too. My dryer and dishwashers are broken no money to get a new one but im ok. I wonder how you keep your hand moist. my hands get so dry ;/ Thank you
You are exactly what I am inspired by ma'am. Yes !!! I am so excited to see someone using this method of cloth diapering!! This is the same style of diapers and washing method that I used for 15 years ! Trust me mamas ! This is the best ! Don’t get caught up in the cuteness of those all in ones . Save yourself time and money and follow this method!
For those of us who don't have sun most of the year, vinegar works well to strip them. Just run them through a rinse after u wash them with vinegar and detergent
Watching this has made so much sense. I am only just about to start my cloth journey and have been so overwhelmed with all the websites and routines but your routine and detergent methods have really calmed me down! I’m so much more excited to try now. Thank you!!!
I'm a grandma now but in the 70s and 80s I still used cloth diapers even as the 80s began the hard sell on disposables. Disposables were WAY too expensive back then to use everyday. You saved them for special occasions when you were out of town visiting grandma and didn't want to haul around soiled diapers all day. You are spot on for the technique. I presoaked in the pail with water and borax or a small amount of detergent, poured the whole pail water and all in the top loader, ran the spin cycle to drain everything then did a two wash cycle wash like you do. The only time I used disposable diapers was with my last baby and only if we were going to be out of the house literally all day visiting people and stores where carrying around a ziplock style vinyl bag with soiled diapers in my fresh clean diaper bag would be a stinky drudge on an already challenging day. Or occasionally if we were at all day family get togethers. same reason. where to store soiled diapers without grossing everybody out.
We have a front load washer and I put the dirties in a wet bag. When it's time to wash I unzip the top of the wet bag and put it in the washer. The first cold wash removes the nappies from the bag so you don't need to touch them 😊
Just came across you as we’re prepping for baby #4 who’s due in July. I just love your videos, and your realness! Your personality is such a breath of fresh air in this insane time we’re in!
Omg THANK YOU... You have no idea how I've been waiting this video... Im due in july, first time momma. I love your baby videos because is so easy to get overwealmed with so much stuff and info and what not... I trust you so much lol and it empowers me: If she can do baby stuff minimal It can be done ;)... I just want peace of mind to bond with my baby... THANK YOu again :D !!!!!!!
Your advise is excellent! I had my children in the 1960 and I used cloth also and washed the same as you and my three children were very healthy. You have a wonderful channel. Keep up the important information.
You’re the one youtuber I actually look forward to seeing their videos and immediately click to watch the newest one! 💕so happy you did this video.. our cloth diaper wash routines are almost identical.. except I add an extra quick rinse cycle to make sure all the soap is gone. Will be trying that dry laundry soap recipe soon!
Thanks for this! I'm going on my second child and have been doing cloth diapering "part-time" with my first, but now I'm convinced I'll go "full time" thanks to your great tips for saving time (I'll chuck all in dryer and they won't fall apart) and other tips I've learnt on other of your videos. THANK YOU! Love your style and straight talk.
So I have been using the liquid recipe from your site for a little while now and I just used it on my cloth! They smell and look amazing!!! Huge win and they just feel cleaner than when using store bought soap!
Thank you Lisa. My daughter is almost a year and I just started ti use cloth diapers because I notice how much trash we can avoid by using it through the day. I love it.
I always soaked the soiled diapers (and used the same toilet technique for poop) in a diaper pail and poured the whole thing in the washer and ran it through a spin cycle to drain. I used the pre folded diapers, pins and plastic pants. I loved using cloth diapers so much. My girls never had a problem with diaper rash.
Thanks for this video! Cloth diapering really doesn't have to be complicated at all. I have a similar routine when I'm cloth diapering. I also leave the clean diapers in the basket and use them from there. I have enough laundry to fold, lol! In the past I had a lot of problems with leaking and stinking specifically with pocket diapers and microfiber. I was too lazy to lay them out in the sun and used bleach too frequently instead. My natural fibers (especially bamboo) broke down too quickly. This time I'm going to use a lot more sun! It's been a few years for me, and I'm having another this fall, so I'm watching these videos as a reminder.
