One of the reasons why we love the 90s football so much is that players were allowed to make mistakes/ take chances. Guardiola would kick you out of the team if you miss so many long shots and deep passes in a season as Veron did in those Boca seconds.

Veron was a truly brilliant player, majestically gifted. Brilliant to watch, the type of player this generation of midfielder try to emulate. Being a United fan I loved it when he moved to united, a Great signing. But him and Keane in the same midfield just didn’t hit off, all of Veron’s better games were partnered with the likes of Nicky Butt, or P.Neville. Scholes set loose further forward behind Ruud. And Seba to run the show. One memorable moment for me was Veron’s perfect pass for Diego Forlan against Chelsea, to win 2-1 in (03) which opened the way to the title. Great memories of a football Legend, Seba Veron.

I'm a barnsley fan so my coverage is very EFL-Centric, however it's great to get an insight into topics surrounding the Scottish game as it helps us Tykes see where the likes of Nicky Cadden, Luca Connell and Conor McCarthy came from and how they were moulded into the players they are now

I always knew of Veron as a great player who couldn't cut it in the Prem but knew very little else. Really enjoyed this video very thorough and interesting with you sharing your own thoughts on him throughout. Look forward to watching you other content
i think he was a good player for united. it was just difficult to integrate him into that midfield and that must of affected his confidence. imagine coming into work and seeing paul scholes, one of the best midfielders in the world, in your position and thinking how am i ever going to to be able to force my way into this side. Then the media turned on him, in my opinion in a subverted racist tone due to his argentinian heritage, harking back ill feelings regarding the conflict in the 1980's. i think fergie tried to integrate with 5 in midfield but it affected the balance of the side to much and hence the reason he was sold on. to say he was a flop is unfair. respeto desde inglaterra señor veron!!!
agree he was great in his 2nd season especially in the UCL. Just got injured in the run in but still contributed well that season. Assist vs Chelsea and goals vs Arsenal come to mind.
One of my favourite players along with Figo..those years were the best years of football , you don’t see footballers like that anymore..great video thank you
Those late 90's early 2000's Lazio teams on Football Manager take me back. I was about 14 and always loved playing as Lazio. They had Peruzzi, Nesta, Mihajlović, Cuto, Sensini, Simeone, Nedvěd, Stanković, Verón, Claudio López, Salas, Crespo and even after them you had guys like Dino Baggio, Simone Inzaghi and Karel Poborský. It was a shocking amount of talent and it's a big what if of what they could have done if they'd stayed together. Nedved became the leader of a great Juventus team and he was behind Veron at Lazio. Nesta and Crespo were key pieces in Milan winning the CL in 2007. Stanković and Verón both played together in a very good Inter side. What could have been if they all just stayed together.
When i played championship manager 01/02 as a kid at united i built my team around Seba playing Scholes off Van nistlerooy and he was an animal every season lol
He was a very unique player. His range of passing was out of this world! If you remember before he moved to United Real Madrid was also trying to sign him.But the passport scandle pursueded them to look for another world class player at the time. And they sign Zizou. But what if Seba went to Laliga & Real Madrid? I believe he would have flourished to the maximum of his abilities. That Argentina Side at the 2002 WC was one of the most inform National Teams in history for two years prior to the tournament. But due to injuries(Seba was playing with an ankle injury & didn't recover well) & deep in form means a shocking exit from the tournament they were expected to win. Thanks for the Video!
Veron was easily one of the best of his generation, Riquelme had the edge on him but it is close , Argentina had some serious talent with Veron , Aimar, Riquelme, Gallardo, D’allesandro , some unreal talent.
United’s troubles of 2001/02 wasn’t the signing of Veron, it was the decision to let Jaap Stam leave that contributed to the season finish. Had he stayed just a season or two longer United would’ve seen the full fruits of his talents. No doubt.
Giggsy said he could do anything with the ball in training but his head went on match day. He was obviously a world class midfielder but he was competing with a prime Roy Keane and Paul Scholes at the time and was always gonna be compared to them at Utd
I remember when Utd signed him and I thought we would go on to dominate European football because he was just sensational in Italy just didn’t work in England
Didn't realise I wasn't subscribed. I heard he did things in training that was pure magic.. some players can look great in training but in front of 80,000 fans is different.
Awesome video, first time stumbling along your channel. I'd love to see a video about another Argentine midfielder that reminds me of Veron, his name is Jaun Sebastian Riquelme.
Remember channel 5 in uk every Thursday wee would get football from different league's dutch Argentinian league even mls .. and weekend was Italian football with James Richardson but I remember watching players like aimar ortega salas Juan pablo angel who had been or went on to be big players in Europe. But boca had riquelme I loved the way he played like he was strolling controlling everything at his own pace .. the player's river plate and boca produced late 90s earlier 2000s they would be there then gone then next season there would be another young star brought up through the ranks d allasandro cavinagi.. big Martin palermo guy was a goal machine at boca guys like a young teves Delgado .. but palermo went to Spain broke his leg didn't work out .. one of the most underrated for me was ortega prime ortega was different class found out he had a alcohol problem but while at river plate I remember thinking this guys different class but his time in Italy.. other clubs guys like forlan remember striker Sebastian rozental he was another player injuries ruined him but if you seen him play before his injury he was class Claudio Lopez.. and that's only the attacking players therer was some great defenders that went on to have great careers but all came through river plate or boca jr youth systems the amount of talent from the 90s to early 2000s world class players.. but riquelme I'm glad he got another chance at villareal to show how talented he was after his bad stint at Barcelona getting played out of position. . Those two teams gave the world so many gifted players and the Dutch league ajax psv feynoord also to many to mention.. but now kids just talk about Messi and CR7 in the 90s there were so many amazing players world class talents not just two guys head above the rest . And now var 🫣 your team scores and you don't even want to celebrate because your used to then 6min later find out the guys finger made him offside so goal chopped off 🙄 football has changed
Veron in Argentina is the man forever tainted for his performance against England in the wc 2002 the vast majority there believes he threw the game even they call him Lord Veron due to that game if you see the game he made absolutely ridiculous decisions.
That's really interesting. Argentina haven't had much of a cultural influence on the world beyond football. Not many people know much about it beyond cow meat and cowboys, the tango, Falklands/Malvinas, Borges, Evita or their weird Welsh enclaves. There's not much to add on the subjects of the above, at least on a daily basis, so no wonder football is such an all encompassing passion.
re: United. It seems Sir Alex was experimenting with a well-oiled midfield but he was probably right to. Difficult to imagine that team without Scholes (as with Giggs) though. I wonder if they could have all been more flexible about it. Veron was splendid at united, but perhaps the tactical change didn't really work
Ooh, there's a wee clip from Channel 4 in there, and I wish you'd have played the audio: Brackley and Wilkins when Mancini scores the winner: Brackley: "And that's a delightful dinked finish from MANCINI!" Wilkins: "You can't legislate for class." 👌
From the telegraph, It's one of the links in the description: www.telegraph.co.uk/football/2022/05/06/alex-ferguson-rant-manchester-united-audio-idiots/
I know you covered it pretty well, but he was too light weight for the English game, yes he made some great assists and scored some fantastic goals, but went missing too often in big domestic games, In Europe, he was like another player, but certainly couldn’t handle the pace or physicality domestically.
Veron didn’t flop at Man Utd he played different cos he had too cos of the stronger defensive teams ,he couldn’t do his usual play style cos of the level of teams that were in the prem then, but he had to play fergies way and for the team (no risky flashy stuff) but just look at Man Utd when veron was there they was successful and he played so how’s did he flop….granted he didn’t set the prem alight, but a lot of big foreign names don’t do aswel as they did in the leagues they come from, they underestimate how quick and competitive a physical the prem is at the time
Didn't go well for him in England, though he was often MU's best player in the CL games. He was very good in Italy, but poor in his last season at Lazio, where he was a shadow of his former self.
Let's be honest. Veron was a good guy to have in your team but we can't just throw the title of great on every odd bloke like it's meaningless. Very good attitude? Definitely. Reads the game well? Pretty much. Very good at much else? No. Let's be honest. He did a lot but not exceptionally good at any of them, and just a tad above average at most skill task.