Thank you for making this so much more realistic. The articles and Facebook groups are so overwhelming explaining how you HAVE to do things, I felt like keeping it simple was going to be impossible. We recently found your page and podcast and have so many similar interests and values, thank you for sharing so much useful and realistic information! 🤍
Oh i didnt know that it helps. Then, no more skipping for Lisa ♡ she helped me alot, watching an ad would be just a little something that i can give back to her :)
Love this video. I use a stainless steel garbage can too. I actually keep it in my garage and still use a large wet bag inside. I don’t have to clean the plastic insert. I also use a small ‘travel’ wet bag during the day that I keep in the bathroom. When it’s full I put it in the garage with the rest of them. No diaper smell in my house. Disposable diapers (when needed) go in a container on my deck outside. Friends and family with kids in diapers know to throw the diapers outside on the deck. I use tide free and clear! Definitely want to dry your dry detergent. Thanks for sharing. Ps. LOVE your top!!! It looks very good on you.
I’ve always heard not to use homemade detergent but that’s great that it works for you! I tried a bunch of natural detergents but tide was the only thing that worked for us (which I hate!) but our washer isn’t very good so I think that’s why. But I never had to strip at all. Can we just talk about how amazing your laundry room is?!?!?!?! It’s so dreamy!!!! One day I’m going to have a laundry room like that!!!!
Farmhouse on Boone I've heard this also about homemade detergent for diapers or anything else you wash so I stopped using mine. Body oils and yuck seem to build up and we did notice over time our clothes didn't seem very clean. :-/ I'm glad it seems to work for you though! If you feel like it read this article though and let me know your thoughts. abetterwaytothrive.com/trouble-homemade-laundry-detergent/
I’ve also heard to not use homemade. I’ve tried natural detergents and they didn’t work. Had to end up using tide. I think the type of water being hard water etc has a lot to do with it.
The big deal with homemade detergent is this new "fad" or trend in CD is to use a diy detergent of just oxyclean, borax and wash soda. It is all over CD sites and groups. None are really soaps but all boosters and stain fighters therefore you dont actually have clean diapers. Ew! The internet is so hard to navigate and there is SO much information that it is often more confusing than helpful
When my son was little..he had an accident in his pants and tried to clean them himself..which I did the same way you do with holding the pants in your hand and flushing. Well, he didn’t hold them tight enough. They went down the toilet and plugged up several apartment sewer line..oh my. I’m so glad they are potty trained now..of course now they are 41 and 44!! Lol!!
You are just so good at making videos! All your info is amazing - and your videography is excellent! So great to watch - informative AND beautiful! I have loved ALL the style videos (dinners, sourdough info/recipes, baby essentials/wraps/nappies, day in the life). Just a dream! Well done ! And you do all this with kids. Just so appreciate you sharing this knowledge!
The thing with homemade laundry soap is that bar soap is not designed for modern washing machines. It's great for handwashing though! Soap causes build up (like soap scum in your shower) especially on multilayers of fabric. It can also build up in your washing machine and cause it to break. I use to make my own laundry soap before I had kids and I believe it is what caused my brand new whirlpool washer to die. It was only 5 years old. I have noticed that people have more issues with homemade laundry soap if they have hard water as well. Hard water can be tricky because of all the minerals that can redeposit in fabrics which also causes a build up that can trap bacteria when washing human waste which leads to dingy colored clothes, smells, and things just not coming clean. You don't want to do too many extra rinses if you have hard water as well because it will just keep redepositing minerals unless you add a water softener. With a good detergent you won't have this issue and there would be no need to "strip". There are detergents out now that are more eco/green/natural that also work really well with cloth diapers. As for zinc oxide, as long as it's not a glob being used for a diaper rash while still in cloth, using a zinc oxide cream is fine. It may cause some staining, but it shouldn't cause build up. It's the petroleum in most diaper creams that cause build up on diapers (like desitin). It's great that you have been using your soap without any issues, I just wanted to add this info just in case others have issues and can't figure out why. It sounds like you don't have hard water. I don't either and never noticed problems with homemade laundry soap until my washer died. I also wanted to add that just because products are advertised for babies (like Dreft) it doesn't mean they have less chemicals. Its typically the same detergent as other mainstream stuff just with a different fragrance to smell more baby like. It's also more expensive because of advertisement.
Farmhouse on Boone you're welcome! I was a bit cloth diaper obsessed with my first kid. I hang around a lot of the groups on Facebook to keep up with things.
I've been using the homemade liquid detergent on my pocket Diapers for a month. They are now completely repellant and won't absorb 😭 I don't know what to do.