Veron have the passing of Xavi + Pirlo combined Do you get that ? He can run play 1-2 very good short passes He also a master in the long passes just like Pirlo He’s passes actually if you watched him with lazio ,parma and later inter (which you didn’t a typical EPL head) range is much much bigger than Pirlo and just as accurate Not to mention his physical strength And long distance strikes and free kicks Veron was world class It’s unfortunate people like you is the reason why he’s in the debate. Of one of the best midfielders ever which he was
Imo Zizou had better movement and finishing than Veron by a fair distance...both great players but Zizou was one of the best to ever lace up a pair of boots
i was really excited when man utd bought veron but they totally wasted him - alex ferguson tried to squeeze him into the team but veron is the sort of player who can control games-you have to build the team around him- i do not understand why they bought him-ferguson was a great manager but he made a big mistake with veron-same with tevez and berbatev, both brilliant players but they were both used as second choice players to ronaldo and rooney- he seemed to buy them just to stop other teams buying them- and diego forlan , a brilliant player, was not given enough time-they sold him and he went on to great things-
Very true Very good post Although In forlan case he just struggled in very good era of strikers Forlan , berbatov , anelka , milito , Robbie keane kinda got the short end of the stick in that era (for the most part ), around that time Nistrlerooy was unbelievable in man United Every big team in Europe have very very talented strikers unlike today /last 15 years We had maybe 5 good strikers in the world The big 4 in England Arsenal got Henry bergkamp , van persie Man United got Ruud ,Rooney ,Ole gunner York and Andy Cole prior to that and shringham Chelsea got drogba ,crespo , Gudjohnsen I’m sure they also bought kezman and mutu in one point and both of them was extremely good in their previous clubs They even got Hasselbaink prior to that Liverpool was lacking possibly the only big team in Europe that was lacking but they also got the chance to buy anelka and they didn’t who was another unbelievable striker And they got Owen and Fowler prior to that Italy Milan shevshenko , inzaghi , tomasson ,gilardino Inter , vieri and Adriano (Recoba as super sub) Roma ;Montella Totti and cassano Juve ; del piero , trezeguet and zlatan who later went to inter No matter where you go all big teams have some of the best strikers Forlan and anelka got to shine later in their career so a milito when he was near his 30’s
Veron is far from the biggest flop in the Premier league's history he is not even in the top 50 on that list and not even on the 10 on the list of Man U flops
I disagree with the title of this video…a flop in the premier no…disappointing yes but had some very very good performances, the English game being so tight and fast paced didn’t suit his game, hence he found it difficult,he showed his true class for Man Utd in the Champions League without doubt, finding more room and space..back to being the Prems biggest flop..I simply say…D Maria 👌most definitely a bigger flop !

its way more professional now and players dont take any risks afraid of loosing their spot or being injured. theres no room for magic players anymore.

Juan Roman Riquelme, not Juan Sebastián
@@nachoalvarez7171 thanks
Arsenal didn't win 3-0 at Old Trafford it was 1-0. It was also the result that mathematically clinched the title.
That Middlesbrough match was my first game ever at Old Trafford and I remember this day that it was Veron to give the ball away!
just discovered your channel, and cant stop watching.... could you please do a video about john barnes' time as celtic manager?
Veron in Argentina is the man forever tainted for his performance against England in the wc 2002 the vast majority there believes he threw the game even they call him Lord Veron due to that game if you see the game he made absolutely ridiculous decisions.
that wc was awful for Argentina, but the reasons can NEVER be one man
That's really interesting.
What a video mate. Love this.
Very underrated channel
Serie A in the 80's , 90's and first decade of 2k was amazing sorry for the ones didnt live this days of magic!
Great video 🔥
Good content keep it up mate
Lubo video mate,do it
Him, scholes & xavi are proof that stats are absolute bollocks unless you are an out and out striker. Then it makes more sense
The pass BEFORE the assist 👍
Brilliant mate well done 👏🏻
re: United. It seems Sir Alex was experimenting with a well-oiled midfield but he was probably right to. Difficult to imagine that team without Scholes (as with Giggs) though. I wonder if they could have all been more flexible about it.
Veron was splendid at united, but perhaps the tactical change didn't really work
I loved this guy’s style of play, the modern game simply doesn’t allow for a player like this anymore.
Great as always 🎉
Why is the rolex second hand ticking in reverse❓
brilliantly done this, bravo
Have you done a video on Mo Johnston?
Ooh, there's a wee clip from Channel 4 in there, and I wish you'd have played the audio: Brackley and Wilkins when Mancini scores the winner:
Brackley: "And that's a delightful dinked finish from MANCINI!"
Wilkins: "You can't legislate for class." 👌
38:28 Arsenal only won 0-1 not "3 nil".
Is the Ferguson rant abot veron available on youtube?
From the telegraph, It's one of the links in the description: www.telegraph.co.uk/football/2022/05/06/alex-ferguson-rant-manchester-united-audio-idiots/
What a BALLER!!! LEGEND!!!
One of the best CAM on Champ Manager 01/02 though.
When Rangers managed to hold THAT Parma in Europe even my Celtic mates celebrated. When I saw that line-up again, I pinched myself.
McJell needs to watch this
That Parma team and kit though 🤩🤩
amazing video
McJelll, I summon you🫡🫡
BAAAALLLLDDDD😂😂😂
I know you covered it pretty well, but he was too light weight for the English game, yes he made some great assists and scored some fantastic goals, but went missing too often in big domestic games, In Europe, he was like another player, but certainly couldn’t handle the pace or physicality domestically.
Veron was class. The premier league just wasn't the place for him back then
WTF was that goal from C. Lopez :O
between 99-2001 he was the best player in the world hands down ...
Best passer of a ball I’ve ever seen
Great video but didn’t Arsenal win 1-0 with that infamous wiltord goal
make a vid about alvaro recoba
A fucking great video!
Veron was actually good at United. Just got an injury towards the end.
Riquelme ?
Let's be honest. Veron was a good guy to have in your team but we can't just throw the title of great on every odd bloke like it's meaningless. Very good attitude? Definitely. Reads the game well? Pretty much. Very good at much else? No. Let's be honest. He did a lot but not exceptionally good at any of them, and just a tad above average at most skill task.
He’s was an incredible passer of the ball, really skilful, and great dribbling out of tight spaces. Unreal touch at times.
Give you head a wobble
English fans are consistently the worst. Just because a player didn’t do well in England doesn’t mean he’s not a great player.
Veron have the passing of
Xavi + Pirlo combined
Do you get that ?
He can run play 1-2 very good short passes
He also a master in the long passes just like Pirlo
He’s passes actually if you watched him with lazio ,parma and later inter (which you didn’t a typical EPL head) range is much much bigger than Pirlo and just as accurate
Not to mention his physical strength
And long distance strikes and free kicks
Veron was world class
It’s unfortunate people like you is the reason why he’s in the debate. Of one of the best midfielders ever which he was
He was a donkey @@badsolja1
away goal in final is stupid, but actually in play offs it degrade the play quality imho
Just sad he didn’t work out at Man Utd. Sir Alex really tried.
Imo Zizou had better movement and finishing than Veron by a fair distance...both great players but Zizou was one of the best to ever lace up a pair of boots
i was really excited when man utd bought veron but they totally wasted him - alex ferguson tried to squeeze him into the team but veron is the sort of player who can control games-you have to build the team around him- i do not understand why they bought him-ferguson was a great manager but he made a big mistake with veron-same with tevez and berbatev, both brilliant players but they were both used as second choice players to ronaldo and rooney- he seemed to buy them just to stop other teams buying them- and diego forlan , a brilliant player, was not given enough time-they sold him and he went on to great things-
Very true
Very good post
Although In forlan case he just struggled in very good era of strikers
Forlan , berbatov , anelka , milito , Robbie keane kinda got the short end of the stick in that era (for the most part ), around that time
Nistrlerooy was unbelievable in man United
Every big team in Europe have very very talented strikers unlike today /last 15 years
We had maybe 5 good strikers in the world
The big 4 in England
Arsenal got Henry bergkamp , van persie
Man United got Ruud ,Rooney ,Ole gunner
York and Andy Cole prior to that and shringham
Chelsea got drogba ,crespo , Gudjohnsen
I’m sure they also bought kezman and mutu in one point and both of them was extremely good in their previous clubs
They even got Hasselbaink prior to that
Liverpool was lacking possibly the only big team in Europe that was lacking but they also got the chance to buy anelka and they didn’t who was another unbelievable striker
And they got Owen and Fowler prior to that
Italy
Milan shevshenko , inzaghi , tomasson ,gilardino
Inter , vieri and Adriano (Recoba as super sub)
Roma ;Montella Totti and cassano
Juve ; del piero , trezeguet and zlatan who later went to inter
No matter where you go all big teams have some of the best strikers
Forlan and anelka got to shine later in their career so a milito when he was near his 30’s
Please do del piero mate @flashbackfootball
This is a fuck.... great video!
World class player
ADN, ESTUDIANTES DE LA PLATA................................................... The End!!
Veron was too good for #ManUtd at that time, it was Utd that let veron down
Yeah premiership legend ask anyone 😉
Essien next!
Veron is far from the biggest flop in the Premier league's history he is not even in the top 50 on that list and not even on the 10 on the list of Man U flops
Good player sure , but compared to otamendi he didnt bring home the world cup
我唯一真正喜欢过的足球明星就是贝隆。
I disagree with the title of this video…a flop in the premier no…disappointing yes but had some very very good performances, the English game being so tight and fast paced didn’t suit his game, hence he found it difficult,he showed his true class for Man Utd in the Champions League without doubt, finding more room and space..back to being the Prems biggest flop..I simply say…D Maria 👌most definitely a bigger flop !
So basically in England he missed the peds that gave them there energy. Its no secret they were all doped up