Glad you made this I used a similar method to clean mine as well years ago I did have a sprayer installed into my laundry sink and it made life so much easier for me! Sending my love to you from another missouri girl!
Good memories! I used cloth diapers with both of mine because they couldn’t wear disposables. My Mama taught me how to fold them with another folded diaper to catch the heavier flows, then the little plastic pants on top...and oh yes, the diaper pins! I rinsed the soiled diapers just like you! Then I put them in a lidded pail with some cold water and a small amount of borax, also my Mama’s way. Then about every other day I did a load. Like you said nursing babies are easy, easy, easy and almost odorless but when that solid food is introduced...🤢 I would pour off the water drop the diapers into hot water wash with Ivory Snow detergent. (Do they still make that?) Then I hung them outside on the clothes line. They smelled so good when I brought them in. (We didn’t have a dryer then.) My Mama told me that the diapers absorbed vitamins from the sun that was good for the baby. I don’t know if that was scientifically valid or not but that’s how I did it. I miss those days, it sounds crazy I know. 😜 I’m glad that moms now have those reusable diapers with these hand sewn inserts...how fantastic! 👶🏼🥰🙌🏻
I love this video! I'm due in February with my first baby that I plan to use cloth with and this video made me feel so much better about the cleaning routine. Some videos and articles make it seem so complicated. I was wondering, what would you do if you bought second hand diapers? Should I strip in bleach and then wash a bunch or what?
Thank you for sharing a healthy lifestyle videos :) I'm always waiting for a new video from you. You are awesome. I'm so thankful to God I found you here on UA-cam! Unsubscribed from many because it just wasted my time. Your channel has everything in one, perfect, to the point and minimalist for me! Just what I need :)) Thank you once again!
I searched for how to wash cloth diapers.. thats how I ended up here lol. I am excited, I JUST bought some cloth diapers. My situation is probably different than most moms on here- I have 4 kids, and most of them are out of diapers, but they wear diapers at night. But I am SO tired of diapers being everywhere! Before I felt I didn't have the mental capacity to do the washing and organizing, but now with the stages that my kids are at, I think I can do it! We will see hahaha.
Hi Lisa!! Great video! Kudos to you for using cloth diapers. And if the way you do it works for you...then that’s all that matters 😁. Incase you don’t post before Sunday...happy Mother’s Day 💐😉!!!!
Hello there! I am a soon to be first time mom and have been looking into cloth diapering. I have been watching your minamilist video and the part one to this and thank you for them! They have been so helpful especially on DIY. I do have a question on how do you handle cloth diapering when out in public. Specifically the process of changing your baby? Where do you store the cloths since you have to wait until you get home to wash? Is their a specific smell proof bag you put them in? If so details on what you use please. And lastly about the bar soap of dr. Castillo, do you order that online? And about the other 2 ingredients you use for the dry detergent you home make is that online too? Thank you ahead of time for your help :)
The difference that makes her laundry soap work with diapers is she uses dr. Bronners. A lot of the recipes use things like fels naptha. Dr bronners is fantastic though. It’s not like other soaps. This isn’t a detergent though. It is a soap. Different chemical composition. Also you would need soft water. You could also sub them wet when you need a little more disinfection. I love cloth diapers! I use a flat/wool system and they are so simple.
I really want to make the powder detergent now! I’ve read way too many articles on the internet about how terrible it is to use homemade detergent (I’ve never heard anything about powder, it was always about using homemade liquid detergent)... Also, I’m so so so glad to hear somebody only washing their diapers every 4 days... I’ve always read it can’t go longer than 2-3 days, and my water bill has gone up around $15 because of how often I have to do laundry now 😣 I am SO thrilled that it’s finally warm and sunny in the Midwest so I can finally line-dry my diapers! ☀️ thank you for the advice. I love the community that your blog and videos have created.
The castiel & dr bronners soap can cause repelling and build up especially if you have hard water -- especially on pocket and all in one style diapers. The best recipe ive found for cloth is equal parts oxyclean, super washing soda & borax. (Very similar to rockin green) 2 TBSP per load. Interested with the new baby if youd do an updated routine/favorite diaper review.
Hi :) I'm super new to all this my husband and I are adopting soon. I'm a nanny and have changed many diapers but never cloth ones. How many inserts do you think are necessary to start out with a new born? Since they go so often also how do you deal with the tar poops in the beginning.. would that ruin the insert or does it come out? Thanks! I love your blog I watched your pickle video this morning and I'm definitely going to give it a try! I love fermenting!
I use cloth menstrual pads and my laundry detergent is a mix of equal parts borax and washing soda. I soak them for so long and they always come out super clean! Sometimes i dont even have to scrub with my laundry bar!
This is so encouraging that the routine can be so easy. I will say I am having troubles with stains even though I am also doing just a cold water cycle first. Any thoughts on this? I don’t want to use a stain remover but don’t want yellow stains on every insert. Thanks for any advice!
9 years? i think you're an expert lol. I want to use cloth diapers but afraid of the washing and removing. they seem so costly but really.. probably SO much cheaper to buy 200 dollars worth of cloth diapers and inserts then more on throw aways.
Hello! You have inspired me to make most of my baby registry cloth diaper essentials! I'm going with with flip cover and prefold combo. Can I wash them all together with a free and clear detergent?
Hi! I've found this video 2 years later. But, super thankful it is here! Question: I would like to use the liquid Dr. Bronner's Castile soap instead of the bar. What measurements would you recommend for Dr. Bronner's to Borax to Washing Soda to Essential Oil drops? I read the liquid recipe you linked, but this one is preferred, just with the liquid Dr. Bronner's. Thanks!
Oh, to add, some other commenter says there's a liquid recipe up on her site! ☺️ *(But I just read that Borax may be a hormone disruptor and you may think to be careful)
Do you iron them after washing? Because I wash them once (my girl is 6 months now) and iron and it works pretty fine)) thanx for the idea with the soap and For this video!!)
Thank you for this - in your recipe I didn’t see how much of the powder detergent to put in the washer. If you put 1 part soap 2 parts washing soda and borax then how much of that recipe goes into the washer?
I have never heard of this 'washing the diaper in the toilet'-method before! I must say, in the first moment I was 😳 and am still unsure, if I would really do it🙈Yet it is SO practicable and waste reducing, I find!
What do you do if you're out and about and need to change their diaper? Also do you have any insight if you have to send kids to daycare or to a sitter? I love the idea of cloth diapers but am wondering how manageable it is for someone who is not a stay at home mom. Would love any thoughts you have on this!
Hello! I recently made my own laundry detergent for the first time, following the recipe from you book. I made a powder and liquid detergent. i am having an issue with the clothes smelling kinda moldy and like they haven't been washed even after washing and drying them. Could there be something I'm doing wrong? Do I need to do a powder and liquid detergent for ALL our laundry? I love the idea of the amount of money this could save, but really want our clothes to smell like the nice lavender I added to the detergent instead of mothballs lol :)
Love your Videos! I made the liquid detergent but it isn’t as liquidy as yours, it’s a little chunky... : / have you had that happen? Would you recommend adding more water? Also, is using the liquid detergent for both cold and hot cycles fine?
Hi Lisa! I’m expecting my first baby and planning to cloth diaper. This video is so helpful! My mom used cloth diapers with me and my sisters. She would soak them in a bucket of borax water until it was time to wash a load. Do you put borax water in your diaper pail? Or are they just put in damp from the toilet method? Thanks for all your helpful info! I’m thoroughly enjoying your channel as a new subscriber. 😊
Looking into the econobums for our first baby! I’m a little unclear on whether you wash the plastic shell cover along with the inserts or if you just wipe/rinse those off outside of the laundry and then just launder the inserts/prefolds?
Hi, I'm new to your channel but love it already. I'm hoping to get back into cloth nappying again for my 2 girls, but use prefolds instead of flats. Ok, I'll be honest, I'll probably try just folding the flats to the shape of a prefold and sit it in the cover instead of buying all new stuff, but I'm assuming it will work much the same. We have severe drought and water restrictions here in Aus and shouldn't even flush when we use the toilet for wees, so flushing a few times to get the poop out is not really ideal. Any other ideas of how to do it without using so much water? And also, after you've got the poo off, do you wring them out or just put them in the nappy pail completely wet? Is the pail enclosed, or do you do the open dry pail? And lastly, how often would you try to get them washed, every day, every 2nd day? I will have 2 in nappies but always feel so discouraged by the crazy wash routines that everyone says I have to use Thank you :)
You’re doing a great job. Wonderful to know there are young people endeavouring to live “the natural, healthy life” & bringing up their children to appreciate the benefits of their lifestyle. My only concern about the diaper washing is dunking the diaper in the toilet. 1. Other people may not be as hygienic as you are - so may I recommend you give an alternative instruction for that part of your process. 2. Regardless of a toilet being cleaned before flushing the soil off the diaper, it is very unlikely most toilets would be completely bacteria free. My husband commented yesterday “have you ever noticed most other toilets aren’t clean like ours” - I replied “Well, I do clean ours thoroughly every day, besides any of us using it giving it a brush!” (I still wouldn’t like to use my toilet to dunk baby’s diapers in though!) May I suggest using some toilet paper to remove surplus soil from the diaper, (use dedicated spatula or soft brush if needed) then flush remains down your laundry tub under running cold water before transferring to your bucket for soaking etc. Wash the tub & accessories with hot soapy water & you’re all set. Grandmother of 13 here........yes, I know - grandmas don’t know everything :)
I think that would be a great idea! Depending on the level of lime in your water. It also acts as a light, natural bleacher. Better for the cloth and the machine would be citric acid.
Microfleece!!! Hahaha i was yelling. My goodness we have so much in common you and I. I cloth bummed for 9 years too my eldest is almost 10. How hot is a hot hot wash??
From my experience, Desitin is petroleum based. Bordeauxs butt paste has always worked well with my diapers and never left a film on my diapers. I'll definitely try your rash cream though, did it cost more or less than the butt paste?
Do you not find that the hot wash sets in any stains? Also, I love the way you feel about the not stripping with bleach. How would you feel about washing used diapers? I had someone give me a ton of inserts but want to make sure they are super clean before I use them
So I live in a place that gets cold in the winter. The sun hasn’t shined in a while. How would you strip without sun light? We moved into a house where there was hard water and lots of laundry softener used in my machines and washed my diapers there a few times and gave up because my son was wetting through everything consistently. Is there any saving my diapers without heavy chemicals?
Hi boonie i have been following you from quite a while now and i love your videos and parenting i wanted to ask you a question i did cloth diapering for my 1st born it went well now with the second one i took out my stash of diapers and they got really rough and hard i am afraid what i did wrong and a few of them which i kept using are very soft is there a way to make them soft again as its giving my baby rash every time I put on him.. TIA
When I started cloth diapering I did the pockets and all in twos with the microfiber inserts and it was a nightmare. I finally simplified (2 kids later) to natural fibers inside a cover and its my favorite method. So much simpler! How many diapers do you have and where do you store the basket that they live in?
Hey Lisa! I watched the video and read your description, but I am still wondering how much detergent you use. Perhaps I missed it? You said don't use too much but I'm curious the amount that works for your wash cycle, please. Looking forward to your book!
Just a general question. I don't cloth diaper (and really only did for a short time) and my baby is now a teenager. But my sister cloth diapers and I like passing on helpful hints to her, and videos. Can you use vinegar in the rinse cycle for cloth diapers? I know it works wonders on towels, and other clothing so I was wondering if it worked with diapers too? Also can you use Vinegar and the home made laundry detergent together? Thanks for the info!
I’m a grandmother now, and I did use cloth diapers when I had babies. Everything you say is true and correct here. I wish all young moms would follow your advice. Cloth diapers are so soft and luxurious for babies. I’m waiting for your book to be released, I want it!

What a neat women you are. You should write a book about your experiences
I love this! You need to tell more women about your experiences! We are so pampered these days!
You are exactly what I am inspired by ma'am. I do house chores the hard way because we are quite lower than middle class but my husband and I are happy and we are saving so we can be stable enough for a child.

For those of us who don't have sun most of the year, vinegar works well to strip them. Just run them through a rinse after u wash them with vinegar and detergent

Thanks Livvy. I plan on using wet bags too so great to know its so easy with a front leader:-)
This was so encouraging to new cloth diaper users! Thank you so much for the easy and simple how to!

Thank you Lisa. My daughter is almost a year and I just started ti use cloth diapers because I notice how much trash we can avoid by using it through the day. I love it.
I would love if you did an updated Cloth Diaper video !! I just started cloth 2 months ago 🙂
Thank you! I’ve been overwhelmed with the idea of CDing but I’m starting today.
You're so welcome!
You are the only youtuber I watch the full ads for and don’t skip 😂💗
😂😂Well thanks! Mama has to pay for all these kids. LOL
Does it Help the UA-camr if i Dont skip Ads??
Yes. They get $$. Just a little per ad as I understand it... but it adds up.
Oh i didnt know that it helps. Then, no more skipping for Lisa ♡ she helped me alot, watching an ad would be just a little something that i can give back to her :)
I will no longer skip the ads!
Thank you so much! And good idea on keeping them outside. I bet that reduces the stink a ton!
Thank you so much!! I haven't heard the thing about not using DIY detergent, but it has always worked fine for me. :)
I heard the homemade/diy detergent is not good for HE washers, bc it makes too much suds, and the machine not going to rinse it properly.
This helps me so much! I’m starting tomorrow lol and it makes me feel more confident!!
Lol!!
Oh yikes! My son always cries because he thinks I'm going to flush his undies down. LOL
Thanks for all the info!
@@georginaarmstrong7288 they need to be stripped. There are tons of instructions on line. Sun won't strip the build up but it'll get the stains out.
Love this, I was looking for a more natural way to wash our cloth diapers and this is just what I needed! And I have all the ingredients!!
That's great!
Glad you made this I used a similar method to clean mine as well years ago I did have a sprayer installed into my laundry sink and it made life so much easier for me! Sending my love to you from another missouri girl!
Oh hey neighbor! 😊
Make sure you keep all your prefolds and training pants you will love them for dusting and cleaning rags
LMAO! Love the "lazy cloth diaperer" I just started and you're right it is overwhelming. I'm so used to toddlers and not newborns lol. Great video!
Thank you!
You’re such a role model mom 🤩
This is such an awesome video. You make it sound so easy. I love that you use a dryer as my baby is due mid winter so there is very little sun.
Thank you so much!
Aww thanks so much Donna!!
I came back and watched this after getting stressed out by a Cloth Diaper Facebook page, LOL. Those ladies are serious about their wash routines.
Thank you for this super simple and insightful video!!!
You are a godsend thank you for sharing
the toilet method is genius thank you ! lol
I love your videos so much! Can’t wait to go check out your blog! ❤️❤️
Will soaking before washing help instead of washing twice just to save energy?
What brand should I use for washing soda? I'm a beginner in the cloth diapering. Im super excited and trying to wrap my head around all of it.
I’ve been waiting for this video!!! I need a better wash routine for mine!!! Thank you for sharing!
Awesome video! I tried cloth diapers decades ago and I loved that it's reusable but I was also working so I wasn't able to maintain it.
Since you don't like to use bleach, how would you sanitize pre-loved diapers?
I use cloth menstrual pads and my laundry detergent is a mix of equal parts borax and washing soda. I soak them for so long and they always come out super clean! Sometimes i dont even have to scrub with my laundry bar!
This is so encouraging that the routine can be so easy. I will say I am having troubles with stains even though I am also doing just a cold water cycle first. Any thoughts on this? I don’t want to use a stain remover but don’t want yellow stains on every insert. Thanks for any advice!
Laying diapers out in the sun can really help, you can also saturate the stain with lemon juice and let it sit in the sun. Wash afterwards and dry.
Love thirsties cloth diapers, about derteget love Norwex never had any issue not ammonia or rash at all...
9 years? i think you're an expert lol. I want to use cloth diapers but afraid of the washing and removing. they seem so costly but really.. probably SO much cheaper to buy 200 dollars worth of cloth diapers and inserts then more on throw aways.
Looking forward to your castille soap video! I'm allergic to Dr. Bronners and would love to make a hemp-free alternative.
The one I want to show is only coconut oil, so should work perfectly for you!
For the dry detergent, it’s one 5 oz bar of Castile Soap, and then what’s are your measurements for the washing soda and borax?
If following the 1:2:2 ratio she mentioned in the video then it would be 10 oz. each of borax and washing soda.
Hello!
You have inspired me to make most of my baby registry cloth diaper essentials!
I'm going with with flip cover and prefold combo. Can I wash them all together with a free and clear detergent?
Yes! I wash mine all together. :)
Bronner's. Thanks!
I bought a stash of pockets but plan to use them as covers for my baby due in February
Hi, can you link the brand of Borax and washing soda you use? Thank you!
Would you recommend putting white vinegar in the diaper pail to lessen the smell?
Hey girl! How often/ how do you clean the stainless steel insert in your trashcans that stir the dirty diapers?
If they need it I wash it....
How do you liquify this for a top load HE washer? I love that you're using Castile soap!
Oh, to add, some other commenter says there's a liquid recipe up on her site! ☺️ *(But I just read that Borax may be a hormone disruptor and you may think to be careful)
@@5050TM thank you. I don't use borax as of yet.
@@laniloveaj You're welcome
Do you iron them after washing? Because I wash them once (my girl is 6 months now) and iron and it works pretty fine)) thanx for the idea with the soap and For this video!!)
No, I don't iron. :)
Where did you get those jars? They’re so cute!
I get my jars from Walmart & thrift stores!
Try adding white vinegar to the rinse water. That's what I used to do.
Hi Lisa. Do you mean 2 cups of each when you say 2 parts of borax and washing soda and 1 part (1 bar) of the Castile soap?
I never did that but I don't see why that would hurt. Congratulations!
@@FarmhouseonBoone Thank you! 😊
Looking into the econobums for our first baby! I’m a little unclear on whether you wash the plastic shell cover along with the inserts or if you just wipe/rinse those off outside of the laundry and then just launder the inserts/prefolds?
Is oxyclean powder safe for washing cloth/pocket diapers?
How much powder detergent do you use in your loads? And do you wash your diaper covers and prefolds in the same load? I appreciate your content! 🤗
I will have 2 in nappies but always feel so discouraged by the crazy wash routines that everyone says I have to use
Thank you :)
Is the pail filled with water? No oxiclean...can you use this you think? Asking for my future self...I am taking some serious notes. #nokidsyet
I don't fill the pail, or soak them in anything. I don't use oxiclean either. The best thing to get stains out is laying them in the sun! 👍
How often do you wash your diapers after their used? Do you have to worry about them staying wet in the pale and get a stinky smell?
Can you explain how much detergent to use for the load size? Or do you just use a full cap/cup because its heavily soiled ? Im new to using nappies !
Is fels naphtha soap ok to use instead of the dr bronners soap bars?
Hi there. I don't know if you mentioned this but have you ever had to replace any of your cloth diapers/covers/etc?
I haven't used cloth diapers for several years now.
What are your thoughts on adding vinegar to the last load to help remove any soap build up? Or maybe once a month do a vinegar load with no soap?
I think that would be a great idea! Depending on the level of lime in your water. It also acts as a light, natural bleacher. Better for the cloth and the machine would be citric acid.
Microfleece!!! Hahaha i was yelling.
My goodness we have so much in common you and I. I cloth bummed for 9 years too my eldest is almost 10.
How hot is a hot hot wash??
Bwahahaa I totally spaced out for a minute, and couldn't think of it!
Also, just as hot as your hot water heater will go! :)
So when washing diapers it is not supposed to become sudsy? Just enough soap?
From my experience, Desitin is petroleum based. Bordeauxs butt paste has always worked well with my diapers and never left a film on my diapers. I'll definitely try your rash cream though, did it cost more or less than the butt paste?
Love your videos 👏
Thank you so much!
Do you not find that the hot wash sets in any stains? Also, I love the way you feel about the not stripping with bleach. How would you feel about washing used diapers? I had someone give me a ton of inserts but want to make sure they are super clean before I use them
I wash them on cold first to remove stains and then hot. I would wash and use used diapers, but thats just my opinion.
Great video Lisa! Any chance you could do one on toilet training?? Pretty please!! You must have it down pat by now ;) Thank you xx
As you could guess, I'm super laid back about it. I just put the kid in underwear and they figure it out pretty quickly! lol
I store it in our closet. I have so many odds and ends at this point. I don't even know how many.
How much do u use for the prewash and how much for the main wash?
Hey Lisa! I watched the video and read your description, but I am still wondering how much detergent you use. Perhaps I missed it? You said don't use too much but I'm curious the amount that works for your wash cycle, please. Looking forward to your book!
It depends on the size of the load, but about a tablespoon should do it. use about half the amount you would for normal clothes. :)
Yes you definitely could! I use dryer balls to soften them up. :) I don't know about the vinegar and detergent together, but I would assume so. :)
